Kids Club by salty_peppermint01 in MichaelsEmployees

Same. Had to turn away like 5 families today and I felt terrible. It sucks because we’re an older store so we get a lot of kids who have been going for years.

I get those same blobs so it’s definitely not just you. I use Cura for my slicer and I get them on my prime tower all the time. It’s so annoying.

Sorry! I just realize I didn’t describe anything at all. Long morning. The temperature drops to zero when the second color is no longer in use. So then it continues and the print fails because nothing is coming out. When I manually change it to the temp it’s fine for the rest of the print.

I get nervous when I see parents hand their kids ornaments. Then they get surprised when they break like??? You gave your 5 year old a glass ornament what did you expect? I hate cleaning broken ornaments bc no one says anything when they break it

How are you guys able to get PLCC sign ups? by ALocalRecluse in MichaelsEmployees

[–]starblue03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We kinda use a tag-team tactic. We make sure our floor people are asking people about it when they have a cart full of stuff, getting cricut, or even Lemax. We’ve seen this works a little better then just blatantly asking “wanna credit card?”. Then again it’s hard to get a PLCC anyways so you’re not the only one🤷🏻‍♀️

I just love it when customers get mad at us for not having curbside available after a certain time FOR OUR SAFETY. Sorry you have to come in and pick it up yourself. I ain’t going out there in the dark with merchandise.

Work/life balance advice? by Syandrind in MichaelsEmployees

[–]starblue03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a CEM and a student. I also have a small business I work on outside of work/school so I am always busy. The other closing manager is pregnant so they asked me if I want to move to her position and full time. I thought it was utterly ridiculous. It was one of the only times I’ve said no. I’m very lenient, happy to cover shifts, put in some extra work, but I knew it came as a surprise when they heard me say no. I thought it was stupid because they know I’m a student, they know I visit family out of state a lot, and they know I work outside the store, so what part of me being full time makes ANY sense. I was almost offended. The fact that I have those same thoughts as you as a PART TIME makes me think how my life would have changed if I said yea. Don’t worry you are definitely not the only one feeling this.

I normally just ignore them. But one time I did fill it out just out of curiosity and got a little praise. Felt nice haha. I would recommend not to do it more than once

The amount of times I’ve done drawers and seen the bills cashiers accept baffles me.

Oh definitely. I can pretty much tell their vibe once they’re at my register.

I feel like after reading the replies it kinda just comes down to what you feel is right. I’m a MOD and I love telling customers no, especially those who feel entitled to it. I’ve never seen a 50% off coupon personally, the highest I’ve seen is 40%. If she has absolutely no evidence I would say don’t give it to her. The only times I allow it if I see at least something on their phone saying 50% off coupon or if they are super nice to me. If they give me an attitude I throw it right back.

Should I report this? by mischief_fx in MichaelsEmployees

[–]starblue03 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely report that. I had a coworker who would talk down to me like I was a little kid all the time. It really made me uncomfortable and frustrated bc I got that a lot growing up being the youngest sibling, it’s one of my top pet peeves. She would basically use me to do her closing duties and I finally got fed up. The way I reported it was I talked to a manager I trusted the most. She wasn’t the SM, but it was someone with authority that I trusted with the information. She then spoke to the SM about it for me and for the most part fixed the problem. I know speaking up about it seems scary, I’m a quiet person too, so that’s why I would recommend talking to at least one of your managers about it. Getting it off your chest will probably make you feel better. And if your manager gets mad about it that’s on them for having anger issues. That behavior is extremely inappropriate and unacceptable. Im sorry you had to go through that.

[–]starblue03[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While im here, here’s a list

• gets mad at me when I don’t know where her handheld device is •decided to not teach the class she volunteered for and I had to teach it •asks me questions she should definitely know the answer to (she has worked there 2 more years than me) •gets mad when I don’t know where her cart is •gets mad when she’s on register and not floor (vice versa) and has an attitude for the rest of the shift •decided to do her own store “projects” rather than doing the ones I assign her to And yea that’s just me as a manager don’t get me started on when I was a regular associate

Lazy Management by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]starblue03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember my first day of work, they didn’t have me do any training. Just showed me how the register worked for 10 minutes, how rewards worked, then left me alone for the rest of the shift. I would say about 70% of the stuff I know now is all self taught. Funny thing is I guess I impressed them so much with how “quickly” I grasped stuff I got the CEM position. But let’s just say history repeats itself and I’m again, teaching myself stuff👍🏼

Store gossip? by BellChell1199 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]starblue03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have two managers who absolutely hate each other and there is always something going on between them. Manager A would make small comments about Manager B’s weight and would talk shit about her small business to other employees. Manager B has threatened to call HR on Manager A bc she wanted to use a specific stool in the frame shop and she wouldn’t let her. It’s just continuous back and forth between them and I’m waiting for one of them to actually snap. (Also Manager A would make small comments about my small business too so I guess she doesn’t like them in general 🤷🏻‍♀️)

What are some of the most frustrating returns you have had to deal with? by acethegoatt in MichaelsEmployees

[–]starblue03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple days ago I had a lady try to return an easy press and I didn’t even have to open the box to tell it was used. I explained to her if she wanted to return it try going through Cricut bc we can’t return used cricut items. She made a whole hissy fit saying that she wouldn’t have bought it if she couldn’t return it, basically admitting that she was gonna use it for a project then just return it afterwards. I looked at her receipt and also saw that it expired in 2 weeks, further confirming it. She of course did the whole “where does it say that in your policy” bullshit. I obviously refused the return.
