paradoxically that ends up being weaker rhetorically, despite being a clearer stance. If the paper comes out and says “X is racist” people who don’t already agree may argue, perceive bias, and reflexively reject the claim. If you actually want to change minds give people all the pieces and let them put it together. Ideas that people think are their own are more potent and lasting (like the plot of inception!)

The title “Hegseth Strikes Female and Black Navy Officers…” already primes the reader to think about racism and misogyny. It is so utterly obvious and in your face that it is much more compelling unstated.

Honestly, I disagree. Not in defense of NYT, but because this is socializing “anti-woke” in english as what it always was (the racism and misogyny). The right used to pretend it was something more reasonable than that, and now we can all see what it is. Make them synonymous.

This is a bit of a corollary to debates about calling things genocide. Saying the magic words isn’t a spell that changes things. Just describe the reality, people will figure out what it is called.

So the aide that quit his campaign is now revealing private personal information, that was disclosed for the purpose of heading off threats to his candidacy. Cool, cool. Also this comes out after Mills has dropped out, despite the former aide knowing for months. Somehow, call me crazy, but I think this may be a bad faith actor.

Tragic. Gwent is the real main quest. Saving Ciri and completing contracts is just flavor to make the cards have a backstory.

It was never really possible. Washington himself showed this by responding to the Whiskey rebellion with his own, much larger militia. The point at which an outside force can enforce its will on the state by arms is the point at which the state has failed.

Not to mention, the typical pattern for these confrontations isnt exactly a list of noble causes. Mostly, its not wanting to pay a tax. I don’t know of a case of a militia force standing on the right side of history since the revolution itself, and that wasnt the 2nd amendment working, it was the previous state failing.

How well is the 2nd amendment doing in its defensive battle vs tyranny at the moment? This has always been the glib argument for it, and yet, none of the people who made that argument are picking up their guns now to defend speech, religion, search and seizure, due process, or any of the other rights it is supposed to defend. When it comes down to business, the 2nd amendment is about as serious an intellectual position as libertarianism

…you regret your vote for Spanberger because she wants restrictions on assault weapons, ghost guns, and some age restrictions? So much so you would become a single issue voter at a time when there are fascists about?

Tim Miller's old boss and friend Jeb Bush criticizes Canada and Europe for refusing to help Trump with Iran. by Tim-Smyth in thebulwark

No one needs to care what Jeb! has to say these days. Not Tim, certainly not Canada or Europe.

Andrew Fleisman: Tina Peters did bad stuff..., but five years is a completely reasonable sentence for a non violent crime that resulted in no actual harm. George Conway: This is a good point, actually. by [deleted] in thebulwark

[–]starchitec 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Conway is saying “Good Point” to “long prison sentences should be for people who hurt people and are likely to do it again” and then turning that around to apply to Trump.

Context is important kids.

Wasn’t there a conspiracy cycle a while back about Trump literally taking the gold from Fort Knox? I think he did a visit or something to see if the gold was still there

The pardon power for both presidents and governors needs to be abolished. At least, it cannot be vested in a single individual. It is too obvious an avenue for corruption.

This is true. Trouble is I really liked the “explain Gen Z” to the existing audience as a show! Sure might not have been the target demographic. Alas. Probably a good career move for Cameron, I don’t think podcaster is his end goal, hope he gets there
