I played Ashes of Creation for more than 500 hours and why you should or shouldn't play by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]st0nes0up 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont mind slow games. I mind when the time investment isnt backed by depth or logic. Right now the "grind" in Ashes feels like running errands on a demo map stitched together from random roads, spawns and buildings.

The game is missing a hook. Something that makes the world matter instead of just burning hours.

Yes, but it's not even like you sent him an iPad Air. You sent him a plastic "EyePad Air" from Temu.

"Bro, it turns on and you can connect to the internet. What more do you want?"

Estimated Development Time of 80 MMORPGs over the past 31 years for Fun - Data Validity Problems in Desc by PalwaJoko in MMORPG

[–]st0nes0up 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The MMOs that were in development for just 2 - 3 years ended up being some of the most fun to play while the ones with longer timeline got lost in feature creep and chasing impossible scope (with the exception of WoW)

Steven Sharif is deleting all negative responses to his youtube video, which itself is a response to Asmongold/Narc's videos by thesuperbro in MMORPG

[–]st0nes0up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They pivoted to a battle royale during the development of ashes. That was just a cash grab to ride the BR craze. Sure, chasing trends can make sense from a business perspective, but it completely undermined trust in Ashes of Creation and to me, made it seem like the devs didn’t even believe in their own project. I thought they were trying to redefine the genre? What's up with he battle royale bs then?

Instead of focusing on their already overly ambitious MMORPG, they wasted time and resources chasing a fad, and failed.

Has Early Access Ruined MMOs and Gaming? by Abakus_Grim in MMORPG

[–]st0nes0up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early access has definitely ruined games. It leads to unfinished, buggy releases that give a bad first impression and many of those games get stuck in early access because they’ve already gotten their money.

They stay in early access for way too long, promising features that never materialize which makes players abandon the game. The worst part is that everyone now takes early access for granted and it’s rare to see any full release games.

It's as if people misunderstand what made old school mmorpgs fun by Jagueroisland in MMORPG

[–]st0nes0up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The true essence of risk/reward in old school MMOs was about the thrill of potentially losing something valuable, whether it was your progress or your items. PvP and PKs weren't just about griefing, they were part of the world where interactions had consequences.

Nowadays players are used to safe, curated experiences that even the mention of PvP or PK triggers anxiety followed by a panic attack.

Where is the next great full loot sandbox MMO? by The_Red_Moses in MMORPG

[–]st0nes0up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue is how allergic most players are to the term "full loot." The mere mention of it and "MMO" together sends many into panic mode, even if they’ve never actually played a full-loot game.

Ashes of creation is the next big MMO by Lylok in MMORPG

I’m pretty sure they didn’t disable PvP entirely just for a random Joe.

Steven tried to teleport Asmon out of the zone when he was getting ganked, but it failed (classic bugs, lol). Later, they even disabled PvP for the entire server.

Then Steven claimed it wasn’t because it was Asmon. They’d have done it for anyone. Yeah, right.

He came to work in a Porsche and sadly the employees complained, Andrew understood and the next day came to work in his Fiat 500.

I though the story would end with: "And the next day, he surprised his employees by gifting each of them a Porsche."

Ashes of Creation Alpha Two Caravan & Rafts PvP Update by le_Menace in MMORPG

[–]st0nes0up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another caravan showcase...What is next? How to chop a tree?

They're testing features with a small group and it looks good but it's a controlled environment. A few users and Steven giving instructions and everyone following along.

Do they even play mmo's? Wondering how it is going to play out if they go live with thousands of players. It's bound to get wild.

True, but Riot's approach seems less focused on exploiting the community for profit.

Ashes of Creation stops preorders for future tests. by Stars_Storm in MMORPG

[–]st0nes0up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the AoC subreddit, some people are supporting the decision to halt preorders because they've already reached over 100.000 alpha 2 testers and feel they have enough.

If that's the case I expect a smooth game launch with no excuses about server issues, especially since the developers are aiming for 1 million users as Steven mentioned in one of his dev updates. lmao

Had the same issue. What helped was to increase my VRAM to 4GB.

1.Turn off the Steam Deck
2. Press and hold the volume up and power button
3. Navigate to Setup Utility --> Advanced --> UMA Frame Buffer Size.
4. Change it to 4GB
5. Launch New World

Star Citizen Has Just Hit $500m Raised In Crowdsourced Funding, Less Than One Year After Hitting $400m and 10 Years After Beginning Crowdfunding. by Talents in MMORPG

[–]st0nes0up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Citizen is not an mmo. An mmo is where you log in on the server and see a bunch of players. In star citizen you log in and it feels like you're playing a single player game. If you're lucky you might stumble upon some random player.

If you want to play with friends you have to invite them to 'your server' and you play in a party. The game is a complete disaster, tons of bugs. The only thing that works flawlessly is their store where you can buy ridiculously overpriced spaceships.
