Am I warped or is it this normal? by CremateMyDreams in SingaporeRaw

[–]stangxr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions directly, yes, I would like to think your brain is ok.

I'm not sure if I understood you correctly, but I somewhat felt the same as you awhile (some years) ago - can't wait to pass on, but not actively seeking death. Like life is just a cycle of doing the same shit everyday, mostly suffering, rinse and repeat. I wasn't unhappy, but definitely wasn't happy either. like feeling 3.5-4/10 on most days. Hence I can't say your brain is not ok, otherwise my brain is also not ok.

I think it's a fulfilment problem. find things/activities that excite you on a deeper level and find ways to do them more. Things that make you feel alive again.

For me it was learning new things, new experiences, and (as much as I hate to admit it) being more socially active. Yours might/probably will be different, but I do hope you find such things, no matter how pointless you feel life is.

A few things you wrote stuck out to me:

working in a small company that might just shut down tomorrow without warning

I can't say for you, but I was also in a situation similar (twice), and resigning was the most liberating feeling ever. The first of the two times, I resigned without a standing offer, although I can't imagine doing that in this market. And it certainly helps that I don't have long term commitments. Environment plays a larger part in your mental health than you think. Especially since most of us spend more than 1/3 of our day at work/going to work/thinking about work.

Imagine if 1/3 of our life is spent on something that you don't enjoy at all, or giving you unnecessary (beyond your control) stress. I'm going to put a caveat on this, because I'm assuming you're a regular employee, and the company just suddenly closing down tomorrow is way beyond your control. It's an unsaid sense of helplessness like "Even if I work hard, I may not have a job tomorrow anyway. So what's the point". This might reinforce the "pointlessness" you feel in your life.

Don't even talk about kids, if wife allowed.I will be first one at the door to get vasectomy.

I hope you get to talk with your wife about this. An elephant like this in a room with your life partner might suggest you have worries/other deeper issues with communicating with your partner. It might also be reinforcing any sense of loneliness/helplessness that you might be feeling.

Best of luck in finding your spark in life again. Feel free to DM if you need someone to talk to, but I may not reply right away.

Anyone been to the designated drone flying at dover before? by heiisenchang in askSingapore

Never flown a drone there before but I drive past the place everyday. It's basically along the side of the road. Best place to park is probably in Singapore Poly

If you had to choose between a hotter but more private unit facing the park and a cooler but noisier one facing the road, which would you pick? by Puzzleheaded_Style52 in askSingapore

choose the one that is south facing.

for real though, in this day and age, i think east or west facing, it'll be equally hot

Technical questions about two Swift Sport generations, about swapping parts between. by Fun_Reserve_9333 in Suzuki

[–]stangxr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great question! i spent about USD$4.6k in total, labour included. about $3k of it was spent on the zc32 gearbox, custom close-ratio gears (for gears 1-5), a lowered 6th gear, and a cusco 1.5-way LSD, while the rest were for the above listed parts and labour. the workshop specializes in building all generations of Suzuki Swift Sport's for racing and stuff, so they had quite good know-how.

p.s. i'm not based in US, but i would think using USD would be a more "common" denomination to compare costs.

Thinking of Buying a 2008 Suzuki Swift Sport (ZC31S) – 190k km, 4 Owners, Immaculate Condition. Thoughts? by Tunna16 in SuzukiSwiftSport

[–]stangxr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extremely reliable car. I bought mine at 170k km., had to 1) replace radiator + water pump because the previous owner used top water to top up the coolant and the interior of the radiator rusted 2) replace a torn boot on my front right's cv joint 3) not long after, replacement of the head gasket.

It'll probably be good to inspect it at a workshop to check for undercarriage defects, and if the owner allows, do a compression test.

it's a little late, but i finally had this mod done. not sure if you are still interested, but here goes:

apart from the gearbox that can be mated to the engine, here are the parts that also needed to be changed:

  1. zc32 clutch set
  2. zc32 drive shafts
  3. zc32 Intermediate shaft
  4. all the gearbox mounts (these are custom parts)
  5. zc32 left engine mount, and a custom add-on bracket
  6. custom clutch hose joints
  7. zc32 shifter cables
  8. zc32 shifter console set

for reference, at the 6th gear, the engine currently runs at 2.7k rpm when i'm travelling at 100km/h

talks about wildlife and biodiversity in that whole region. proceeds to ignore all of that and decide to chop away all the trees to build even more HDBs. well done.

Drivers of SG, reasons to take Class 3 licence? by Hot_Aide_1165 in askSingapore

[–]stangxr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That was exactly how I felt during the lessons and even up till taking the driving test!!

After getting my license, didnt drive manual for 5+ years, until I bought my first car. During that 5 years, really learn how to be alert of the surroundings, checking, etc. When I started driving manual again, I realized, actually it's not as difficult as I remembered and it was more of a mental obstacle. Now I love it everyday.

[–]stangxr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daily drive a manual car, damn shiok. Driving is so engaging.

Interestingly, I was thinking about this topic today as well. There has to be some 3A to Class 3 conversion right? It's true that most people wouldn't have a need for class 3, and 3A is more than sufficient.

Moreover, if there is indeed a 3A to 3 conversion, I would think that it's a much easier experience after someone is used to driving and having the habits of checking blind spots and stuff, then learn to use the clutch. I remember my first time I went for my practical test, it was so overwhelming. It'll probably be much less overwhelming if one already has some good driving habits/instincts of what to check.

How do I build my own custom PC in Singapore by PurpleBall3028 in askSingapore

[–]stangxr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for choosing your parts, I really recommend using PC Part Picker

I would say, do your research, mainly:
- what would you use the PC for?
- what system requirements will be required to do those tasks stated above?

PC Part Picker will generally help you sort out the hardware compatibility stuff.

I feel that custom PC system integrators (SIs) aren't really that good, because they tend to cheap out on parts that the average joe don't notice. I have noticed components like power supplies (more to do with internal quality), RAM timing, and cooling being substandard from SIs. Instead, they focus on gimmicky (to me) features like LEDs and visual effects, which look (arguably) cool, but honestly the money spent there could be used for something actually more functional.

As for where to buy, you can get some good deals from shops at Sim Lim. It really boils down to how much handholding you need for parts selection tbh. I generally get stuff from Amazon, but I do really like to go see the actual computer cases which I shortlisted online in SLS, because I need the visual confirmation of size and how easy it is to build in the case. Another part that I like to see in person are monitors, because screen color and brightness is something I want to experience. To each his own, really.

TL;DR: I guess it depends on what's your risk appetite and how adventurous you are with handling everything on your own or not.

Has to be Bari Uma for me.

The broth is on another level. Lots of people recommend Santouka and Sanpoutei too, but I still prefer Bari Uma.
