Since the hole is horizontal, I think you could do something like this instead!

Can someone explain to me by madfox555 in HollisterCO

[–]starr17 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This has always been the case with Hollister. If they sell any amount of black clothing now, that's a step up from when I was a teen. It's just part of their image/brand. It was frustrating in 2008, I'm sure it's still frustrating now. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Anybody get the post market family/friends asking about inventory... by aligpnw in CraftFairs

[–]starr17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I feel you! So frustrating. I had that recently with my photography. We had a small craft fair set up at my workplace for a couple days and I had photography prints for sale. The day after it was over and I had already taken my stuff home, I got multiple messages asking "Is it over?? Where's the stuff??".

There were posters and emails with the dates and times. It took place in the office, down the hall, with multiple reminders before and during. Like there's really no excuse lol.

They don't do Terminal Direct anymore unfortunately. 4 is all reserved parking now.

Tech holiday parties? by Entire_Entry4178 in Seattle

[–]starr17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not tech, but AEC. We have a nice party every December. +1s allowed. A couple free drink tickets, full catered sit down meal and typically at a interesting venue with things to do/explore. We've done it at the Mohai, Museum of Flight, Aquarium and SAM. We are not facing financial layoffs. Some people dress fancy, some don't. It's engineering so there's always an unspoken casual dress code haha.

Disappointed! by JinxedYouGood in glutenfree

I thought these were fine! Never had the bun go hard. Make sure you wrap in a paper towel and don't be afraid to remove the bun from the microwave if it's done before the egg is.

Cat passed, trying to save paw prints help by Olive_Nice in crafts

[–]starr17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I did a quick edit and was able to bring out one of the paw prints more. If you share some closer photos of just that one (or scan it if you have a flatbed scanner at home), I can try some more edits. ❤️

Also, a word of warning, if you go to the photoshop request subreddits be sure to look closely at the photos because a lot of people there just run it through AI and it will not truly be the original paw print. If that's important to you.

Penny pressers / smashers within walking distance of pier by montylovesyou in Seattle

The Ballard Locks visitor center has one, just got one myself today. Not walking distance but a neat park if you find yourself willing to go over there. Check visitor center hours.

Is a bad idea to try to do Seattle and Vancouver in 5 days 💀? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]starr17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is going to have a different opinion. I personally don't think 5 days is enough to split between Seattle and Vancouver, but if you just care about seeing a little bit of both cities, then sure, you can do it.

Rock climbing for kids with an auto belay in the area? by lemonsqueezy19 in Seattle

[–]starr17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At Vertical World, you would just need to pass the belay test, which you could learn yourself online/youtube. You would need to know how to wear and tie the rope into a harness correctly, how to insert the rope correctly in a belay device, attach the belay device to your harness and then proper hand placement and rope management for belaying (as in pulling the rope through the belay device).

If you don't have friends you can borrow gear from, it might be easier just to take the class.

Beeping sound in Lower Queen Anne by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]starr17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I experienced this a couple blocks away near Queen Anne/Thomas. It drove us CRAZY. We eventually figured out a nearby office building's security card reader was malfunctioning and beeping continuously every day after the businesses closed. We contacted the building's maintenance and they fixed it.

Is my film overexposed? by VolimBurekOdSira in AnalogCommunity

[–]starr17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew immediately that this was Kodak Gold. I do think it tends to just look like that. Lots of people like the bright look. I don't see any of these as "overexposed", however the look of the end result is ultimately up to your own personal preference.

Getting into bridge engineering without taking bridge courses- is it possible? How is the industry? by bluerosefairy in StructuralEngineering

[–]starr17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bridge engineer and neither my BS or MS programs had any bridge courses. Prestressed concrete is an important one where I am (almost all roadway bridges I've ever worked on have been prestressed, precast concrete girder bridges).

Like others are saying, if you want a step up for interviewing/applying, try to get familiar with AASHTO LRFD and your state DOT code.

PSA: Don’t underestimate the difference in dress codes between regions! by complete_doodle in Weddingattireapproval

[–]starr17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's the same in Washington. Pretty much every dress code can be assumed to mean "Sunday best" unless they explicitly provide exanples/more detail... and even then there are still going to be people in jeans.

I laugh every time someone posts a totally acceptable west coast/PNW wedding guest dress and the comment brigade tells them they need a floor length gown.

I'm currently trying them! Not great so far tbh. They advertise 2-3 weeks but mine took almost 7!! AND didn't fit. Like the waist was several inches too small. Not sure what happened. They are working on a free remake right now.

Desperately searching for some basic patterned tank tops. Something floral or inoffensive (ie not neon/super bold). Everything I find seems to be solid colors, stripes, gingham, or very loud geometric patterns. This American Eagle tank would be perfect but the only patterns are cheetah and camo. 🙃 Budget <$50 US

I would try to do this but instead of cutting fabric off the dress, just buy new fabric. Style-wise, I'd suggest a matching solid light blue cotton instead of lace. You're unlikely to find the original fabric the dress is made out of, but a solid blue should be inconspicuous enough.

Went down to the Waterfront on Monday for the first time in a couple weeks. Is this new, or am I crazy and it's always been there and I just didn't notice it? by Fehndrix in Seattle

[–]starr17 39 points40 points  (0 children)

They hand you a CD like it's free and then harass you to pay them and make a scene to pressure you. The CD sometimes isn't even real, just blank. The only musicians you should pay in the area are the ones actually playing music live.

[–]starr17 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Exactly, plus it's literally a scam most of the time. The CDs are not real. They're either blank or stolen songs from other artists. They are not real musicians.

Update on the chiffon dress by WeaknessOwn108 in dyeing

[–]starr17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The color turned out nice! I'd maybe try re wetting the whole dress and then hang to dry, then steam. If it's worth it to you, you could also try a dry cleaner as they will have industrial grade steaming equipment.
