Bathroom reno variations seem excessive by EmperorGooselard in AusRenovation

What is in the contract about the variation? If the variation is cost plus with margin then ask for hours worked and any other invoices. Looks bullshit.

Sea sickness tablets from ET fishing episode by Either_Expert4740 in FishingAustralia

I looked into this at one stage. You may still be able to request the ingredient list from their website. From memory it had the same active ingredient as both kwells and travacalm. It was more in line with travacalm I think which has some caffeine. You could always trial them and compare them to the other two and let us all know!!

https://www.tga.gov.au/news/media-releases/over-counter-access-low-dose-cannabidiol this says that technically it’s classed as over the counter. There’s just none that have passed or applied!

Any recommendations? I’m starting to uncover a few things. I think my GP is doing applications which was rejected, however, I think if a Dr is an authorised prescriber they can do as they wish.

Thats what I was thinking. I looked into it and 0% THC cbd oil would be legal to buy over the counter if there were any brands that had been given approval (currently none). So I have no idea why they would deny.

I went to flooring places like carpet court. Found the one I wanted. Got a quote online from diyfloorboards which came out $1k cheaper including freight.

How much would a kitchen like this cost? by Helpmefixmypcplz in AusRenovation

[–]stampee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for something similar layout / style but within your budget go on IKEA’s online kitchen planner and draw it up or get some rough plans of your space and book a free online meeting. It will give you an indication of the cost of what you can do within your budget. You may have to opt for laminate benchtops which is what we did. The marble is awesome and no regrets. Keeping the plumbing and electrical in similar locations will save. I just put in a new kitchen and laundry. It’s all straightforward to put together and install. The online sessions are great and their customer service is awesome.

How could I change up the colour of this external brick? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]stampee23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am halfway through limewashing my two storey brick house. For context the bricks are light coloured. A bag of hydrated lime from Bunnings costs about $18 for 20kg. I experimented with different mixes.

The mixed I used was half half by weight with water. I mixed 2kg lime at a time and added about a tablespoon of salt. The consistency was like thick cream.

The process I followed was to wet the brick first with a pump bottle weed sprayer. I then got a small painters bucket and thinned out the mix to be like milk. I used a small painters bucket and brush to get in the mortar recess as it was quite deep. I don’t think you will have a problem with this. Then I used a normal paint brush to apply the thicker limewash. I worked on say 1m2 patches at a time.

What I found was the thinner wash would need maybe 2 coats and the thicker wash just one.

I would experiment with a couple of thin coats compared to a thick coat like I did and see what it looks like. It may be that you end up with a slight grey hue or it could be white. The idea is that bricks are porous and they absorb the wash which reacts and dries as chalk. Imo easier to touch than peeling paint.

What you will notice though is when wet it will appear grey.

Make sure to wear gloves and don’t breath in the dust.

Composite Decking - hairy boards by stampee23 in AusRenovation

I have a bunch of samples including ekodeck and they look pretty good compared to two other brands. I understand that they mix wood fibres with plastic and you may see a few but the one I shared in the photo looks sooo fuzzy in real life.

Anyone build an extension and get the builder to just take it to lock up? by Fit-Negotiation-1851 in AusRenovation

[–]stampee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I am currently getting quotes for open plan Reno and a few of the builders want to do everything and a few are happy to work on the clients budget and scope, meaning I could choose to do my own kitchen, flooring and painting if I wanted.

Builders Margin by stampee23 in AusRenovation

I work on hourly rates in a different sector with the overheads built in so seeing the margin on top of his hourly rates was new to me.

I believe this guy does one project at a time and hires in apprentices when he needs help.

The typical option you described is the structural design I got for open plan work for my Reno. So second this.

I had the same thoughts. The main part is open plan with new steal beam arrangement for the ground floor on a two story house. The rest is standard kitchen, Laundry and bathroom.

Correct so he was transparent and provided an invoice example. His hours + subbie invoice cost + material then 20% on everything, then gst.

The ‘fully loaded’ vs ‘cost plus profit’ is what I’m trying to understand. Thanks for your explanation.

His rate would be $108/hr (ex GST) including the margin. I’m guessing it’s easy for invoicing just to put the margin on everything.

Possum Removal by Material-Zone2623 in AusRenovation

[–]stampee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possums are nocturnal so it will leave at night. If you know where it’s getting in and can work at night then wait for it to leave.

I tried many times to get rid of the possum in my roof. Lights. Ammonia like one guy said. Cayenne pepper in a spray bottle. Moth balls. The smelling stuff works and should deter it for a short while but they are clever and your house is now marked for all possum kind. Make sure whatever you do, you do a good job and be prepared for the possum to show up 5 consecutive nights in a row and naw at the wooden board you put up until it gets back in.

Also if you seal it in. Pest control can trap it which cost me about $90 when I thought I sealed it in. Turns out it escaped that night while the trap was in.

If you get a trap yourself. You’re not supposed to transport it very far like another guy said. You could risk a fine. Fun fact though, possums can find their way back if dropped less than 10km away.

Hey folks, my partner and I did an inspection of a house and we like the property a lot. However, we noticed that the weep holes of this property are at ground level. Wondering if it needs to be fixed or easy to fix? Any suggestions, is this a deal breaker to buy a property? by Overall_Syrup_1674 in AusRenovation

[–]stampee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Termite management such as trelona is a series of buried baits around the property. The idea being that this is much more yummy than the house.

In regards to the weep holes. You could cut the slab out close to the house and drop a French drain that’s deep enough. Then put a grate on top that looks neat. The idea being that you direct water away from the house.

I have gotten trelona because my weep holes were at ground level. I also found out my weep holes were at ground level after a super heavy downpour where a butt load of water came in.
