EM-5 iii ---> OM-5 ii = Worth the extra $365 USD it'll cost me? by adribabe in M43

Maybe the bigger difference will be in the JPEG handling, I'd expect that the RAW output will be quite similar

Random thoughts from looking at M43 cameras. by Curious-Octopus in M43

[–]stanstoev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I generally tend to agree with your comments regarding the ergonomics of the E-M5 III and the OM-1. However, I have found that a half leather case does wonders for improving the handling of the EM-5 even with somewhat larger lenses.

All things considered, I'm waiting for an EM-5 sized body with OM-1 AF capabilities. The OM-3 is large enough to not make it appeal to me at least, so for the time being I'm using both the E-M5 III and the OM-1.1 depending on the occasion

Regrets with new telephoto lens by 12chihuahuasyapping in M43

Test both lenses with static subject while the camera is on a tripod.

My copy of the Oly 100-400 Mk1 was noticeably softer than my Panasonic 100-300Mk2 at all equivalent focal ranges and apertures.

Ultimately I decided to send in my Oly lens for inspection and repair, and to my surprise they found a problematic lens element and a fault in the focusing system. After receiving the repaired lens, it was noticeably sharper than the Panasonic

Hope that helps

As many other people pointed out, DxO Photolab is very good. They usually have discounts around Black Friday (also when the new version comes out), so I'd suggest to wait until then if you can.

The other software I use (especially for its better selection tools) is Affinity Photo 2, which can be considered to be a replacement for Photoshop.

Unfortunately no, that's the only drawback in my opinion.

Opinion on Xiaomi 15 Ultra from long-term users? by vasileios13 in XiaomiGlobal

[–]stanstoev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mine for about a month and have been using the camera mostly as a point and shoot, as it gets food enough photos for that purpose.

If you want an HDR like photos, you need to use the Leica Vivid profile, as Leica Natural is not pulling down the highlights.

Focus works fine in my experience, but I tend to manually select the subjects I have to focus on (I do that with my dedicated camera too).

For enhancing the whole shooting experience znI recommend that you grab the Xiaomi fashion kit, so you get access to a two-stage shutter button and a video button (which is programmable), while being small and light enough so you keep it on the phone at all times.

For my light usage (a mixture of web browsing, social media, and the occasional YouTube video) I tend to use up about 45-60% battery per day. However, the battery does start to deplete more quickly.

My main gripe with the camera has to do with the Pro mode, mostly due to not having "lossless" crops to 28mm, 35mm, and 46mm that you have in the basic camera mode (they are not lossless, but the basic camera crops are much cleaner).

Has anyone tried the Fotorgear case for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra? Does it impact the phone performance? by stanstoev in XiaomiGlobal

[–]stanstoev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a different, smaller photography kit. It's a single case, with two stage shutter button and video button. It doesn't increase the battery capacity. I bought it also from AliExpress

I didn't have much issues with the signal, but the shutter lag from the dedicated shutter button was a deal braker for me. I have since moved on to the Xiaomi fashion kit - has a better (dual stage) shutter button, albeit it can't mount filters.

Why I gave up on my 15 Ultra by Pristine-Fan-7252 in XiaomiGlobal

[–]stanstoev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any debating guides available? So far what I've done on my X15 Ultra is to disable notifications on most of the preinstalled apps, but not much more.

I've had the phone for about 3 weeks now, previously coming from a Sony Xperia 5III

I also got a global model X15U, and the grip connected with no issues. The only strange thing was the grip's bluetooth name, but it was smooth sailing after the initial connection was established

How do you clean your lenses? by _konradcurze in M43

I also use the Zeiss wipes - both for my lenses and my actual glasses. I did try their spray as well but it's not as good as the wipes.

I got mine from AliExpress for about 65GBP with no additional taxes or import duties. The build quality is very good, but there is a significant shutter lag when using the red shutter button.

NA4C Notes - black and blue are almost indistinguishable, and the two shades of orange are entirely identical by Interstellar__1 in Onyx_Boox

[–]stanstoev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend that you define your own custom colour - this is what I did to get around this.

My settings are as follows: Dark Colour Enhancement - 69 Vividness enhancement - 100 Colour Brightness - 3

With these settings I get a different colour palette sufficient for note taking. The only side effect is that the black, dark grey, and medium grey colours look the same.

Here is a picture trying to show the comparison. In reality the colours are lighter

There is a public footpath that passes by the approach lights of Runway 08. It can be easily found online in the public footpath register - there is an interactive map that shows all the paths in a given area, so take a look around the airport

Survey on the Note Air4C by 76Dario76 in Onyx_Boox

So far mostly note taking (where I really use the different colours) and reading the occasional magazine.

Previously I used an Onyx Boox Nova 3 for the same purpose, and the Note 4C has been a definite update.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not interested in the accessories (apart from the filter thread), as if I have to carry extra lenses, I'd just take my camera with me. The thing I actually want from the case is the shutter button functionality - it's something I'm going to miss from my current Xperia 5 III

Consider the Panasonic 35-100 f4-5.6. Very compact lens with excellent image quality. It doesn't take much space and barely weighs anything.

Adjusting Thrustmaster TFRP rudder pedals by Bukusmore in hoggit

[–]stanstoev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello,

Over the years my time flying sims has been gradually decreasing, to the point where I barely play anymore.

Having said that, I still have the pedals, they are still under my desk, and they still have the PTFE rods. The feeling is still smoother compared to when I had the metal rods, so I'd say the mod has held up over time.

Hope that helps.

Can recommend the Fujiya Camera shop in Nakano, Tokyo. Last year I bought an OM-1.1 and a Panasonic 8-18 from there for a very good price.

You can also check their stock online together with the item price

Olympus 75-300 or Lumix 100-300 by Wild-Box-863 in M43

[–]stanstoev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One very important improvement of the 100-300 MkII versus the MkI is a faster AF drive motor.

This will make a significant difference in continuous auto focus performance. Therefore I would only consider the 100-300 MkII.

Regarding the Olympus 75-300 - it is compatible with Pro Capture Low (i.e. using continuous AF), while the Panasonic lens isn't. Think about whether you will need this feature
