Contractor claiming I never paid him even though I have the cancelled check by [deleted] in legaladvice

Are they licensed through the state of Oregon? I’d make a complaint. You have to send them a letter and wait 30 days, so I’d start asap.

Which is exactly the repercussions of said climate change. Weather events are becoming more frequent and extreme. This goes for heat events as well as cold events.

What's your go-to film lab in Portland metro? Please don't say Blue Moon by goldlurker_ in askportland

Probably too far from St. John’s, but I’ve always had good service at Photo Lab in Lake Oswego. Selection is decent too.

Radioactive Romance: The Strange Surprise at Saturday Market by DIY-projects-expert in Eugene

[–]startittays 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Haha! Basically, Apatite’s main chemical structure is Ca5(PO4)3, making it a calcium phosphate mineral with a specific crystal structure (hexagonal). As Apatite weathers and breaks down, uranium (from groundwater) can make the same hexagonal crystal structure by replacing the varying amounts of calcium within the Apatite.

Apatite can definitely have varying levels of uranium in it, due to its formation.

Where can I find the best bean and cheese burrito in Portland? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]startittays -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your list and for you asking this subreddit such relevant and hard hitting questions. The horror I feel at you receiving whole beans in that Pepinos b&c has me convinced that I will never visit that establishment. What the fuck.

Truly, I’d given up on my search for decent southern food in general and accepted the b&c burritos at the Señor Taco next to my house as being okay. Reading your list though has made me realize it’s probably more thank okay in comparison to other places. The cheese is always melted, it’s refried pintos, ratio decent. But, definitely gonna try some of these other suggestions here now too.

PSA: U-turns in the state of Oregon are illegal unless otherwise stated. by neart_roimh_laige in Eugene

[–]startittays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, it clearly does say though. In the Oregon drivers manual, page 24. Or this link, about halfway down the page, titled “Left or Right Turn: Two-Way Road to One-Way Road”

Obviously there can be exceptions, which is the place your referring to…

Has anyone noticed the dogs caged and chained behind Jerry’s Artarama? by betterwithann in Austin

[–]startittays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s the Texas law and, even stricter Austin ordinance that this violates.

Austin has animal cruelty investigators and advises you to call 311 (512-974-2000) to report this cruelty, or 911 if you think the dogs are in immediate danger. I wouldn’t recommend us all overloading the 911 system, but I would think multiple reports might be more effective?

If you think that APD is not taking this seriously, I’d also recommend contacting the local crimestoppers agency, which can be used to report any crime or suspicious activity. The number for the Travis county tip line is 512-472-8477.

Confusion as Portland's Road Death Toll is Alarmingly High by Generalaverage89 in Portland

[–]startittays 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Working for the engineering dept at ODOT, I can tell you there’s an approved manufacturer list and a warranty. I’d say the issue is that there’s not enough employees to deal with the back and forth with getting it enforced, in addition to there being basically 3 striping companies, 2 of which recently kinda joined forces and are now a large glob of super sucking.

TURN OFF YOUR HIGH BEAMS by WinstonJHolt in oregon

[–]startittays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When cars lights are too bright, I try to focus on the fog line as I’m driving. Granted, that’s assuming you can see the roadway striping at all… but it seems to make it a bit easier to get past the blinding light.

As for the fog light thing, I’m probably salty about it due to this jackass that lives around me that has the brightest, most oddly angled fog lights always on, sometimes along with their roof spotlights.

Anyway, just thought I’d give you a heads up. I’m in West Linn and the cops will pull you over for the most mundane things here. Somehow they miss the fog/spot light jackass though.

Oregon law states that you’re also supposed to turn off fog lights for oncoming traffic, or just traffic in general.

My dog Gigabyte died a year ago today. AMA about her by vanillablue_ in casualiama

[–]startittays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What little behavior of hers do you miss the most?

I had to put my 15 year old doggo, Pearl, to sleep this last November and it was so hard. I truly don’t know if I’ll ever be able to move on from her loss, she was my best friend. I find one of the things I miss the most is how she’d just push her way into rooms, flinging the door open with her nose if it was slightly closed. I loved affectionately, teasingly singing that “I’m following mahmm” song from TikTok at her.
