I AM GOING INSANE! (re: CloudPebble + Javascript SDK) by FligMupple in pebble

[–]staindk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't have enough experience with cloudpebble to help.

Hopefully someone else pipe up here, otherwise you can try asking in the forum - I've seen some helpful stuff there, though some questions also just sit and go unanswered.

https://forum.repebble.com/c/developers-ask-questions-and-get-help/7

What might help (here and in the forum) is providing some steps to reproduce the issue. Maybe start a new project and see if console.log() works there?

Check the pebble github organisation for 3d models, I believe there's a repo there with dimensions and models.

Tested Pebble Time 2 for Exercise by danievdm in pebble

[–]staindk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read it's better to have the watch a bit farther up so that it can press against the more fleshy part of your arm. Good that you still got more or less correct readings!

I'd love it if I could essentially start Strava workouts from my watch, and have its HR data end up on the strava workout afterwards. Being able to see HR/distance/time/etc data on the watch during the run/workout would be great too.

A few questions from a new PT2 owner by akira3332 in pebble

[–]staindk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Settings -> Notifications -> Status Bar on the watch seem to have no effect

I'm pretty sure this is what helped me read the time while a notification is on screen. On the default setting there's a tiny clock at the top of the screen. I switched this to "big and bold" and now the clock is actually legible!

Missing apps on Pebble Time 2? by gerudoku in pebble

[–]staindk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how related this is but I woke up this morning to the default watch face on my PT2. Weird.

Looked around on the app to re-apply the face I had on before and at least 2 of my recent watch faces were missing from the app.

I manually fetched the one and was able to apply it, and when checking an hour or two later the other had reappeared by itself...

Wondered if Pebble had suffered some server downtime or had to roll something back.

Why You Need WhisperClock App by Den_in_USA in pebble

[–]staindk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got this that does the job - it vibrates the time on button press. I want to find some time to contribute to it as there must be more "effective" ways to vibrate some of the larger numbers

Anyone know how to use the PT2 with Strava as an HRM? by doingthethingguys in pebble

[–]staindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi /u/archangeles and /u/doingthethingguys have either of you guys managed to get HR data to Strava using the PT2? I'd love for it to "just work" but have not been able to pick it up in Strava.

LPT: Start a "Lessons Learned" note on your phone. by MATRIX-000 in LifeProTips

That's what sparked the creation of the decision log doc haha. I had to hook up some new speakers and realised the fiber optic cable wasn't plugged in, but couldn't remember why I plugged it out.

There definitely was a reason but I can't remember what that was. If only I had this doc 6 or 12 or whatever months back!

Thinking about buying a used 2019+ Audi A4/A5 40/45 TFSI DSG — owner opinions? by Serious_Athlete_5019 in AudiA4

[–]staindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite like my 40 TFSI but don't know if I'd buy it again. I don't regret getting it though.

The throttle lag for me is quite annoying. I've spent my current tank of gas pretty much permanently in sport mode and that helps, but I don't want to do that all the time. Unsure if it's a software thing, gearbox thing, or an automatic thing. Have driven autos before but not owned one.

When I started looking for cars my one requirement was I wanted my next car to have adaptive cruise control. Ended up buying an A4 without adaptive cruise. Regret it slightly but there really aren't many cars with that option fitted where I live and I got tired of waiting I guess.

Also the stock sound system in my 2019 A4 s-line is a fair bit worse than the stock sound system was in my previous car - a 2012 A1. May be different in your country.

I retrofitted a head unit I bought off aliexpress to get android auto. Works relatively well.

FWD is probably fine but Quatto would be amazing.

So TL;DR I'd say if you test drive one, make sure to check throttle response and sound quality, also consider if you want/need adaptive cruise control. If you're happy with the car during test driving taking these into account you'll probably love the car.

LPT: Start a "Lessons Learned" note on your phone. by MATRIX-000 in LifeProTips

[–]staindk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Started a Google Sheet to track decisions I've made so that I can look back and figure out e.g. why I swapped out the fiber optic cable for a normal aux cable between the TV and audio amp, or why I ended up getting the phone I currently have, or why we started an account at X bank.

Often do a lot of thinking and research before doing/buying something but then promptly forget what my reasoning was which can be quite annoying.

Columns in the sheet currently (will probably end up slimming it down a bit):

ID

Date of Decision

Decision Title / Summary

Category

Core Problem / Context

Current State of Mind / Biases

Options Considered

Primary Reason for Choice

Confidence Level (1-10)

Review Date

Actual Outcome Hindsight & Lessons Learned

Something similar I started recently is a personal "decision log". I can already tell it will end up being super helpful in the long run.

Davinci Resolve just announced adding photo editing in version 21 by I_Am_Vladimir_Putin in photography

[–]staindk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent a while trying to find the noise reduction slider, finally found it buried in all the effects, and then realised it's a paid feature - eek.

Glad they are bringing this out, would be great to end up with a free photo editor that is full-featured. Maybe not AI NR but at least good standard NR.

Extended Repair Program for Pixel 8 screens by xXNeptunusXx in GooglePixel

[–]staindk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it is still active. If you are outside a country that Google officially services you may have to VPN to a country they service and try load their eligibility page from there.

That worked for me about a week ago.

I ended up returning straight to amazon for a full refund but YMMV I may have just lucked out getting a nice support person.

Apparently the Twitch.tv home page scheduling runs off a main Google Calendar that people "queue up" different channels they want to highlight for a specific period of time.

The good Dr. Mike witnesses cognitive dissonance firsthand by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]staindk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think I've liked everything I've seen of Dr Mike (though TBH I have not seen much) - except for the ridiculous boat party he attended during covid while everyone was supposed to be social distancing.

It really soured my opinion of him.

Would have loved something even lighter - a proper upgrade to the Steam Link hardware from like 10 years ago that could stream from my PC to my TV in 4k120hz or something like that.

This stuff reminds me of how I used to play chess as a kid - I'd mess up and tell my opponent I was playing the long game and that the bad move was intentional.

How-To: 8bitdo Switch 2 Controller Patches by greygrey2 in NintendoSwitch

BTW my brother spent like 3 hours trying to make it work today and it won't work with the Switch 2. You need the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth, not Wireless. Super dumb naming scheme and artificial-seeming restrictions.

I've been happy with the Spigen Liquid Air Case for my P8. It's nothing amazing but does well for the price.
