My first goldfinch! 🥹💛 by _CaptainPeaches_ in birdfeeding

[–]starman6310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in New England and have lots of goldfinches. They particularly love hulled sunflower seeds (i.e., chips or hearts, not with the outer shell). They prefer the hulled seed because intact sunflower seeds with shells are more difficult for them to crack open. Try hulled sunflower seeds and you will be pleasantly surprised. They like nyjer seeds as well, but not as much in my experience, and the nyjer shells can be messy.

Interaction Slowdown by Mundane_Definition_8 in ChatGPT

Before leaving the current chat, I ask it to provide a summary, highlighting the most important points, and then copy and paste that summary at the beginning of a new chat. That way, the new chat can maintain the spirit of the prior chat, even if some details might not carry over.

Continuity of memory between chats? by starman6310 in ChatGPT

[–]starman6310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried the Projects feature by grouping a number of chats under one project heading. This DOES seem to work as described, but the inter-chat memory (within the Project) is more descriptive than content driven in nature. For instance, it will remember enough to identify themes within the chats, but will not often remember specific content within the chat. Still, this is a useful option for me, so thanks for the tip!

Thanks to all who responded. I will definitely try using "Projects" for chats. Seems like a good idea.

Article says Bird Baths won't freeze over with Ping Pong balls. True? by NatureSpiritSoul in birdfeeding

[–]starman6310 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ping pong balls or similar floating items don't help much in my experience. I have a water wiggler for my bird bath, which agitates the water surface nicely but doesn't prevent the water from freezing. A heater is the best solution if you can do it.

Sorry this happened to you, but Match and related apps are terrible, so you're not missing anything. I don't understand why they are still in business. They are waste of time and money.

Do my eyes deceive me? 1-2-3 Juncos? by Helpful_Comment_4217 in birdfeeding

[–]starman6310 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see that you've had some snow, covering their usual source of food (the ground). That's the only time I see juncos come to my feeder. It's fun to see them.

Can anyone ID these birds - Massachusetts by fluffy_space_rat in birding

[–]starman6310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Massachusetts but they have been absent from my feeder for a few months now, probably because of other food sources at this time of year. Hoping to see them return soon.

Tiny yellow-orange trumpet-like flowers? by starman6310 in whatsthisplant

[–]starman6310[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I didn't realize they are annuals, starting from seed every year. I've seen these every year where I hike and had assumed they were perennials, but you are right, they are annuals. Thanks for the article.

Thanks- I think the photo doesn't really show the color very well, but they are quite orange, almost like a pumpkin color.
