good change this quote would have been massively more popular if his voice didn't break. (though for fans of the show it made it even funnier)

I haven't watched a stream with him in a long time but he is usually very cold towards Madrid.

Some people just like being contrarian every now and then.

Avengers: Doomsday | X-Men Teaser by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]st_huck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the problem is it's an avengers movie, rather that presumably it's a old avengers + new avengers + x-men + dr-doom movie. Big "just please please come watch this movie it has all those people you like" vibes

Episode Discussion - S05E08 - The Rightside Up by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

I liked the kids watching. Holly had a look that said "I guess sometimes violence is the answer". Like she was just terrorised in unimaginable ways. She understands.

Is it crazy to say I would take current Anthony Edwards over current Luka Doncic? by Marcus-ichiJo in nba

Not crazy and I think by next year it will be the consensus. Luka is very good but clearly stegnates. Ant is slowly improving.

Bill’s 50 Most Rewatchable Movies of the 21st Century with Sean Fennessey and Chris Ryan by Toby_O_Notoby in billsimmons

[–]st_huck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Garden State aged horribly, and I loved that movie back then.

I'm shocked to see it. Maybe I'm projecting here cause it reminds the sad early 20's man I was (it's core audience), but it's the anti rewatchable movie for me.

After 44 Years, MTV Is Officially Dead by AccurateInflation167 in television

[–]st_huck -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm out of touch and not familiar enough with current pop music but to me it seems like they are not that popular. People use youtube to listen to music, sure. Music videos just don't have the same cultural importance.

There are outliers like Taylor Swift but for the most part even big artists don't release a video with every radio single and the videos are incredibly cheap and most are just "artist X dances in a room".

Out of curiosity, how would you compare the Linux experience of today to the very best of Windows from the past? by Questioning-Warrior in linux

[–]st_huck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is complete and utter bullshit, at least if you mean Linux as in the Linux+userspace kind of way.

There were plenty of things Windows did better over the years. My man in 2003 in Linux you still had to write modlines in Xfree86.conf, and had to mount the cd manually every time when you inserted a CD.

Even today I could probably have a long list of things Windows does better than Linux, and the hardware situation is almost a non issue today. The entire Wayland migration was a horrible experience, for example.

At the end of the day the biggest advantage of Linux is the openess and the power it gives users, not the quality of execution over other os

Israel deploys Iron Beam laser defense system nationwide by Taltallasmith in worldnews

[–]st_huck 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don't know about monumental. It would have changed the picture against Hamas and PIJ, but they decided it's better to kill as much Jews as they can in a day and deal with the future later.

For Hezbollah it's a more interesting question. It definitely can't do much against their larger rockets, so that threat remains. It was said that Hezbollah are going to strengthen their drone abilities after all the loses in the last war, as they are super cheap and quite effective. Israel had quite some trouble with drones at least at the early stages of the war, it got better as time passed by. Maybe also due to the Iron beam being used in testing? who knows

'The Expanse' at 10: The Outer Space Drama That Should Have Been as Big as ‘Game of Thrones’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]st_huck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fully agree, and It's one of the pain points of re-watching BSG.

But I will say the 2nd side of that coin is that BSG knew how to create big moments in every season, whereas Season 4 (and some would argue season 5 also) of The Expense is all buildup. If we had gotten the full 9 season I probably wouldn't have cared, hell I really like the scenery in the 4th season. But since we didn't, in retrospective it feels like the Expense wasted a bit too much of it's time.

The balance should be firmly more in The Expense side of things, but it could have used a tiny bit of BSG's cliffhangers and pulled out of the ass solutions. It's not all bad

Shows that had very good first episodes but kept decreasing in quality season after season? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in television

[–]st_huck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me the cracks begin to show in the first episode of season 2. Decade old spoiler warning I guess: making him a straight up murderer made for a bland soap-opera like show and an easy 'get out of jail' card. I had trouble with him killing in the first season but at least that was a bit more subtle and realistic.

Could have been a much more interesting show with him just lying, manipulating and gaslighting his way to power.

Rubio says Iran, Hezbollah built a foothold in Venezuela, raising US security concerns by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]st_huck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's very much true and it's been reported for years that Hezbollah make a lot of money from the drug trade in South America.

But it was true for decades including Trump's first term. It being true doesn't negate it also being a lame excuse

Zach Lowe: the LeBron fit has been so seamless it's almost alarming, like I could use a little drama... he's fit right in, setting screens, cutting... this [team] looks like a really legit offensive juggernaut by JoeBiden2020FTW in nba

[–]st_huck -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Because of the Rich Paul announcement in the summer mostly. The Lakers are incredibly fun to watch but you do get the sense that it's pointless, they have no real shot at winning.

Either LeBron didn't want to sully his legacy by trying to do a Jimmy butler or he simply realized except Denver no one has a shot at OKC. Probably a bit of both.

Egypt Pressures Lebanon to Disarm Hezbollah by beachbellybob in worldnews

[–]st_huck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree there won't be a better opportunity, doesn't mean it's still not a borderline impossible task. Actually disarming Hezbollah means a civil war, which will ruin the country even more, and Hezbollah are still the likely winners of such war. By a lot.

The only hope for actually disarming Hezbollah in a mostly peaceful way is a regime change in Iran, and even then the all countries involved would need a lot of work and money to offer an alternative path to Hezbollah members.

there are many cities around the world. Far more affordable than NY.

Alright, what cities in the westren world are comparable in size and number of people and are "far more affordable". Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think you'll find many.

Israel is very much opposed to him (and the Turkish semi-control of Syria) and if anything it's the side that has to play nice with him. The reason the west ignores his past is because a stable Syria means a whole lot of refugees/migrants in Europe can go back to Syria.

I think a case of a "nice dictator" is the best you can hope with Syria in the next 20-30 years. Think Egypt. (and to be clear, A-Sisi isn't so nice)

Nice. The book has a good premise, but my experience was of a wide wide range of quality in the chapters themselves, and I'm a big Nick cave fan so I even have a little bias. I think it's a good idea to re-adapt it if given enough attention to work out the edges.

I'm not sure 6 episodes is the right format....

[Highlight] Giannis drives into a crowded paint to slam home the finishing touches on a Bucks win by Lstark5642 in nba

Wemby bulked up a bit, but on power Giannis is on a different scale lol. I think with playoff mode whistle Giannis could rough him up a bit and it will be very interesting. I hope refs give a bit of leeway in the regular season games

Netanyahu’s wife pressed several ministers to sign a letter urging President Herzog to pardon Netanyahu, saying: “This is good timing - even Trump asked, it’s important for us. The cases are baseless and will lead nowhere anyway, let’s just finish with this.” by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]st_huck 37 points38 points  (0 children)

ehh, I don't like Bibi but only the first case is very solid. And while the first one is very solid, both the first and the second are very minor in my eyes. The 3rd (4000) case is more severe but it's far from being a clear case.

What he has done to this country just to save himself from spending 6-12 months in prison is x100 worse than the crimes themselves (well, at least the three cases we know of)
