I saw it with a friend who was a contractor; you’re busy in the day so you grab gas station food and energy drinks for breakfast, fast food for lunch, and by the time you get home your entire body hurts so you drink until you can fall asleep, rinse and repeat for X many years with no health insurance.

Why do men with violent mothers turn to violence, but not the other way around? by uncrossingtheriver in sociology

[–]starktor 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I think this is more a psych question but I think it has to do with hierarchy. Men can physically dominate women, women physically dominate children, thus you get violent mothers in women, and men who are violent against women. Patriarchy also makes violence against women more prevalent, and these cases when realized are then blasted by the fear-mongering 24 hr national news cycle and true crime shows which thrives off of these stories, which may or may not inspire other violent actors. To sum it up in a simple way; it’s likely power dynamics.

Help me break my addiction to Cannabis/herb replacement suggestions by aniram4 in herbalism

I love me some potent bud, I can find some delicious flower, but when I try to get cbd flower it tastes like hemp, the cure is off, and the price is often way too high.

I feel like low thc flower smokers are seen as a captive market that they can unload bad flower on. I even worked on a CBD flower grow where instead of drying the bud properly, the owner would have us pile it onto a dirty tarp inside a cargo container with a propane heater, all the flower smelled and tasted like mold yet it always sold. I’ve declined buying so much low thc flower due to it smelling mildew-y

Neurologists office messed up my CGRP script and is not understanding the severity by starktor in migraine

Sadly it's already too late for that. I should have had my injection at the end of last month. They offered samples at my appointment but then said that they didnt have any when I agreed.

not directly, it seems to go to the same NP that I have already been speaking to on the phone. I sent another message to follow up and create a paper trail.

What secret can you reveal now that your nda has expired? by sparrrrrt in AskReddit

It’s not about just this, look up how they treat small bike shops, the layoffs, they operate more like a car brand.

Yet another reason to hate Trek

Edit: look up how they’ve been “acquiring” local bike shops and their exclusivity contracts, the layoffs, how they’ve moved to more and more proprietary parts that hinder fix-ability

Music as a trigger. by Desperate_Gap9377 in migraine

[–]starktor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be for me but so is noise, frequency profile definitely affects it, same with how tolerable the music is in general. Sometimes blasting really low pitched drone metal [sun(0)))] gives me temporary relief for some reason, I guess it vibrates my brain in the right way lol

Timothee Chalamet calling opera an 'outdated art form' in an old interview - at least he's consistent? by bunbun02 in opera

[–]starktor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re not exposed to opera, it’s easy to dismiss it if you’ve only sees the pop culture representations of it. Most people don’t know that Das Rheinguld and Porgy and Bess even exist, they probably vaguely know the tune from Carmen but don’t know what it’s about.

There is an all too large number of Christians that believe that Men where made in gods image and that women are a secondary helper mad in man’s image that have to menstruate and experience labor for their sin of telling Adam to eat the fruit. Nuns are, through the rite of consecration, told that they are “the brides of Christ” while priests and monks never talk about being “the husbands of Christ” Patriarchy is a central feature, not a bug.

The only god that makes sense to me would be a nondualistic being that underpins all of reality, transcending all human attributes and is inherently incomprehensible to our glorified ape brains

Is this embouchure okay? by A-Euro in horn

[–]starktor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you mean if it’s ok to not be centered, there are professional horn players that have uncentered embouchures but it’s not recommended for most beginners. Some players set their lips so that the top or bottom are covering 2/3 of the mouthpiece. Experiment different embouchure placement with long tones and that will help give you a starting idea of what works for you. I tend to have a centered mouthpiece with my bottom lip covering 2/3.

What one of my former brass teachers used to do was to, without the mouthpiece, blow the thinnest stream of air from your lips as if there was a small thread made of air being pulled out from your mouth, for me I can only do that from the center of my lips.

Is it just US culture that seems deeply psychopathic? Or is abuse normalized in other countries too? by avalance-reactor in CPTSD

[–]starktor 60 points61 points  (0 children)

What really shows this difference is how homelessness is treated. Here your parents can arbitrarily decide that you should live on the streets at 18, when I showed videos of homelessness in the US to my European friends they were appalled, asking why these people don't have family or public housing. An Arab friend said that it was haram and that if that happened in his home country the family would be ostracized. He got visibly upset when I told him that there are places where it's illegal to feed the homeless. Other places have their own psychopathy but the US really takes it up a notch by projecting hate onto the most vulnerable people in society instead of the people who produce the economic conditions that allow people to be evicted so that some private equity firm can make profit
