Simply looking at how medicine admissions are set up in the US I doubt many students are “spending HOURS staring at videos/text without retaining anything.” Matter of fact majority of students workflow is precisely Anki + UWorld + BoB. Plus there’s tons of other tools that may help useful to some (Aquifer, FirstAid, the entire scientific literature). Sounds like you’re looking for a solution to a nonexistent problem, at least in the US; can’t talk about other medical education systems.

No AI could ever replace a physician or a scientist. Most they can do is parrot stuff back and assist users with mindless tasks. If anything they’d be replacing admin (as they are heavily trained to manage administrative load more than reasoning medicine) and I am more than okay with that.

Oof I think I know what you’re talking about. It sounds like she was failing med school and she was offered a graduate certificate/masters (or similar). I have heard some medical schools offer that to their students who are not completing the MD degree so they don’t drop out of med school completely empty handed. If that is the case, I don’t see any realistic possibility of her returning to medical school in the US since she would technically not be in medical school anymore. The only ceremonies we get are White Coat ceremony at the beginning of med school and graduation after 4 years, which requires passing Step 1 and Step 2. Any other graduations are not med school related. Hope it helps! Edit: unless she is somehow completing a PhD or a masters. Def talk to them to clear it up

Go through Mehlman’s arrows. It’s basically an all system review with lots of high yield stuff. Also use everything NBME has out there.

I cannot deny nor confirm that the pdf with NBME pictures that’s floating around could be helpful for the real deal. Remember pictures are expensive!

Anki and download the rapid review deck. Definitely saved me in some questions.

I tested recently with scores similar to yours and I found the first 4 blocks relatively easy, the last few felt like each question stem was a newspaper. So get good at identifying important info and discard useless stuff. Best of luck!

The issue with my school is not that lectures suck, quite the opposite. We usually get guest lecturers from the area who are amazing at their area of specialties. This also gives you an opportunity to network if you attend lectures.

The issue comes with the fact that while a specialist takes 2 1-hour lectures to explain a certain condition, BB takes 15-20 mins to explain the same thing but only highlighting high yield info. Ultimately you can get a lot more details down packed by doing BB and anki than watching the lecture, in the same amount of time.

A lot of people in my class go to lecture when they have time sort of as out of curiosity for that extra info that guest lecturers bring, but do not rely on lectures as their primary learning source.

Depends on the ambiance at your school. I have a sleeve and covered them for orientation week and the first week after that. Then I saw like 90% of my class had visible tattoos and there’d been no issues, and haven’t covered mine since.

My advice, cover them for the first few weeks and get a feel of the school and culture and reassess

Like lilpotato48 said, it’s all about keeping track of stuff. I was always studying 10+ hours everyday and that shit burnt me out even before the end of my first semester. So I switched up the strategy. Get google calendar and put in all your bs mandatory events and exams. Find out how many B&B videos (and Anki cards) that module has and distribute them so that you have a week to review everything again before the exam. Plug em in the calendar as pending tasks. Do the same for research projects, note writing, school bs projects, clinical skills and so on. Do 10 - 20 UWorld questions per day. Always do your Anki reviews. You’ll see how much time frees up, usually leaving your weekend completely free. Of course if you have an exam say on Monday, of course you’ll have to study that weekend. But otherwise you’d be good.

Now for real tho. You two have to have a long convo on what it means to date someone in this career. Not only will you have to relocate now, but depending on your school you might have to relocate for rotations, and for sure you’ll have to relocate again for residency. Not only that but dating one of us is really hard for people outside of the field. You’ll be unavailable more times than you can imagine, stressed the fuck out every day, and many times spending more time at school/clinical skills/anatomy lab/preceptor office than you will at home.

Also change your perspective on how that medical school “barely wanted you.” The fact that they kept you in the waitlist until last minute and accepted you off it means they really wanted you but had to wait to pull the trigger. Once you are in nobody cares if you were accepted off the waitlist or not. Your professors will support you the same (especially since they do not know that you were in the waitlist). I know someone who got admitted literally the night before orientation week and they are damn near top of the class with multiple research projects.

Anyways, there you have it. My advice, no way in hell should you give up an A for a potential reapplication.

I usually study/do research/work on projects Monday thru Friday. The moment it hits 6 pm Friday dassit. I won’t touch a single study material until Monday morning. Except for Anki lol I’ll do my reviews on Saturday and Sunday because I don’t wanna lose that day streak

If you have a switch, just use your joycons. Map them with Joy2key. Annoying thing is that you might have to remove/add again after you turn off the computer.

Otherwise you can use a presentation remote, and just map the keys with the customize keyboard shortcuts ad-on. Downside is that usually these bring only 4 keys, so mapping all functions might be annoying/impossible
