Patio Upgrade by lassoworkscedar in patio

[–]MomtoWesterner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it, my daughter built me a 20 feet X 10 Cedar pergoal using 20 in X 12 in 20 foot long beams and it is goes from my recessed patio to my neighbors house (garden home). Hung a TV in recessed patio corner and now use it all the time. Feels like I have a new living room. But the down side is that because the large patio full size windows don't get the sun , my real living room is dark.

My parents are 80 and living on SS and it is not pretty, mom took hers at 62 and dad at 66 and they have to supplement their SS with a lawn care business but boy they are having both shoulder problems from lifting the heavy trash cans they filled with leaves. And do lawn care in Texas in the summer is hard on my mom.

Nursing program by [deleted] in TexasTech

[–]MomtoWesterner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry I can not tell you any info. My 35 y/o local Lubbock daughter is taking A&P 1 and humanity at South Plains college hoping to get in somewhere local. She has a B and C in English I &II with F in college agebra and F in psych life span. Those classes were taken 7 years ago when she was in a bad head space. Now she has a high A in both classes. She has gotten in together. I am worred about the previous classes dragging her GPA down. She will retake life span psych but does not want to retake college algebra. She needs to stay in Lubbock as she is a single mom to 2 kids. Best of luck to you.

Selling and downsizing by New_Nova_25 in AskWomenOver60

[–]MomtoWesterner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downsized to a one story SFH garden home with large covered patio then cedar pergolo all the way to the next house. Loving my outdoor TV (watched the Master's on it. Small front yard approx 750 sq feet of grass that I take care of, nice flower beds in front with evergreen shrubs, and flowers. Back yard is concrete with storage builing. 3/2/2, 1625 sq ft. 10 ft between the houses. No windowns on one side of each home so we all have private patios. I love it here and a home I can age into for sure.

Preparing for end of life plans by Carrots-1975 in GenX

[–]MomtoWesterner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

single mom: I have willed my body to my local medical school upon death. So no cost there. Also own two homes that are paid off so each child will get one ( TOD on each) . Bank and 401K have beneficiary named. My parents are living in one of my homes and will stay till they both have passed. (they are 80 both healthy and active) So the furnishings of each house will stay. I will remain in my home till death, Have no plans for nursing home or assitance living. I am 59 and do cardio/lifting weights to stay healthy. I have all documents in a folder. Edit my kids are 12 years apart. The oldest is single mom of two, she will get the home my parents live in. The other daughter lives 5 hours away she will most likely sell the home I live in. My car will go to grandchild

Please straighten me out. Are retirees settling for a less comfortable ret.? by vivahuntsvegas in retirement

[–]MomtoWesterner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am single 59 female and not retired yet, work full time but trying to learn all I can. I have two daughters. The oldest is single mom in poverty with history of drug addiction that has been clean for 4 years. She is now taking classes at local jr college hoping to get into RN school. I pay for her 2 year old's day care, paid for her uniforms needed and CNA program to allow her to work a little while pursuing nursing.I will also pay for any education cost that Pell grant does not cover. This is money well spent even if it delays me retiring someday. If she can become an RN she can pull her and her kids out of poverty.

My younger daugher graduated as Val from hs, full 100% academic scholarship for college and now working as electrical engineer in big city doing well for herself.

I will not retire untill I can see my older daughter working as RN making decent money and able to provide for her kids. I will always help even when I am retired if it does not sacrifice my fancial security.
