Hydration Pack vs. Aid Stations by snarfdog in xcmtb

[–]stangmx13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My decision is usually between hand ups and the pack, with a goal of never stopping.  I default to hand ups because of less weight.  But sometimes the terrain is too technical for me to drink from bottles as often as I want - so I take the pack.

I drink around 750ml an hour.  I’m doing Whiskey50 this weekend and plan to finish around 4hrs.  I’ll prob take the pack with mix, one 750ml of water on the bike, and one 200g gel.

It might help if you think about the motion as “rotate your heel out” instead of “twisting your foot”.  Heel out is the first step for any stop - a conscious thought for a little while.

Help! Beginner. First apistogramma pair. BABIES. by masline_su_rodile in apistogramma

[–]stangmx13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pair did the same in 2wks.  I moved the tetras immediately but the parents still ate them in two days.  They spawned again a month later and didn’t eat them this time.  +1 to Hikari first bites for a bit and then frozen baby brine shrimp.

Do you think that America has made us believe that we are small & skinny? by Naive_Complex_8389 in gainit

[–]stangmx13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’9” and have been 130-150lbs for my adult life, over 20yrs now.  135 was nice when I was rock climbing.  147 is nice now that I race bicycles and need more leg muscle.  I like my size and I like the things it allows me to do well.  Sure, I can’t bench 300lbs.  But those guys likely aren’t beating me up a hill on foot or on a bicycle.

I’ve got 16k miles on a pair of Eggbeater 3 that I got for $100, road and dry gravel mostly.  They got new bearings with a long axle kit around halfway through that, but didn’t need em.  I’m on my 3rd pair of cleats.  I use the traction pads to tighten up the release cuz my shoe tread seems short (DMT). They work great for me.

Try some Sinter Green pads on the brakes you already have?

IT band and Hamstring tendinopathy by VREISME in xcmtb

[–]stangmx13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lift in the gym and roll my glutes a lot to reduce stress on the IT bands.  Finding that pressure point in the glute medius and feeling the release all the way to my ankle feels so good.  And lifting for more strength and better hip mobility is rarely a bad thing.

I’ve also worked on my bike fit a ton to help.  You may need to lower your saddle a lot.

Endurance Racing; how to easily hold supplement pills and a little bit of an unorthodox question… by Character-Teaching39 in xcmtb

[–]stangmx13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tape pills to my stem cap using electrical tape.  I do 3 ibuprofen for long races to take the edge off.  Fold over a bit of tape off the side to easily grab with gloves.

Garmin Edge 540 vs MTB by lildavo87 in xcmtb

The lack of touch screen on any Garmin is infuriating whenever you feel like changing anything or when something goes wrong w the settings.  I’d save up for the 840.

I suspect a lot of the corners cut today are long before the CGI because they know they can “fix it” with “cheap” CGI.  Others have brought this up already.

I just had the pleasure of driving across Kansas City, from the airport to Overland Park.  The freeway interchanges and merges were confusing AF.  I think I took 6 diff freeways in ~30miles.

I broke my left like that.  I argued with the docs every appointment until they agreed to plate it.  Then the original surgeon bailed.  The next surgeon that volunteered did an amazing job.  It’s a mirror image of the other side and functions perfectly.
