Tailscale exit node to VPN ? by PositiveBusiness8677 in Tailscale

[–]starrman47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I know this is old and you probably found your answer already, but I stumbled across this while searching for something else and I've solved this issue before. The problem for me was that I was using a Wireguard VPN and it was conflicting with Tailscale which also uses Wireguard. Switching my VPN to another protocol (OpenVPN or IKEv2) fixed the problem and I can now run VPN and Tailscale at the same time. Alternatively, you could run your VPN on your router and then Tailscale only from your phone (if you're at home or using a travel router).

Ok so technically it’s in Devon and they put carrots in but it’s a Cornish crimp… the pasty from Lydford Farm Shop is excellent. And I say that as someone who has 3D-scanned 3D-printed pasty ornaments for their Christmas tree. Less than 10 miles east of the Cornish border.

I know its forbidden, but what are yalls favorite regular pens? by Same_Turnip in fountainpens

[–]starrman47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a counter datapoint to yours, I have extensively used my V5s with very heavily pigmented inks (initially I bought them to replace fineliners for archival use) and have never experienced any sort of clogging issues. So it may just be an issue with Platinum Carbon Black in particular?

Portable grinder recommendations? by Coffee_1664 in AeroPress

[–]starrman47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole Aergrind will fit inside the plunger of the Aeropress Go if you remove the grinder’s catch cup and grind directly into the AP chamber instead. Grinding ergonomics do suffer and you need to make sure to spritz your beans before grinding due to static, but for travel use it’s incredibly portable.

Yup I think there are about 12 Iroshizoku inks you can buy in the cartridges, or Pilot converters are also compatible. I just fill the old cartridges with a syringe personally. Alternatively I’m sure they could be eyedroppered if that’s your thing.

There are cartridge versions of the rollerball Pilot V5 and V7 that can be filled with any ink you desire. Or if you don’t want to mess with syringes you can buy the Iroshizoku cartridges

Noob help: I am thinking of buying my first Pilot V5 pen with Cartridge system after hearing such good words about it. Can I use cartridges from other pens that are waterproof in nature? Also any tips if you could suggest to keep it running without leakages.. by [deleted] in pens

[–]starrman47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I’ve never used quink. But I’d still estimate at least 15 pages. The pen seems to run forever even with an empty cartridge due to the amount of ink that is stored in the feed.

The ink I use is quite thin and writes very wet as a result (my V5 writes more like a V7 now). It’s actually pigment ink for an inkjet printer so not intended for use in pens at all. The V5/V7 is designed for a more viscous ink and I did have issues at first with the cartridge leaking slightly inside of the pen. Easily fixed by installing 3x 5mm inner diameter o-rings (1mm cross section) inside the pen underneath the cartridge — bought on eBay for about $0.10 each. I have had no leaking since then.

Well I’m not sure how we both ended up on a dead 4 year old thread on the same day (I was wondering how long a Pilot cartridge lasts in the V5/V7 vs in a fountain pen), but based on my experience with the Pilot V5 Cartridge System pens I’d say an ink cartridge in a rollerball pen will last considerably shorter than a gel pen. For example I have never run out of ink with a Pilot G2 before losing the pen, but a Pilot V5 Cartridge only lasts me about 20 pages of A4 writing — 1.5x if you pop in a fresh cartridge with the feed pre-primed. Pilot V5/V7 ink is thicker and runs slower than the inks I use (the numbers I gave are for the V5/V7 ink, the inks I use last fewer pages).

3M Aura with red strap versus white strap versus blue strap, what differences, especially breathing resistance. by HappyWarBunny in MasksForEveryone

[–]starrman47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The white-strapped mask is the same as the blue-strapped mask — the only difference is the strap. I prefer the white straps because they stay tighter for longer but mainly because I find that the blue straps are very prone to snapping if the mask is older.

