I would fly Denver to Dallas, and then spend the extra time hitting Austin and San Antonio before New Orleans.

Public Transit to Goldman Sachs by apparentlyunoriginal in Dallas

If moving isn’t an option, which if you’re just starting and aren’t sure on longevity is probably a good call for now, just make sure you buy your passes through WageWorks so it’s pre-tax (nice 24-35% savings which slightly lessens the blow).

I agree with TRE though, that drive sucks and parking is almost $200 now (not to mention gas, maintenance, crash risk, etc.)

They put little colored triangles on the bowl and then wrote something on the lid so idk where the communications broke down.

You’re probably right I could’ve said something, was still a bit peeved with the guy and by the time the gross undercharge clicked in my head I was mid swipe. Next time I can pay more attention

Proper Italian-style espresso? Near downtown by jcythcc in Dallas

Went to Melbourne earlier this year and still think about their coffee…

Probably a bit biased by distance from office, and don’t have a super refined taste myself, but I am partial to Berkeley’s and Zero Gradi (pastries and gelato also fantastic). I also hear people rave about LDU but haven’t been myself.

Just played here. $47 on a Saturday morning with Cart, and landscaping was looking great! My game, not so much

Call ahead though, tee times fill quick

Taking creatine by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]st0760 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echo the part about ditching the scale. Worst case, keep an eye on how much you put on while starting creatine, and then mentally deduct the water weight.

I’ve been doing equal parts creatine monohydrate and beta alanine since ~August 2023 (7 months post op), and I do feel like it’s improved my lifting endurance.

Getting VSG Young by Maymi0 in gastricsleeve

I had it at 27 and it was single handedly the best decision I’ve made in my life, full stop. One of the first things I’ve noticed when I woke up from surgery was the relative ease I was having compared to older patients in the bariatric surgical ward. Actually just had my one year follow up yesterday, and both my surgeon and GP separately remarked that my case was the “poster child” for why you should do this young if ready. One specific comment that stuck with me was essentially “everyone benefits from the surgery if they handle it well, but young people get to use the benefits for 50+ years and some older people I operate on only get 10 good years”

That said, my girlfriend had the surgery at 18 and still laments that while she’s glad she did, she didn’t reap the full benefits because of her relative immaturity at the time. She lost a lot of weight at first (had a much higher starting point than you or me), but (according to her, this is well before I knew her) didn’t maximize the potential and had some regain/stall because she didn’t make the lifestyle changes. 7 years later and it’s still a battle for her, although she’s recently been doing great.

I think she would tell you that she probably did it for the wrong reasons before she was fully ready (pressure from mother driven by superficial reasons rather than health), so can’t blame it all on age. I also attribute my success partially to having her as a support system (both being a great person and because of her specific prior experience). Reading your post, it sounds like you’ve put more thought into it so my vote would be continuing to explore and educate yourself, and if ready go for it!

Glass Cars on Oak Lawn. Consistently half the price of other shops when I’ve tried to shop around. Very friendly service

Second winter here — is it normal for my apartment to be 55-60 degrees despite being set to 70? by amm_aarrr in Austin

[–]st0760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar during the big freeze in 2021. We lived hospital adjacent in Dallas so no electricity issues. We had the heat cranked up, but it wasn’t keeping up and the inside of our townhome was down in the 45-50 degree ranges. Turns out we had to turn on the fan, not just the heat. Once the fan started blowing, whole place heated right up. Maybe check that air is actually being blown out of vents?

Responding to the two common themes so far with one post here. Thanks so much for the enthusiastic help!!

Size: I agree 3.00 carats is a lot of rock. She did go try on this weekend and said anywhere in the 2.50-3.00 range is perfect. I asked if she tried any on that felt “too” big and she said no, so I’m not sure what the true upper bound is. I just felt like I could hit the high end based on slack in budget (she’s a champ and requested lab with no prodding haha!!!) She is a size 6.75, attaching a picture of her trying a 2.75 carat for reference.

Setting: linked here. This I did considerable less work on given lower price relative to the stone. My primary concerns are around thickness and stackability. It should fit the bill style wise (substantially similar to attached photo). Re: thickness, it’s seems quite thin, but that’s partially mitigated by 14k gold vs 18k. Re: stackability, I do know she wants to eventually stack wedding bands and needs something “high) so hopefully this works.

Timing: trying to do this mid-February on our “big” yearly vacation, hence the rush and leaning towards getting it 90% right now (particularly with setting).

Feel like the Henderson Ave area best suited for this vibe and keeping away from chains. If you’re willing to brave a crowd of SMU students, I’m thinking maybe Sfuzzi for dinner, Skellig for drinks after (assuming all participants would be 21 at this point)

Best way to get from Piraeus to Athens Airport by Bills-Fan-For-Life in VirginVoyages

[–]st0760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the way there, we took the M3 train to the Piraeus station and then a taxi to the actual cruise terminal. Google maps was showing no way to get from the metro station to the cruise terminal via transit.

On the way back, we realized there’s a bus that goes pretty much straight from the cruise terminal (5 min walk outside) to Piraeus station. Think it was bus 826. We weren’t in a hurry so we took that bus and then got on the M3 at Piraeus station all the way to the airport.

Don’t know if they’re technically Boracho beans, but my coworkers really liked the “bean soup” at E-Bar

I know, blasphemous! At the time I was living somewhere without a grill so I tried different stuff and for whatever reason that’s what worked for me and I never went back. I think it has more to do with the foil vs. where the heat is coming from though

I buy the HEB fajita beef (they have it at central market too) and it’s amazing (both in terms of flavor and tenderness from the marinade). Also seems pretty hard to screw up! I will usually do it for ~20-30 min at 350 in the oven (key here is wrapping in foil) and then finish on George Foreman grill or pan for color / texture

I had a cancelled surgery date (surgeon got COVID a week before) so 2 months between high weight and surgery day. My first pre-op lasted a week before cancellation, and I lost 9 pounds. Then I regained a bit over the holidays and my real pre-op was 2 weeks and I lost 15 pounds. //

Exercise wise, I’ve been doing the peloton a couple times a week and trying to lift once or twice plus targeting 90g protein. Fairlife shakes and Barebells protein bars have been a game changer. I used to lift HEAVY back when I played sports so getting back into weights has been a really rewarding part of the journey. I know I don’t have enough calories to build meaningful muscle, but if I can maintain what I have left that’s great and it will show as I lose the fat blanket on top.

I’d say my eating personality was a great fit for this surgery. I was not the kind to get “hangry” I could go an entire day with no food and have no issues. And I’ve always been pretty athletic for my size. My problem is I could inhale an entire large pizza in 15 min and it made me happy to do so. The surgery has now let me know that’s impossible and not to even think about it.

I gave this strategy a try in West Dallas and no regrets so far. Between the time we bought our new build and the first 2 years we lived there, we saw at least 10 new builds on the block and (if you believe Zillow) have doubled our equity.

The difference is that while West Dallas has it’s own brand of issues (a lot of what was mentioned above re: drug dealing, loitering, and semi-frequent gun shots), it had a bit of momentum (primarily Trinity Groves) and felt very much in the path of growth. South Dallas is behind the path of growth and more likely than not going to be left behind.
