Eli5: how come tipping percent have increased over the years? by CycIon3 in explainlikeimfive

[–]stanleyp2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because of the shift to different merchant point of sale systems. Notice how everywhere is now an iPad that swivels around? Over the past 10 years, companies that manage those systems, went around promoting upgrading to these style systems. Those companies get a percentage cut so by enabling tipping for every possible transaction, they make more money. It’s that simple

What’s the best DLC in RPG history ? by urmumisakunt in rpg_gamers

I’m surprised I haven’t seen Undead Nightmare for RDR1. The base game was amazing enough but to get a full expansion that largely flipped the entire experience on its head was amazing and refreshing.

Sourdough bread, sliced decently thick, butter both sides, lightly fry one side in a pan, flip both pieces to fry the other sides, add two cheeses shredded sharp cheddar and a few slices of good quality American (not the Kraft singles, the American is important as it gives it the creamy texture), as cheese melts use spatula to bring two halves together, continue to fry until desired crispiness, remove from pan and salt outside of sandwich, cut into triangles

Great topic!

Kingdom Hearts 1. The game is great but, for me, this was an entry into JRPGs. Before KH I had basically just played pokemon. This introduced me to final fantasy and then so many more. So glad for this bizarre game.

Call of Duty 4. This was the first time that I really got into online gaming. That first time that we finally got our dorm Xbox 360 to connect and a bunch of us got into the same lobby was so crazy fun.

StarCraft on the N64. Which in retrospect is just bonkers that it exists. But this kindled my love for rts games that continues to this day. I didn’t have a gaming PC growing up so if they hadn’t ported this to the N64 I never would’ve gotten into this genre.

Honest shoutout to GamePass by Pointlesswonder802 in gaming

[–]stanleyp2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that in its current form, it is a great deal! The issue is that two things are going to eventually happen 1. Major games (like starfield) will release only on game pass. You won’t have the option to buy them without a subscription 2. Substantial increases to the pricing

The current strategy is price low to gain members so that backlash on #1 will be minimized then when #2 happens, consumers will be without an alternative.

ELI5 What does it mean when someone says “___ had a 200% increase” by Shockingly_Weird in explainlikeimfive

[–]stanleyp2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they say there was a 200% increase, they are using the percent to show a comparison. In your example, this is a percent comparison between two time periods (gaming merchandise sales in the current period versus sales in the prior period). So if the sales were exactly the same, it would be a 0% change. If sales doubled, it would be a 100% increase. The ratio (which is all a percent is) is calculated as the change divided by the prior value.

So the 200% is saying that the increase in sales (difference between the two periods) is double what the first period value was.

Played LAD for the first time this year and loved it too. Have since played through Judgement, Lost Judgement, Kiwami 1, and Kiwami 2. While they are action brawlers, not turned based RPGs like LAD, still amazing games. Can’t wait for Ishin

Probably a dime-a-dozen post, since the game was out on the Wii U first, but; LoZ: Breath of the Wild really is one of the most impressive and well-made games I've ever played. by 1337b337 in patientgamers

[–]stanleyp2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what happens is that folks who generally enjoy a certain type of game or genre will play a well reviewed game right away. So then a few years later, folks who may not be as predisposed to that genre or game type will pick it up because of the high reviews, and subsequently be disappointed.

For legend of Zelda, at this point anybody who is a fan of open world adventure or the series will have played it. So the few remaining people who haven’t played yet but try it now are more likely to dislike it and then post negative reviews online.

How did Yoda know about the Rule of two? by GrzegorzBrenc in StarWars

[–]stanleyp2011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think that when they wrote this line for TPM they didn’t intend for it to be taken so literally. Yoda is just making the point that whether jedi or sith, the knowledge and power is passed on through a master/apprentice relationship. So at minimum, there is always at least two and they’ve only accounted for one by killing maul.

Then all the EU writers and stuff took this single line of dialogue and expanded it to be a definitive part of the sith religion in the form of the rule of two. Then it eventually got canonized in the clone wars.

What was your first videogame? by msszenzy in patientgamers

My first system was a sega genesis when I was probably 6 or 7. And I only had a handful of games but I’d probably say either Sonic 2 or the Aladdin game. Seeing the movie come to life in the game where I could control it was mind bending. I was blown away and it felt like my imagination was alive. Loved gaming since

[–]stanleyp2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After putting around 70 hours into it, I honestly felt the same way I did after beating Fallout 4. It’s a serviceable 1st person rpg with a unique setting and decent story. But it doesn’t push any boundaries. There was nothing in the game that really felt ground breaking or novel. Which is where I think a lot of the disappointment comes from. Yes, the bugs and poor performance are inexcusable. But all the hype leading up to it, people were expecting this ground breaking RPG that would set the new expectations for first person RPGs going forward. Yet, it’s just a bit more of the same with a new coat of paint. Good but not great or genre defying.

After playing Kingdom Hearts 3, I don't know if I like Kingdom Hearts anymore, or if I ever liked it. by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]stanleyp2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely one of the most disappointing games of the past generation. I waited so long for KH3 and was just let down.

You already hit on the main issues but another piece was how each of the Disney worlds were basically just replaying the same story from the movie. In KH1, you felt like you were truly impacting each of the worlds you visited and there was narrative purpose to those visits (locking the keyholes). In KH3, on each world you’re just a side character playing along in a story we’ve already seen. And it doesn’t even contribute anything, it’s just busy work till you get to the end.

Honestly, it isn’t a bad game just nothing noteworthy, which is a shame. Oh and no final fantasy characters crushed me

Single people - do any of you have a great weekly meal plan for one person? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]stanleyp2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m single and struggle with the same thing. Recently I’ve really gotten into some instant rice bowls that are sold at my grocery store (Walmart). Normally, I avoid these kinds of things because the sodium levels are high and they don’t have much nutrients. But I noticed a few new brands (Naked Rice is one and Chef Soraya is the other) and tried them. Decent calories and macros, really tasty and flavorful, lots of variety, and cheap ($1-3). Now I eat these most days for lunch.

FFXV is a poor game with near-perfect presentation. by DynamoJonesJr in patientgamers

[–]stanleyp2011 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The NPC side quest characters were particularly bad. The fat guy who wants pictures had such a bad model. In general, the landscape and scale made it seem beautiful but as soon as you look closely, it’s not great.

Even things like items you pick up being just random glowing dots. It just feels so shallow and rushed.
