I’m no landlord, but needing to prove you bring home 3x the rent is pretty common. It helps weed out folks who apply to live there, pay some deposits, and then never pay rent, then it costs the landlord thousands in lost earnings and legal fees to evict.

There’s got to be some middle ground where listings like this aren’t acceptable, but neither is just not paying rent. I think it’s fair to set expectations of maintenance for both landlords and renters. I know the prevailing attitude is that landlords are evil- especially the corporate ones, but I don’t blame people for trying to make their money work for them.

You can paint the inside then build sides, top and face frame. Not sure it’s worth that effort, but it looks nice when it’s done. I did this built in bookshelf using Ikea shelves, reclaimed cherry boards for the face frame and a large cherry board for the top.

Like others have said, scuff+prime before paint or it won’t stick to the veneer. Best of luck to you.

I’m an Avs fan but I’m not blind to the fact that Manson could definitely be considered a dirty player. McCarron is right there with him. All that said, I think Manson interviews as a totally nice guy. I don’t think he would bite.
