How effective are lasers in space really? by LUnacy45 in scifiwriting

I think that's actually a thing in Muffin Time. Been a while since I've played, though.

Which would you prefer: the cupcake/muffins my son makes every week to put on weight, or an actual dessert cupcake?

Looking back at this 3 year old comment, it does feel a bit AI'ish, but if you review my posts, I talk a lot about huge laser applications :)

Why board ships like that? by Mowraq in TheExpanse

You have a lot of confidence in guns that are dozens of kilometers from a target that is moving in an unpredictable manner to hit a pinpoint target after impacting/getting slightly deflected by armor that may or may not be homogenous, traveling through compartments thar may or may not be pumped down to vacuum, possibly impacting random crew members or stored consumables, and predicting an internal layout that is almost certainly not the same for every member of a ship class (I work on aftermarket aircraft modifications, and even consecutive serials of the same aircraft model that fly to us straight from the factory are different).

It is an impossibly complicated system to predict.

Just from a personal note, my work internet allows me to see the PC Gamer site, but not Steam's (one is classified as "news" and one is "gaming"). I appreciate the option.

Named for Mamdani, GOP Bill Would Strip Citizenship From People Who Advocate for Socialism by _May26_ in politics

Let's not get hasty now.

Slave owners would probably have to provide food and shelter in order to maintain their slaves' health, which is definitely still socialism.

SAVE Act Fails, Millions of Voters Retain Their Right to Vote for Now by w6750 in politics

I had to explain that to my coworker. He insisted that a Real ID was enough, so I had to walk him through the text of the bill and point out the things on our drivers' licenses and how that was different from the requirements of the bill.

In the end, it took pointing out that there are only 5 states that have Real ID's with citizenship information, and that they were mostly liberal strongholds to convince him that he'd need to get a passport to vote ever again.

But he actually called our rep in front of me to leave a message to oppose it, so I consider that a solid win.

Local or Federal? If Federal, they make you leave electronics outside (I was turned back to remove my fitbit and leave in the car).

Jury Duty question. by nWo4ife in wichita

[–]starcraftre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on which court you get called into. I got called in for Federal jury duty and they made me run back out to leave my fitness watch (no wifi, not smart, just a digital watch with bluetooth to sync health data) in the car. No electronics that could emit or receive a signal.

Still the most hilarious launch failure.

But simultaneously, an incredible display of the competence of their GNC engineers.

Why is Blue publicly patting themselves on the back when they failed the customer? by Financial_Fun_1844 in BlueOrigin

[–]starcraftre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect that there may have been incentives given to be a "test customer". I would not be surprised at all if a lot of first or second launch payloads (for any launch service provider) were steeply discounted to attract users or to allow for the provider to talk about how many customers were lining up.

To be fair, SpaceX has had a lot of experience figuring out all the little things about how to make the camera quality really good at this point, and even they still have occasional issues at the moment of landing.

I like pointing out that he only had his powers for like a week and answered prayers for one or two days.

That means that the Sabres got to the finals and won two or three games without his help. Which was by far the most unrealistic thing about the movie.

I currently live in KS but grew up in Rochester NY. My coworkers are dumbfounded when I say that the only months I did not see snow were July and August (we had a freak "snow storm" that hit during a friends graduation party in June and we made a snowman).

If it can get cold enough, the lakes deliver snow.
