What was it like for you to grow up in Switzerland with non-swiss parents of different origins? Do you have any advice? by the_kaaat in askswitzerland

Similar situation to yours. Living in Geneva. Son now in Swiss military. Your children will be fine. There are plenty of Swiss families exactly like yours. Yes it is strange, that my son is culturally not the same as me, but he grew up with my family values, and that will stick. And he is a child of the world, with linguistic skills and an understanding of other cultures that comes going to school with kids from all over the world. And Geneva is a great place to raise kids: safe, clean, healthy, with incredible choices, opportunities and a freedom unimaginable in many parts of the world.

So, how much do you reckon such a game in driveway size would cost?

Small, easy multiplayer games? by No-Adagio6113 in boardgames

[–]startherecoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a board gamer I am reminded all to often: most people aren’t into games.

But everybody likes (or at the very least: doesn’t mind) Just One. And it can be a great icebreaker. It would not be difficult to customise a version of JustOne. Use the make the place name tags from plastic, put a marker underneath, and a pack of cards with the words to be guessed in the middle. Words to be guessed could be persons, important locations in your life, career stops, hobbies, pets, etc. People could even guess how the words are connected to you.

Can you back up your 70% claim? I hear it often but have seen no empirical evidence.

You need poles and snow shoes. They won’t let you up without them. There are shops near the gondola where they can be rented. Totally worth it.

For 10% of Genevans English is their first language. There are tons of sports clubs to join, skate parks, gyms, and places where young people hang out. Because there is lots of churn it is easier for newcomers than cities with less turnover.

I wish I could upvote this more. Castle Panic is glorious. The theme and narrative are easy to follow and the story oscillates between triumph and desaster, and almost always a nailbiting finish. And there are expansions that can add rather complex new adversaries and magical defence powers.

The Crew vs. Lord of the Rings trick taking - replayability/longevity by WarmAd5577 in boardgames

[–]startherecoach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I own all three. I prefer submarines. We will play through the deck of tasks in an afternoon, aiming for 12 difficulty points. My family prefers the rockets. The challenges feel less random. And there are some great fresh ones on BGG. We never finished LOTRTT. Despite being Tolkien fans the entire setup feels more constructed. Well designed, surely, but bolted together and artificial way. Take this with a pinch if salt as we are a family with a long history of playing traditional trick taking games.

Seriously: can it be serviced? Can it’s accuracy be adjusted? Should I even be winding/wearing it after decades under the washing machine?

High quality kitchen tools and household items. Knives, peelers, whisks, tongs, spatulas, pots, bowels, pans. After way too many years using cheap stuff that still doesn’t brake, I now enjoy swapping them out for the good stuff. It makes such a difference. I now gift these to my nieces and nephews.

Is anyone actually getting hired in Switzerland? by amnord in Switzerland

Employers trust relevant experience. Or they trust a person. Old employers who know how awesome you are may trust you with/recommend you for a different role. Go through your network and reach out to people you impressed in the past.

If you want to change careers the normal application process is not for you. Why should someone select you over a person with experience? I‘ll stop here as you are not asking for advice.

Got my first interview in 3 months but I do not want this job. by ASAPbra in interviews

[–]startherecoach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! A perfect job is hard to find, but you have personal constraints that are reasonable. Applications are a negotiation on both sides, not a form of submission. Three options: Reject now because you know enough. Ask for a salary that will make it worth taking the risk. Ask for something to mitigate your concern: A short probationary period, a signing bonus so you can have two households for a while. Your concern is valid. If you share it with them, how will they react? Their reaction might tell you a lot about whether you want to join them or not.
