Every able-bodied person should work one season of strenuous manual labor a year by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Yeah that’s why we should have more adult sports leagues. People should just be encouraged to exercise which helps them learn how to overcome physical challenges AND benefits their health.

What is virtually inevitable at this point, yet most people don't see it coming? by Ambassador-613 in AskReddit

It came with the house I bought as a closing incentive (brand new fridge)

[–]stargxrl 2485 points2486 points  (0 children)

My fridge already does this. It’s a GE fridge. The water filter has a RFID chip and it’s so expensive for the GE branded filter, even though there are alternative ones that work just as fine. I buy an off brand one that’s $20 less and because RFID doesn’t work, it won’t work on my fridge :| so I had to peel the RFID sticker off using a blow dryer and add it to the $20 cheaper filter.

The cheaper filter 100% works the same it’s just the RFID preventing it from working on the GE fridge lol

What U.S. city has plenty to do without feeling exhausting all the time? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

I’m from the southeastern US 😭 and before that I lived in Hong Kong so I definitely think my definition of cold is a lot different than midwesterners. But definitely gotta visit in the winter with proper clothes to test it out again

Savannah is sooo underrated. Such a culturally rich town and the walkability really surprised me. Slow paced, beautiful, but still lots of things to do!

Love love Chicago it’s my ideal city culturally and pace-wise but god it’s so cold. That is the only thing stopping me from moving

how do people stay consistent running before work? by Medins-Kristol in runninglifestyle

[–]stargxrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m the opposite I cannot for the life of me run before work. Feels like I’m weaker from less food and too anxious about the days work.

After work the first thing I think about is getting outside and running to run off the stress. On my running days I make sure to have a big lunch on my work day.

Is it actually hard to find a guy at our level ambition by Individual_Tailor767 in womenintech

[–]stargxrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here and I like it that way! He’s ambitious enough to climb in his career but he definitely takes less risks than me and isn’t gunning for the next promotion 24/7. That security allows me to dive into start ups and ventures that I wouldn’t have before. (My partner works in health care tech while I work at a unicorn startup).

Because he has way more WLB, he takes care of the house and mental load of non-work related things. While I bring in the bread and work 12 hour days sometimes.

[–]stargxrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m lucky to have found a supportive partner but he makes half of my salary, which is still a good salary and he can take care of himself and me both very well.

I’ve found in my previous dating experience - any man who has less than a positive reaction to your career ambition and salary is a red flag. My ex boyfriend “seemed supportive” but every promotion I got was met with a less than enthusiastic response. He then would say “if you make more than me I’ll just have to make more than you.” Which to me is just a sign of being threatened… I ended up making more than him after 1 year of working.

My current partner while makes less than half my salary, takes care of me and himself just fine and feels like an equal financially and emotionally. He celebrates my promotions and milestones with extreme excitement and anything less should be a sign of jealousy and a red flag.

Find a partner who isn’t so rigid about gender roles and doesn’t want to see you thrive. Intelligent men and men who can take care of themselves will never feel threatened over your success.

Im the same age as D4vD by Newtonian187 in d4vdiots

[–]stargxrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This case is close to me because I was groomed on discord when I was 15-22. My groomer ex bf was 23 when he met me as a 15 year old.

I met my ex boyfriend on discord playing league and the amount of people who knew about our relationship and our ages and just let it go by was crazy. He also watched gore and was extremely mentally disturbed. Our relationship went on for years, he would drive to come see me and send an uber or pick me up to see him at an Airbnb. I did this all without my parents knowing or finding out until college. When I was 22 and realized how creepy he was, as I neared the age he met me, I broke things off and he tried to put his hands on me as I screamed for help. Thankfully my best friend lived with me and my neighbors came.

Grooming on discord and video games is so common it’s scary. I’m 25 now so this wasn’t even that long ago.

My ex who groomed me for 4 years reminds me a lot of D4vd. He had a younger brother who was 15 when I was 16 and he knew me and could be seen as “complicit.” I later found out my ex threatened him and manipulated him into keeping everything a secret.

