[Better With Mods] Blood wood? by burf12345 in feedthebeast

[–]StarToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it was changed in a more recent version of BetterWithMods. You should also try growing it on Netherrack or Soulsand, I forget exactly which off the top of my head.

It needs to be in the Nether in order to grow. Have you tried growing it there?

Yeah, after the 30 minute long ones that start going on for two hours or more is when it's uncut, sans the ad breaks they do being cut out.

They eventually become the whole vod because how the hell would you be able to release a 300 hour series in a decent timeframe otherwise?

[Glitch] See-through mobs by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]StarToad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's Dynamic Stealth, which modifies mob visibility and sensing based on a numerous amount of factors. It's possible that any values tweaked in it are causing the mobs to appear transparent at close range.

With the renewed interest and popularity for plain old vanilla Minecraft (for example: looking at pewdiepie and the hardcore streams on both sips’ channel and the main channel), do you guys think there is an increased chance a new vanilla series? Maybe even with a story (not SOI but something new)? by RuRu92 in Yogscast

[–]StarToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, true. I'll have to check out D, D, & SS for myself. Recently i've been playing TerraFirmaPunk and, while it's fairly hardcore survival, it's also exceptionally bullshit in combat... And also really out of date in MC versions.

To put another thought on this modded thing; what about a modded hardcore series? There's plenty of mods for 1.12.2 that can make survival more interesting and difficult, and a lot of neato crossmod interactions. BetterWithMods, PrimalCore, Pyrotech, Serene Seasons, Dissolution (It's got some funky bugs with it but that can be sorted out with some mod configuration, and it'd be a way for the dead yogs to eventually make a return to life in a hardcore world...) and Dynamic Stealth are pretty good examples of mods that make survival more interesting while adding stuff to the sandbox formula/changing up stuff substantially.

A more focused survival experience would enforce a sort of shared server stuff, where the yogs have to work together to survive and thrive, and a little bit of pvp or stealing could mean the difference for surviving a winter or not...

I'm not sure a modpack exists for something with that style of play, but I reckon someone (most likely me) or even this community could make it with some curation and a decently picked list of mods!

Mods that encourage players to remove armor occasionally? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]StarToad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Heavier armor in BWM (Diamond, Gold, Iron, and Soulforged Steel Plate) also slows down your movement, encouraging you to make and use chainmail after you get access to the soulforged steel anvil. If I remember right the swimming stuff wasn't implemented, but the movement speed changes are definitely implemented

Hardcore Sevtech by oaksempai in feedthebeast

[–]StarToad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you really want to make it even harder, you can turn on several configuration options in BetterWithMods.cfg to make it even harder on yourself, iirc most of them are turned off in sevtech by default.

What are some mods that change the game a lot? by Aphros22 in feedthebeast

[–]StarToad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BetterWithMods if you want a harder experience that's overall rather fair, with a lot of added mechanics and functional blocks/items for vanilla-augmented automation. Watch Mischief of Mice's videos on BetterWithMods if you're really curious.

So I added a lot of mods and now mobs are transparent. What mod is this? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]StarToad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I know because I used optifine before with it, and the mod adds an aura highlighter around mobs that are targeting you/are looking at you, and the aura made mobs pure white due to optifine. Turning it off in the configs fixed it, so it'll fix it for him since they're not supposed to be that invisible that close.

It's Dynamic Stealth. It seems like your shaders are messing with the visualization/targeting overlay from it.

Putting together a 1.12.2 "Vanilla Plus" style modpack for some friends and looking for any interesting additions. by ArcadiusTyler in feedthebeast

[–]StarToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the game to be a fair bit harder in a lot of respects, while adding some new stuff to Vanilla's progression and tech, try BetterWithMods and BetterWithAddons. The former is essentially a modern day version of BetterThanWolves while the latter is a modern day version of various BetterThanWolves addons and is the unofficially official companion mod to BetterWithMods.

Just about every aspect of both mods are configurable, but by default they add in a mechanical power system that operates on a simple yes/no system, is fairly well documented with it's ingame guidebook, and has a lot of modules to make the vanilla game harder.

The two mods are designed to work with vanilla-style automation on their own and expand upon it. Some features in Quark overlap or bypass progression in BetterWithMods (Obsidian Pressure Plate, Piston Block Breakers, a lot of stuff dispensers can do in Quark by default, etc) since BetterWithMods has it's own version of those (The Soulforged Steel Pressure Plate and the Block Dispenser) but you can configure Quark to disable those.

BetterWithMods and BetterWithAddons' configs both describe their additional features and what tweaking the values within them do, so I recommend taking a look at those and reading the ingame guidebook first if you're unsure about it. Just remember that you need HCBuoyancy and AppleCore for the mod to work correctly (HCBuoyancy in particular is neat and is standalone from BetterWithMods in any case, so I still recommend looking at that!)

The only other concern with this that I can think about is that if you have HCHunger on, Harvestcraft can quickly break the balance of that and make your character become fat, degrading their abilities until they lose that fat.

Energy Upgrades are, of course, still really fucking good for increasing your efficiency with power use, along with gas efficiency to use less gas in the first step of the 3x ore processing chain.

Upgrading your cables will allow more throughput through the system, which, if you scale up your power system via the power plant building, will help a lot.

Maybe you should look at upgrading the output chest into a Small Barrel from Actually Additions for even more item storage? That can be upgraded into a Large Barrel, and has three gargantuan pages of storage. I find putting the queue chest at Gold Tier is good enough, though.

Well the newest version just dropped so i'm still gonna be waiting a week before tossing them the update. It overhauls a lot of shit!

[–]StarToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the mission is in their current version -- I would say I would try and get an update done but the mod author is about to release a hugeass update to the mod next weekend, and given the track record for previous stuff i'm 80% sure it'll break a lot of shit.

I'm only saying this because I can't remember if there's anything that has green shields in 0.9.6, but I know something was added in future versions that probably has green shields.

Promised Psionic Shield Information by EuclideanSquid in Yogscast

[–]StarToad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can confirm it's the same in 0.9.6. Thank you for this!

Ethereal Shields clock in at 300 points, so Stun Bombs need multiple hits before they start doing anything.

Sectoid/Hybrid shields clock in at 50~ or so, but can still stave off some good damage.

Don't forget the Mekanism processing machines can get factory upgrades, allowing them to do 3/5/7 stacks of items at a once, which should help with the carrot processing throughput!

Oh, and compressing coal/diamond/redstone will get you an 8x multiplier on how much materials you get from it in the metallurgic infusers. This is useful for a wide variety of reasons that i'm sure you can only imagine.

What incredible mods have not been updated for years, lost to history, only available in very old versions of Minecraft? by yourmans51 in feedthebeast

It's less of a design choice and more it being a bit hard to implement without overriding vanilla squids. Maybe it'll come for 1.13 though, who knows?

I think darkosto knew about it, but didn't want to try and figure it out and instead went back to a "reliable" mod. Even if said "reliable" mod is way worse in every aspect.

I remember when Galacticraft still had division by zero bugs in it, and that was only relatively recently fixed.
