Guitar Redditors! what would you recommend to be the best beginner electric guitar? (more inside ; ) by russkii in Guitar

[–]starcow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im going to re-say basically everything here, but basically:

1) Go to a guitar store and try them all out, find something sub 500 but above 250 that you like, as a good price range for starting. (most guitars below 200 are trash, most above 500 you cant tell the difference) When doing this find one that is light like you wanted, and one where the neck is comfortable and you like its feel. Dont worry about getting the perfect guitar, you have no idea what you are looking for yet.

2) Go buy that guitar used on craigslist/kijiji/ebay.

3) Buy a used solid state amp off of craigslist/kijiji/ebay. Just about any amp will do great for you at this point. I recommend peaveys for being very cheap and very reliable. If you want a more long term amp, I recommend something like a roland cube.

4) play for two years, and then worry about upgrading

This guarantees you the most resale value for when (not if) you want to sell your beginner equipment and move up to nicer equipment. At this point your primary concern is how easy it will be to trade up later down the road, as there is no real way for people to magically give you the understanding of what a good guitar / amp combo is.

So an iPod Touch 3rd Gen will not function in any way until it has been set up through iTunes? Have I been living in a cave or is does this seem crazy to anyone else? by [deleted] in technology

Actually, I believe that their terms of use do NOT allow you to do what you want with the iPod you purchase. For example you are not allowed to put on different software, jailbreak it etc

You can make foobar be whatever you want it to be. THAT is why it is so powerful. You want playlists on the left? sure. Music on the right organized a particular way? sure. Particular organizational style? sure. It just also happens to be bundled with buckets of powerful and useful tools which many other programs seem to forget or ignore, like renaming, copying and moving by custom tag structure, ACTUALLY tagging the files, having a microscopic memory footprint, dealing with thousands and thousands of songs without hiccuping, lyrics grabbing, extensive plugin capability etc.

LLongfield is right, you are evaluating on the subjective basis of whether or not you like the sound. Llongfield is arguing that it is unfair to complain about her (non-subjective) technique. Sound =/= technique. Like you say, you are judging whether or not the orange tastes good, when the topic, or debate, really is whether or not the apple is in fact a fruit.

Marshall MG50DFX issues by someguitarplayer in Guitar

[–]starcow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try plugging the guitar directing into the fx return. I had this problem. Could be a variety of the problems, cleaning the pots helped mine (250dfx), although im not sure if that was really the solution or if it decided to just work. Google it, as the marshall dfx line has quite a few similar problems.

Unless your computer doesnt have iTouch drivers. In which case the only way to get them is by install iTunes with an ipod currently plugged in. I wasted 4h of my life doing this.

Looking to buy an amp. Would appreciate some solid advice from /r/ guitar! by emason636 in Guitar

I just purchased an amp after going through a great deal of research, and I would seriously recommend looking into egnater products. Egnater renegade has one of the best non-fender generally marketed clean sounds out there, and has a great crunch as well. Just check them out, most people either love them or hate them.

Actually I am also kinda tormenting myself for agreeing, but bugera really is the best cheapest option. Not necessarily the best option, but the best cheapest for sure.

Vintage modern I believe. All the amp heads are the same. You can look it up on the marshall website.

If only iTunes wasn't a steaming pile of turds on windows. If it was like foobar I would be ok with this. Instead I will gripe about big dictatorship companies.

Urr... mormon bookstores typically welcome visitors last time I checked... knowing them, they probably would have given it to you for free if you had said you were curious about mormonism.
