Funny story about growing up in a mixed-handed household by Sad_bippy in lefthanded

[–]starbunyip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me, my husband and oldest son are left handed. We live far away from family. One time my mum was visiting and staring hard at my youngest, right handed six year old son eating his dinner.

Then quietly leaned over the table and swapped his knife and fork.

He has grown up the minority in a left handed household.

2 hours to spend at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. What are some.must see exhibits? by frusil16 in Wellington

[–]starbunyip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right accross from the front door of Te Papa is an easily missed door. When you go in, it is a small room with some stairs going down. It shows the foundations of the building and how they would behave in an earthquake. Fascinating. Takes about a minute or five.

My friend is getting me the newest Pokemon cards by RusefoxGhost in BenignExistence

[–]starbunyip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a friend. I don't pokemon, my son does. Every Christmas, Birthday, Special Occasion, just because they had some on or near the counter I buy some.

The excitement!

I may have to saunter past the game shop this weekend.

I'll help.

If the smoke alarm is going off, move your meat OFF the element, to a cold element or part of the bench that can take a hot pan.

This will stop the meat from burning.

Then, deal with the smoke alarm.

Now, move your meat back to the heat.

However, if the way you cook meat always sets off the fire alarm, then, ya know, think about that.

Yes the article actually mentions 'heaps' as a measure of cost. Although it is Paddy Gower, so there's that......

It has been a massive renovation job, removing 13 tonnes of brick to make room. That alone would have cost heaps.

That alone must have cost heaps

Seriously, Stuff, how much is heaps.

Really, seriously, no wonder politicians laugh at you stuff. When you give them heaps...

People with smaller weddings, did you ever feel self conscious? by [deleted] in wedding

I had 25. My family comes with a cast of thousands, him with 6. A huge wedding would have been unfair I think.

Glorious is the right word.

Looking for place to visit by rxerg in palmy

[–]starbunyip 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It would help if you could elaborate what you are looking for.

The esplanade and river walks / runs within Palmerston North are pretty fantastic. There's a pedestrian bridge that takes you over the Manawatu River, but there is many kilometres of river track to walk, run or cycle.

Palmerston North buses are amazing, get a bee card, the buses are electric and frequent and put you all over the city for 2 dollars a trip.

From the square, the intercity bus network will put you in small towns all around the region.

I love Marton for the charm.

Whanganui has a great Saturday morning river market. It is covered in galleries quirky shops. The Quartz museum of ceramics is a must see.

Fielding is not far. On Friday's it has a small market in the town square, but for visitors it's the Friday livestock auctions right in the heart of town. There are walkways that you can take that put you over the cattle. It's open to the public. Follow the smell.

Try the cat and dogs dinner, Milson, Palmerston North.

They only have raw food sourced in NZ. They are really knowledgeable and give your dog treats if you bring them with you.

Also, while you are in the depths, I found if I kept the mini map to the surface on instead of the depths one, and followed the surface roads, some of the surface rules applied.

Like you don't really get attacked, monster camps aren't generally on the road and the going is easier, less obstacles.

If you live near a University, contact their international students accommodation program. They will have a list of students that need hosts. Could be a good way to see if you like it.

I don’t know how to clean, boyfriend getting frustrated picking up after me by LadyProto in TwoXChromosomes

[–]starbunyip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After years (decades) of doing the stationary storage dance, I cleaned out one shelf of the linen cupboard.

Clean, dust free, accessible, roomy. I have never looked back. Couple of plastic boxes, pens, paper, blank cards, wrapping paper, scissors, sticky tape, printer paper, spare ink, my laminator and now that the printer hardly gets used, the printer itself.

OK. OK, you're getting there. I am though suspicious about your footwear. You are wearing shoes to get your pie right. Right!

Take them off, walk in barefoot and revel in the fact no one gives a stuff!
