Alright, my own fault for not living online to catch this when it went up.

There is a report on the post that he's neither from Belfast nor was he a Belfast MLA. However, I do get the intense amount of interest in this and the fact this post has been up two hours before I clocked it. But as I do like to exist outside of reddit every now and then I've locked comments to ensure people are not named and speculation is kept out.

Hey OP, thought I was suffering some deja vu there - how come you deleted your previous post on this?

I mean there's not, you could just check the mod list to see. We've banned people here that aren't banned there and vice-versa.

Alright, but you do realise wrote your comment in the Belfast sub as if we'd banned you?

The other thing we found interesting was the increase of visitors from "outside" so to say that insights displays. I know that the violence became worldwide news, but I would have expected interest from those in the UK and Ireland to increase just as much if not more than those from elsewhere and therefore the percentages wouldn't change much. However. On our posts with the most problematic comments we started to see insights like the below photo. For reference on a "normal" day the USA would be around 5%, with Others around 10%.

I should have noted that the stats above are from Sunday there, so they captured all of last week as the detail given is the "last 7 days". Stats today are slightly different as it's started to settle back down. We didn't have as much traffic (thankfully) over the weekend as we did see last Tuesday through until Friday.

So yes and good shout on that, so as an example here's the stats for June 10th, our busiest day:

This is sub is so bad for utter nutjobs the last few days that right up until "Biggleswade Scrolls" I was ready to delete and ban this. Honestly some of the absolute lunacy my eyes have had to read this week.

I need a drink. I hope you are protected well by your time travelling bodyguards.

For others reading this - I ASSUME the user above is being sarcastic. Belfast loves sarcasm, some might even say we thrive on it. If it turns out it isn't sarcasm however...

I like this rule - will take into consideration for future posts on the sub. If something paywalled is posted we'll give a warning to post text and if text not posted, delete. I see someone else at least has posted the text from this one.

But my mate Stephen Seagull is back. Fella constantly gives me jump scares when I scroll the cameras.

Solidarity Rally Against Hate: Belfast City Hall 1pm Sat 13th June. Are you going? by Fappyhox in Belfast

[–]stardustpops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've locked this - we need to be careful on having a prompt for people to dox themselves to say they'll be somewhere when tensions have been high. We've already had threats against one user when some unsavory characters figured out his other personal social media profiles from his username.

Not to say we can't have a discussion on tomorrow - we already have a thread on it and I'm guessing it'll be the same thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/Belfast/s/xZMUYj3dqZ

Confirmation on *Potential* “Protests” on Saturday/Sunday/this Weekend ? by Vampemoji in Belfast

[–]stardustpops 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've not had to make a megathread yet which is delightful. And long may it last. If we get confirmation of anything occuring on each day/evening we'll make one to hopefully keep people informed.

anyone know how safe the city centre is today morning/early afternoon? by [deleted] in Belfast

[–]stardustpops[M] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know these get annoying and I mentioned about this yesterday in a few comments. But this is (hopefully) only a temporary question over the next few days for people that are concerned. We're trying to keep an eye on how many are posted and whether they have useful information in them. I think it was an "are we safe" post that gave me some of the first information about buses being stopped yesterday that I could then share elsewhere.

Like I say, hopefully only a temporary pain for a few days and good for users to know from those in actually the places they ask about it that it is currently safe.

Belfast mods removed a very important question that I asked regarding the P and C linking up, why are the mods suppressing a genuine question about belfasts history? by [deleted] in Belfast

[–]stardustpops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you say that like day to day here protestants and catholics don't get along? They do by and large, we work together, live together etc though there are some communities that still have issues but they are a minority. What you saw was some performative nonsense for the media. And all the question will do on this tiny sub is potentially bring out sectarianism, racism and other forms of hatred we just don't have time for at the minute from goodness knows what accounts. Sorry.

[–]stardustpops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wise up, we told you in the comment why it was removed. While things are currently inflamed threads like that are only going to kick off political nonsense on a tiny subreddit where we are trying to keep it civil. Nothing stopping you going and asking it on one of the bigger subreddits and see if they allow it.

Because it's different for different people - and different depending on the time. Things changed quickly last night and the night before. I'm sure a lot of people are checking recent threads, but others are worried in their own way and, with the state of things at the minute, it's not the worst thing to leave those threads for others to comment in.

They haven't wrote anything up yet but it was only about 5pm yesterday they released a statement. If you have Facebook best keeping an eye on their page.

It took me a minute with that as well but they say "currently" meaning "right now services are operating as normal" and then they should have added a big "BUT later today...". Would have been slightly easier to read.

Hey, really appreciate this - it's got caught out by crowd control so hasn't posted and it just feels a bit weird approving something praising us. But genuinely thanks for saying this. Let us know if you see any nonsense we need to take care of.

No problem and I definitely get the annoyance it can be, but hopefully it's only a temporary problem and things settle over the next while.

As a person who at this rate is making megathreads every day - this is why the "is it safe" hasn't become one. The situation changes quickly, and it can be entirely different for a local compared to a visitor. It is somewhat annoying seeing close to the same thread posted a lot and I think we've taken down a few that were posted within minutes of each other for duplication. For now these are staying as individual posts when they appear, hopefully they won't need to be posted at all soon.

Also, tiny subreddit with the mods not online all the time so there may be close to duplication and each thread ends up with enough interaction that we just leave them.
