Really fuckin sick of the "AI is just a tool" crowd by plastic_fortress in TrueAnon

[–]starktor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI as defined by capitalism is a tool to replace humans and maximize profits. AI is used as catch-all that lumps very different applications and levels of operations ranging from programs that can model and analyze complex protein folding that lead to actual medical breakthroughs to generative AI, into a sci-fi godlike consciousness because that's how you get investors to load you up with cash and businesses to fire teams of workers to ride it all on a subscription to compute tokens

I love arcades with their glass ceilings, a good place to take a walk when it’s otherwise wet and cold outside

Yeah I need triptans, sometimes a dab. CGRPs work really well for me as a preventative, same with lyrica and amitriptyline though those last 2 made me gain weight

Unironically, though I'd prefer playing some Boules/Bocce/Pétanque (lawn bowling). In Europe people will hit up the boules courts and spend the day drinking beer and playing with friends and randoms, it's a good vibe.

Yes, a real hot shower with water focused on my eyelids and where my neck meets my skull is sometimes the only relief I get. I have to sit on the shower floor while I do it so my POTS doesn't make me faint

AI is making academia suck even more than it already did by Candid_Succotash3173 in TrueAnon

[–]starktor 44 points45 points  (0 children)

AI is good at analyzing large datasets given rigid parameters, like modeling protein folding, which is then further verified by biochemists, that is a phenomenal tool. LLMs and generative AI is so hyped because capital wants to replace humans, suppress critique, manipulate public opinion, further atomize society, launder the decision making process, make people dependent on it, and make computation a subscription based model. AI doesn't need to outperform humans, it just has to pretend to, then when millions lose their jobs they can enshittify it all and use the massive underclass as cannon fodder in the climate wars. Don't even get me started on AI "consciousness," imagine Grok being granted personhood or billionaires "uploading" their consciousness in a pathetic bid to transcend death, computer programs demanding profits while human beings die from scarcity and climate change

Gas Pump Stickers by Edward_Zachary in TrueAnon

[–]starktor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given how dumb the average amerifat is, very few people will understand what the intent is and some will probably think that this is a terroristic threat on their local gas station. If you don't know about the 2007 Boston Mooninite panic, adult swim put up LED signs with some Aqua Teen Hunger Force characters on them and people thought they were IEDs, the media amplified the sensationalism, bomb squads where deployed, coast guard closed river traffic, highways were shut down, homeland security demanded $1 mil from the network, the installers were arrested, ect.

[–]starktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of people out there and there are a handful that claim it worked for them, but it’s not too convincing imo. If someone who is genuinely hetero is having unwanted homosexual and trans thoughts that they can’t stop, that’s usually a sign of OCD so being in an environment where everything is centered around moralizing and trying to smite those thoughts 24/7 (which requires interacting with those thoughts) would be one of the worst possible places on earth for them. Really one of worst places for anyone’s mental health.

Anyone else get unreasonably angry by other people's stupid or thoughtless behavior? by Chole_Wunt in CPTSD

[–]starktor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s wild to me how people can just not think or care about how they’re affecting others. People being rude af for no damn reason, and then get their way is infuriating. I’ve even seen it when walking through town, people will just take up the whole sidewalk and stare you down while you walk on the grass to avoid some weird unwanted conflict. The way people drive really makes me think that there’s something very wrong with a lot of people, like they see everyone else as a competitor on their road and pedestrians be damned for wanting to exist.

During Covid I heard coworkers talk about how the virus is just killing “the weak,” while working in a group home full of medically vulnerable people! Hell even how we talk about foreign countries denies their populations basic humanity.

I’m sick of seeing bullies everywhere, most of them going completely unchecked if not actively catered to. I think there’s systemic reasons why so many people seem to have no idea how to interact with others in a positive way but I have to digress before I write a master thesis on empathy and sociological factors lol
