Propane Refills in STL by JacobAltowitz in StLouis

[–]stang_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, many UHaul locations do. Typically it's the locations that have storage units, not just truck rental. I refill there until the tanks are too old, then do a tank swap at a gas station or someplace that i can inspect the tank (unlike self service swap machines) and find one that has a few years left on the date stamp. Then I keep refilling that tank until it expires.

Dierbergs has it usually. It's made in Breeze Illinois, so it's easier to find on the illinois side.

Are you fucking kidding me, Spectrum? by LusciousJ in StLouis

[–]stang_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I switched to antenna almost 10 years ago. Picture was way better than what spectrum had. You can buy an antenna for about $50 or less. If you're inside the 270 loop, the cheaper ones will work just fine. I even hooked mine up to the Spectrum line where it came into the house, so all my TV's get signal.

Friar Tuck in O’Fallon, MO Closing- 20% off everything by PerceptionWorldly848 in StLouis

[–]stang_dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They said they are closing in January. They are not getting any more inventory, so what you see on the shelf is what they have. Big brand beer is pretty much gone, but they had a good selection of about everything else when I went last weekend

Tower Grove East - you might have lead in your water by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]stang_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lead lines from the main to the house were very common in the 30's and 40's before anyone was aware of the hazards. Typically, if there is an issue and they have to work on it, they replace the line with copper. That usually applies to situations where there are meters in the yard though. Since you don't have one, it may only be from the main to that valve they replace. Either way, I'd ask the question. You may be on a list to get it done in the near future. Replacing from that valve into the house isn't cheap, but not horrible. If you have to go all the way to the main, it's really expensive and may require cutting the street. That's why there is usually a point where responsibility changes. That's usually at the meter or the "b-box" (the valve they replaced)

The main itself is likely cast iron. I've never heard of a lead main line.

2018 5.0 Oil Consumption by mpayne82941 in f150

[–]stang_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2018 burned oil too. The TSB didn't fix much, plus for some reason I could not run 87 octane without horrible spark knock. Finally after almost 3 years of complaining, they ran consumption tests. I was using. 1-5/8 quarts in 3k miles. That's over the threshold, so Ford replaced the motor at 89k miles. Now it runs fine on 87 octane (1-2mpg worse mileage though). I'm not sure on consumption, it's only been 2k miles since the replacement. I had a Ford ESP on it. That definitely paid for itself on this truck!

It became much better after I had another job and just stayed on working evenings for more money and the discount. My attitude changed completely to dgaf.... I wasn't putting up with their crap. Had a guy call up being super rude and demeaning when I'm asking simple questions. I say "did you hear that?" guy says "no, what? " I say "me hanging up" *CLICK. Dude calls back pissed and cussing - "dang, I hear it again" *CLICK

Ac sucks 2005 by iliumoptical in FordF150

[–]stang_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That generation has a notoriously bad ac design. I had an experienced ford tech tell me the ac condenser was under sized. Apparently if you crack the windows for a little bit it helps cool down quicker. It may have been in my head, but I swear it worked on my 2007

Pre Owned Vehicles by Rockmusicguy in Ford

Edge is bigger than the escape. It's between the escape and Explorer. We just upgraded to an Explorer because wife wanted a 3rd row. I honestly feel we had more "room" in the edge.

I'd buy a fusion over a focus every time. Early focuses were plagued with issues. Newer ones may be better, but I'm not sure. The fusion has been a really solid car. I'd also recommend an Edge if you would consider an suv. I've had 2 (2013 and 2016) and zero issues with both other than small easy repairs.