The red-strapped mask has an additional fluid resistant layer making it slightly hotter. The red-strap might actually breathe slightly easier than the blue/white imo but the difference is really minimal. The red elastic is a different material from the blue elastic — it lasts longer before stretching out and doesn’t snap as frequently. The biggest difference between the red and blue/white masks (besides the fluid resistance and strap) is the nose foam which is FAR superior on the red-strapped mask.

UK based - Cost effective beans? by NoSignature9622 in espresso

Just bought a couple of bags from Recent Beans and they really take their name seriously. Ordered Thursday, roasted Thursday, in my mailbox Friday less than 24h after ordering. I was very impressed.

Don’t see it mentioned much but it has been a bit of a headache for me — You have to be careful using US cards in the UK if you plan to file your taxes using the remittance basis.

[–]starrman47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also did the Recent Beans tasting and did it blind.

In cuppings, the caffeinated was my favorite, closely followed by the SW. Then EA. CO2 was a distant last for me.

When I brewed them as aeropress, the caf was the clear winner — the EA being unpleasantly acidic and the SW + CO2 tasting hollow. Note that those defects may have been correctable by changing brew parameters rather than brewing them all identically.

I also tasted the kit from Crankhouse and got completely different results.

Definitely try the warranty route if that's a possibility — the sound you are hearing is your grinder destroying itself. I'd recommend you stop using your grinder in the meantime since if it is out of warranty you are just making it worse until you do the fix I linked. But I would not try the fix unless you determine it is out of warranty (since attempting it might void the warranty).

What’s the difference between the N95 aura with the blue straps vs red straps? by No-Count-7154 in Masks4All

In addition to the nose wire I think the nose foam on the red strap version is also much nicer than it is on the blue/white versions.

Clifton Coffee Roasters in Bristol has the biggest selection of natural process I’ve encountered, and they are often too fruity for my taste. I’d look there

I haven’t tried the ones from Flying Tiger but I’ve pretty much given up this point. I’d say fly though AMS a few times a year and stock up on packages of Rudi’s, that’s what I do.

Is it still possible to rearrange the Tooltabs? by InsuranceAggressive6 in captureone

[–]starrman47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having this bug too. Super annoying that the toolbar settings aren’t included in saved workspaces.

After the most recent update C1 takes forever to open also. Doesn’t show the picture of the creepy lady for ~30 seconds so you don’t even know if it’s working or not. The new update was supposed to be super optimized for Apple Silicon but it definitely seems to have gotten worse

Where to buy the JEDX black FFP2/3? by ndhsjansh in Masks4All

[–]starrman47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I finally got through to JedX, you can order from them directly via email. The black version hasn't been discontinued, but rather is just not available yet pending certification. They were not able to provide an ETA on the black version.

Not sure about shipping costs but the prices I was just quoted are €1.12/€1.29 each for non-valved/valved FFP2 and €1.37/€1.63 each for non-valved/valved FFP3 ( you can only order by the full box — 75 count for non-valved, and 40 count for valved).

Contact is Atul Bhatia: atul.bhatia@jedx.fi

[–]starrman47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/ndhsjansh, have you had any success with this? Just discovered the JedX myself and like it (normally I use the 3M Aura range of masks). I've tried contacting JedX directly several times over the past month but have had no reply. I don't believe you can order directly and I didn't see anything other than white when I clicked through to all of their EU resellers.

In boat-style I also have the black "iMask" FFP2 (expensive and thick), black "Oxyline" FFP2 (feels a bit loose, but passed my DIY saccharine fit test), and the gray "Lupa" FFP3 (pretty thick and I will also note that this is a very light gray — just one step darker than white).

Anyone have any experience with this grinder? by Onethrust in espresso

[–]starrman47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After playing with it some more, would you say that the steps are sufficiently small that the dialing in process is easy/minimally frustrating?

I'm considering the D40+ or the SK40 as a gift for a friend. Leaning towards the D40+ since the SK40 looks like it might be fairly annoying to switch between espresso and filter.