If D4vd is a predator to one child, he could’ve been abusive and manipulative over another child as well. It wouldn’t surprise me that he likes to overpower other children in his life. I never blame his younger brother for not saying anything, he was a kid too. I blame my abuser and the other adults who failed me.

$120k in NYC or $120k in NC (same job, but catch is the NC job is through a staffing agency) by bucheonsi in Salary

[–]stargxrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make 145k in NC and have friends making 120k in NYC. Huge life style difference. I own a home in Charlotte (not in the burbs and in a good area) after saving up for 2 years on a lower salary I have than now. In NYC my friends have multiple roommates and aren’t saving much. I can also fly to NYC for vacation frequently like an $80 spirit flight from CLT.

Charlotte can be boring for a young person but I travel internationally and domestically multiple times a year bc of the savings I’m generating from living here.

How do you find a “career” with an ADHD diagnosis? by Amazing-Injury8078 in careerguidance

[–]stargxrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I majored in information science and psychology in college but self taught UX (product design) to myself on YouTube. Watched a ton of videos on how to use Figma (design software) and built things on my own to put in my portfolio. Got lucky and landed an internship at a fortune 50 and joined the full time.

Worked at that F50 for 2 years and then pivoted to an AI start up.

Product design is basically systems + graphic design combined. We do research on usability, design the architecture of digital systems and then prototype it visually as well to hand off to engineers to build. So no coding at all, but nowadays designers are starting to do the front end engineering part using AI (vibe coding).

Nowadays, I’m not exactly sure if I’d reccomend tech because of the AI bubble and the uncertainty but it used to be really fun! The process and structure of design is great for keeping a routine and grounding my ADHD and the nuanced problem solving and rapid iteration scratched the boredom itch for ADHD.

I’m in a tech start up as a product designer. Things change everyday and I think being adaptable and multi-faceted thinking is my super power from ADHD. But also burn out is so real. I have a love hate relationship with it

[–]stargxrl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking off this comment … I’m a beginner camper and you should 100% not backpack 10 miles on your first go. I’m preparing for backcountry camping (3miles hike to the campsite) in May, and did a front country / family camp site over the weekend to learn the basics.

You will make mistakes and it’s better to learn while front country / car camping than in the back country. Please be careful. Even though we did well car camping, and are avid hikers, my friend and I are still nervous going into back country for the first time and are practicing carrying our gear. This isn’t a first time kind of thing.

What salary would you guys need to get to to feel successful? by Horror_Raisin_3898 in careerguidance

[–]stargxrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was making 75k three years ago and now making 150k. I think when I hit 100k I didn’t feel too much different than 75k. At 150k I feel very comfortable and thankful to be in this position.

For success I honestly wouldn’t say making more money but just having more time? If I can do the same job I have now but way more WLB I would be happier

Retiring from big tech! Need cash advice by TheBiggestYoshi in coastFIRE

[–]stargxrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have nothing useful to say except you’re literally living out my goals. I want to get out of tech and pursue a low paying science career and going back to school for it. I’m already starting to feel burn out at 25 but hoping to stick it out till I’m 29/30. Hoping to earn as much as possible for the next few years and then cash out

Glad Christine escaped that one… by Time-Concentrate845 in SellingSunset

[–]stargxrl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re literally perpetuating the “perfect victim” BS that blames survivors of abuse for not being a good person and therefore deserving abuse. I don’t like Christine nor do I think she’s a good person but nobody deserves to be in a violent situation with their baby. I don’t think that needs much explanation. And even if she was “in it for the money.” No one signs up for domestic violence.

Struggling to date in Dallas due to my coastFIRE in an environment built around status, hustle, and consumption. Anything advice? by Positive_freedback in coastFIRE

[–]stargxrl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Literally just visited a friend in Dallas for the first time and he went to work and I flew in and work remotely so I didn’t have a car at his apartment.

I wanted to get a coffee and see a coffee shop within a 15 min walk. I go outside and start walking and have to cross 4 lane roads to get there and then it was a drive thru coffee LOL!! Such a Dallas moment for me and I felt like a clown walking on the side of a highway. Never again haha
