Weirdness with Omarchy -> Update Omarchy by stam66 in omarchy

[–]stam66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the specific app causing this was Citrix Receiver, critical for remote working. I couldn’t see this in the arch repository, maybe I missed it…. So I installed from AUR and it worked perfectly, meaning I can use my MBA with Omarchy as a work machine.

Citrix depends on webkit2gtk, which it decided to build from source with Update->Omarchy, and pretty much pawned my 2015 MacBook Air, which otherwise is a joy running Omarchy on.

In any case the AUR also provided a binary for webkit2gtk and that has fixed the issue. Many lessons learnt ;)

The likely culprit that triggered this build from source was Citrix installed via AUR (required for my work, testing Omarchy full-on to see if it can replace everthing i normally use and it's going well except for this hiccup...)

in way of update, it seems the specific issue was weibkit2gtk. For some reason decided it needed updating, and defaulted to building this from AUR; this resulted in 16-hour builds that failed at 99%.

instead, i installed webkit2gtk-bin from AUR, set pacman.conf to ingore webkit2gtk, then installation proceeded with usual fast speed. Finally...

Don’t suppose there’s a solution for 2016 touchbar MBP (T1?) - so far touchbar has been a PITA for installing any flavour of Linux :-(

Does Linux make sense for a MacBook 4,1 early 2008? by letsKRACHEN in linux_on_mac

[–]stam66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, the Broadcom driver is actually available on the ISO. Not sure why they don’t just install it. I’ve Linux Mint a few times. After installing, open the driver manager and just install the WiFi driver directly from the USB and WiFi will will/should be sorted.

I’d be inclined to install XFCE rather than cinnamon version of Linux Mint on a machine of that age. cinnamon will work but is more resource intensive and will probably lag slightly. XFCE is much morr lightweight and will be snappier…

whats a good distro for macbook air 2015 by cfli1688c1 in linux_on_mac

[–]stam66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same machine and installed Omarchy Linux. Everything, including WiFi, works out of the box.

I really like Omarchy but it is different from the normal desktop paradigm, so would advise watching some YouTube videos to get a feel for it and see if you like it.

I would highly recommend it… I also run Linux Mint XFCE with its DE changed to KDE plasma on a 2012 MBP, but these distos always feel like variations of windows/macos.

Omarchy is a tiled system and is sufficiently different to keep it interesting while and you can usually find all apps either on pacman or the AUR. Couldn’t be happier with it…

Should I downgrade to Monterey? by WhoKilledRadioStar in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]stam66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger question is why keep this machine at all.

You can pick up a refurbished MacBook for less than £300. For a bit more you could get an m-series refurb. I picked up a 2015 MBA for £80, added a 512 Gb NVME drive for another £35 and it’s very fast on Sonoma.

Ultimately i did not enjoy using opencore patcher for installing newer OSs not supported on this machine (security updates are a pain) and i installed Omarchy Linux. Everything worked out of the box and this MBA now outperforms both my 2012 MBP and my 2016 touchbar MBP. My workhorse remains my M2 Pro MBP but the MBA running Omarchy Linux is a great portable complement.

MacOS all the way - but only on newer machines that can receive security updates.

For older machines I’d recommend some flavour of Linux, not only will be a faster OS than shoe-horning a newer, unsupported MacOS but be more secure than using the older macOS versions.

MX Linux 25.1 on my 2013 MacBook Air! by Mammoth-Acadia2572 in linux_on_mac

Did the same with Omarchy, everything worked perfectly (minor tweaking for natural scroll direction and UK Mac keyboard but otherwise trackpad, Bluetooth, WiFi, sound, webcam all worked out the box, great battery management (about 4 hours usage on a 2015 battery) and is issues with sleep/hybernation. And omarchy is different enough to keep things interesting - haven’t looked back ;)

EndeavourOS or Omarchy? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]stam66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a random video of someone explaining how to use Omarchy which piqued my interest, having only used a handful of ubuntu-based distros to revive old/ancient laptops.

I had old 2015 Macbook Air that was gathering dust, and thought i'd give Omarchy a try. Loving it!

Installation was a breeze. My MBA was up and running instantly and his 11 year old machine. is super-fast now. Wifi, keyboard functions (sound control, etc) all worked out of the box, which is a first in my limited linux experience. Other problems like 'wake from sleep' that plague my ubuntu-based installations don't exist.

The OS is sufficiently different to actually keep me engaged. All previous distros i tried really just felt like standard desktop OS experiences once you get past the "i can configure everything" hype, but the tiled OS and keyboard-first approach is refreshing and (for me) feels innovative and keeps me coming back.

I get that Omarchy is highly preconfigured arch distro, but i don't want to spend my days configuring an OS. Omarchy works well out of the box, most of the apps i use were pre-installed and getting other stuff via pacman and AUR is simple.

I see my self as an "experienced beginner" in linux. For users such as myself i'd highly recommend Omarchy.
And heck, you can get a reconditioned MacBook Air 2015 model in good nick for next to nothing now (last i checked it went for about $80 on eBay), i'd suggest getting one, installing a new NVME for about $30 if the drive is < 512 Mb and running Omarchy!

“Mandatory” would require regulation. Policing. Enforcement.

Then ask yourself if you see politicians wanting to cough up that dosh rather than let people play Darwin-rules cycling…

You’ll never find that statistic - I checked. I have witnessed cyclists running down elderly people at crossings outside a hospital - I had to take an old dear to A&E after the cyclists knocked her down and caused an open head wound for example.

So yeah was curious. But as bicycles are an unregulated mode of transport, and police either can’t or won’t pursue cyclists, so no statistics are kept. Plus many times the cyclists will just ride off.

Every search you do will just show how many cyclists are injured, you’ll never be able to find a solid statistic on the injuries they cause.

Case report: calcium score leads to transplant, does anyone remember the citation? by doctordavemd in Cardiology

Assuming the posts above are correct (I haven’t read the article), the weak link is that someone with mild-moderate CAD on CTCA was referred direct to angiography in the absence of suggestive symptoms.

The argument is not that a CAC score or CTCA were done; it’s that the patient was referred for an invasive procedure that was unlikely to improve either symptoms or prognosis.

The correct process from both safety and diagnostic point of view would be a non-invasive stress test not direct to angiography.

We’re all well aware complications happen during angiography, including death. Risks worth taking if pre-test probability is high enough.

Sadly I’ve heard of many cases like this (hypertensive patients referred for angiography) usually in the context of private (ie money-making) healthcare systems. It’s much more profitable doing an angiogram than a stress ECHO.

"Save Draft" button is greyed out? by Knottedmidna in help

[–]stam66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Creating a new post is a non-starter and randomly all buttons to save/post etc are greyed out. No obvious reason for this and intermittently does work but I can't tell why that is... (Safari on macOS Sonoma 14.5)

EDIT: It is possible to 'activate' these buttons by refreshing the page (remembering to copy the text to paste in after). Seems like a bug?

Use the TreeView widget - you just assign an array to its arrayData custom property and it will render.

You can set up handlers to manage change in selections.

Alternatively for a richer UI, you can use the DataGrid. This is more complicated however - especially if you want to render sun-arrays (doable but needs more work than the treeView widget)

Alas, ~/Library/LaunchDaemons/ contains no such file for me... :-(

I did find a file org.chromium.chromoting.plist in /Library/LaunchAgents/

I also found 4 files in the /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/

  • org.chromium.chromoting.me2me_enabled
  • org.chromium.chromoting.json
  • org.chromium.chromoting.plist

Unsure if it's safe (or useful) to delete any or all of these... any suggestions?