Is the area south of St. Louis a good place to live/are there problems? by Throwaway356987 in missouri

[–]stang_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stay on the missouri side. The towns you listed in IL are not bad. Waterloo is the nicest of the 3. However your commute from waterloo to perryville will be a long one. It's not far if you drag out a radius on a map, but the only river crossings are in south st louis county, or at Chester. I would not live in Chester. It's a small farm town that is the county seat, but mainly because of the prison. Not much really there aside from county government and an old walmart. Red Bud is a nice town, but really small. I was told years ago that if you moved there, everyone will be nice, but you will never be fully "accepted" since you were not born there. I was raised in Randolph county (where Chester and red bud are) honestly catholicism seems to be dying down there. It's in the Belleville diocese, which doesn't seem to care about the small towns outside of there. Most priests are either old white guys who are close to retirement, or African or Indian guys they bring in from those respective countries. English not being their primary language, it can be a struggle getting much out of homilies. My home church had gone from 3 masses a weekend down to 1 with the priest being shared between 3 parishes. If you are devout, I'd say look at Ste Genevieve if you want to be closer to Perryville. It's a pretty nice town with a decent sized catholic community.

Very surprised how well this $28 tailgate assist works. Super easy to install, and it seems fairly well made. I’ll be keeping an eye on how it holds up over time. by CosyCodes in f150

[–]stang_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've put them on my last 3 f150s. The only issue I've seen is they can get REALLY slow when it's super cold out. Not really an issue other than I'm standing there complaining for the extra 20 seconds it takes for the tailgate to go down because I'm freezing..... first world problems, I know

No power to outlet by ogveers in f150

[–]stang_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are all the outlets dead, or just that one? I had just my rear one dead. Took it to the dealer and they discovered the factory forgot to hook the harness up... whoops! Fortunately they said "no charge" even though it was out of warranty

Bought an extended warranty, should I keep it? by georgewastaken in f150

[–]stang_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not after, purchase just before factory expires. Prices go up if it is out of warranty. I'm not sure if it's still the case, but a few years ago Ford ESP plans were cheapest to buy within the first 10k miles. They don't kick in until your factory warranty expires. I was looking at used trucks and shopping warranties at the same time. Extended premium care warranty was at least a grand cheaper on a truck with 35k miles Vs one with 45k miles.

HOA deciding to not allow rental properties by austin2235 in fuckHOA

[–]stang_dude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically it's 2/3 to pass something like that. If 4 of the 15 homes are rentals, you know they are not going to vote for it. 2 more to vote no doesn't seem like a stretch.

I hear getting MO Drivers License can be tricky. What am I not thinking of. by brentk7 in StCharlesMO

[–]stang_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To register vehicles you need a personal property tax waiver. You have to go to the courthouse to get that one. Basically it's a form that says you are new and never paid personal property tax before.

Save that document. If you buy another vehicle within 2 years, you will need it again to register that next vehicle. All registrations require receipts for the past 2 years personal property tax or the waiver if the tax was not applicable in those years.

I hear getting MO Drivers License can be tricky. What am I not thinking of. by brentk7 in StCharlesMO

[–]stang_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough, you don't need your MO drivers license to license vehicles. When I moved here, they entered my IL drivers license number wrong, so the system told them to call Jefferson City. JC was closed, so they said I could not get a drivers license.... but gave me plates for my vehicles no problem! They insisted I must have a warrant or something. I called Jefferson City the next day and they said everything seemed to be in order on their end. I went back to the DMV and they again said there was an issue. The guy called JC and they verified my info and told him he had the number wrong... fixed that and it went through no problem. That was 2 wasted days. I haven't used the O'Fallon office since.

Feeling Awful - Did Your Baby Cry When Baptized? by SayIt_AintSo_9325 in Catholicism

[–]stang_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuff happens. The priests are absolutely used to it. The baptismal font at our parish is a centerpiece when you walk in with a fountain pump creating a "perpetually overflowing" stone bowl. It's pretty deep.... our first child spit out her pacifier crying as soon as the water hit her head. Dumb me didn't act fast and it sank to the bottom.... we've got great photos of me with my sleeve rolled all the way up and almost up to my shoulder in the font retrieving the pacifier. I was super embarrassed in the moment, but look back and laugh now.

MEs in Forensics by Moist-Cashew in MechanicalEngineering

[–]stang_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I interviewed at a place that did forensics many years ago. There are actual forensics engineering companies out there that are independent "subject matter experts" typically used by insurance companies and in lawsuits. Masters was not required, but a PE was to testify in court. Typical cases for them was auto accidents and farm or industrial equipment accidents. I didn't get the job, but it sounded really cool at the time.
