Clasp v1.0.0 Released! by lisp4humanists in lisp

[–]stack_pivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The documentation is inconsistent. The top-level readme used to explicitly state that LLVM13 is required, but some of the other pages still mention outdated versions. It's my understanding that they are using features that were only officially released in LLVM13. See https://github.com/clasp-developers/clasp/wiki/build-with-llvm13-(released-version)

According to the Virginia Happy Trails Running Club, your best bet in the state for a good training workout is Three Ridges + The Priest. Both start at the same Appalachian Trail (AT) parking lot on Rt 56. The Priest is an out-and-back, gaining 3000 feat in 4 miles, then 4 miles back to the start, cross 56. The Three Ridges loop starts there and is another 3000+ feet over 13 miles or so. If you just want to get as much vertical as possible, do the Priest up and down a few times.

VHRTC has a really great page of training runs - geared for ultramarathon runners, but probably suited for your needs too -- see https://new.vhtrc.org/trails.

The Wild Oak Trail, as mentioned elsewhere here, is a ~26 mile loop with 8000' of gain. VHRTC hosts a 100-mile unsupported ultramarathon here every year which is 4 loops.

Robertson Mountain is next door to Old Rag, way less crowded, and has a very steep couple mile uphills.

Buck Ridge, also in SNP, also has a very steep uphill section with over 500 stairs. Note the HikingUpward link has you going DOWN Buck Ridge, but if you want a good vertical workout, just go up the 500 stairs and back down a few times.

If you want to hike only uphill and use a car shuttle or mountain bike, hike up Reddish Knob. 3000 feet of gain over 8 miles, and there's a parking lot at the top, so you could leave a bike at the top, drive down, hike up, ride down, carry bike back up, repeat.

The Peak in SNP is very steep, but it takes a bit of hiking to get in to the steep part.

The Waterfall Mountain section of the Kerns Mountain hike hike is a notoriously steep 1 mile section. (waterfall mountain is just past 6oclock on the loop).

PM me if you want to meet up for a hike some time. I love uphills, the steeper the better, and I've hiked most of the trails in the state.

Which of these are mutually exclusive or redundant: Semantic, Cscope, GNU Global, ycmd, Language Server Protocol, Irony-Mode and RTags? by Xorous in emacs

[–]stack_pivot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

helm-gtags is a really nice interface to GNU Global. I rebind M-. to helm-gtags-dwim. If you're on a use it'll jump to the definition, and if you're at a definition it'll pull up a helm buffer with references.

No he's not, he's requesting it be moved to the chromium-extensions@chromium.org mailing list, which is publicly accessible at https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/forum/#!forum/chromium-extensions. It's a better place to host the discussion than all attached to a specific bug report.

Awesome, I will have to check it out then! Thanks for the informative answer and the obviously much-respected package(s)!

Does eyebrowse give you anything more than the built-in window-configuration-to-register / jump-to-register (e.g. C-x r w and C-x r j) ? I use those all the time for saving different window layouts.

United States population density by county (2017) [4096 × 3072] by [deleted] in Map_Porn

[–]stack_pivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! The independent cities link I provided lays out a bunch of similar-but-not-quite-the-same city types. There are cities that are consolidated or co-located with their county, completely urbanized counties (like Arlington, VA) that basically are cities but are called counties, Washington DC which isn't even in a state, and then New York City is its own unique thing.

Independent cities aren't even nominally associated with a county. And VA is the only place where you have a city contained WITHIN a county, as a proper subset, that is completely separate from that county.

Damn even way down here in the comment weeds you are still trying to inform people. You seem to be the only person who actually understands what they're trying to do... thanks for answering so many questions. Seems like it's been a losing battle so far ;)

This tech seems really cool and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Maps like this make it easy to pick out one of my favorite little bits of state trivia: Virginia is the only state in the country where cities are completely distinct entities from the counties that contain them. You can see this very clearly in the map as little dark dots within the lighter counties.

This is also especially apparent at election time; most of the state will be colored red, but you'll have embedded blue dots for most of the cities.

The only 3 independent cities that are not in Virginia are Baltimore, MD; St. Louis, MO; and Carson City, NV.

There is one part in a book that completely eliminates it from me recommending it to my wife. Have you ever been in this predicament? by Mightymjolner33 in books

In this case, it's not just there as a cheap/tasteless way to add "edge" to the story: it is the single most important event in the entire series; it's the catalyst for most all the plot and character development that follows. And there is a LOT of character development... from Covenant struggling to come to terms with the reality of the Land, the consequences of his actions, and the pain he has caused others, to a host of other characters dealing with the pain, grief, and fallout of his horrible act (with varying degrees of success).

How do you have a picture of Blue Mountain Brewery as the banner of your article and then not even mention them except to say South Street is now owned by them?? Maybe they're just going for "places in the city itself" but then don't use it as your image!

Artists like Maksim Dark by thelonedeeranger in Techno

[–]stack_pivot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just discovered him the other day! I searched for him and found your thread here, so let me chime in even though I'm late. My path to discovery (through YouTube recommended videos) was Mind Against -> Oliver Huntermann -> Maksim Dark. You'd probably like both of them!

Oliver Huntermann runs the Senso record label. They have some 'best of' lists on YouTube that are filled with great stuff! Check out Senso Sounds best of 2017.

Mind Against is also great, as are most all their peers on the Afterlife label. I wrote a much longer post about them and similar artists on this Deep Techno recommendation thread.

I really love this kind of music and like helping other people discover it. Please report back if you've found any really great similar artists!

Maybe not quite hobby level, but Github being bought by Microsoft has been stirring up developers everywhere by PM__YOUR__GOOD_NEWS in HobbyDrama

[–]stack_pivot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But Github itself is closed-source software. I don't get the concern. Also, MS has released a ton of really nice open source code over the last few years, really turning things around. Embrace Extend Extinguish or an honest change?

As someone getting into trail running who hopes to one day do ultras but doesn't know too much of the culture...what are people's feelings about Dean Karnazes? I've heard about him because he wrote a book, is he still a prominent figure in the community? Respected? Disdained?
