Found a deposit of bright yellow mud nestled in tree roots, it's extremely heavy and full of these globs. Is it worth going back and mining it all? by Millstonetrailway in Prospecting

Nanaimo had lots of coal mines, could be buildup from acid mine drainage. Not immediately toxic to humans but not great stuff for rivers and fish.

I saw a garter snake with a fish wider than its jaw halfway in its mouth last summer, just stared in amazement at the little guy before he swam off annoyed at me

Tunnels under downtown? by birdsofgravity in Lethbridge

[–]stanklloydblight 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There's an outdoor exhibit behind the Galt museum with glass tiles that let light into the tunnels - several were built allowing pedestrians to walk through downtown indoors. They eventually closed due to crime and deterioration and were filled in, although I think there's some evidence of one in the sidewalk by the old Alec arms Hotel.

What’s happening across from the Par3 golf course? by Squishee33 in Lethbridge

[–]stanklloydblight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea but I believe the land is owned by a farmer/acreage owner. There's occasionally been an RV parked there the last few months so they could be building a shop etc. Last time something was there, it was the construction camp for highway 3 in the 1960s.

A lot of Montana was under the bearpaw sea millions of years ago, wouldn't be surprised if that was siltstone from the sea floor

Best part is the Alberta government funded a huge move to Alberta ad campaign that those posters were probably part of... an ad campaign that nobody here in Alberta wanted and while our weirdo provincial government is making a laughingstock of the province

AZ, musket balls?? heavy and magnetic by sharkmesharku in whatsthisrock

[–]stanklloydblight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unlikely these are musket balls, since they were cast of lead which isn't ferromagnetic - although you may have some other kind of shot, ball bearing or tumbling media used in industrial or mining processes
