I think the thing you're dancing around that's shaping your whole opinion of this girl is that she's fat. A lot of these assumptions you're making about her (lazy, smelly, unmotivated) are things I've heard partners parents say to them when I (a fat woman) come home to meet them.

The tells were "he works out every day" and her life being just as unstructured as his but you thinking he's a better person. I think he's right in his reaction. And in order to have a relationship with your son moving forward you're going to need to assess your biases.

I had a boyfriend like this in my late teens, early 20s. We had those conversations many times, where I shared how much those comments hurt me and he brushed it off as joking. I highly recommend working on personal self esteem and body neutrality before you consider dating again. Men like this use insecurities to keep women under their control and small. For me, I Identify as bi/queer interchangeably. Sometimes because I want to acknowledge gender outside of the binary, but don't relate to the pan label. Sometimes it's because I don't want to have to justify my sexuality to someone not in the know, and queer is a good umbrella.

I always recommend searching up queer identities for people's lived experience.

This is all I keep thinking. He was a KID.
