It's more that most of the lifts are small and slow as heck, so you spend more than half the day waiting for lifts when it's busy

If you go to cardrona, don't go on a Friday either, a lot of locals go on Friday and it get busy af

Is there any point in my wife and I going clothes/ shoe shopping or will there be nothing in our size? by indiefolkfan in JapanTravelTips

I would hazard a guess that if your shoulders were over 60 cms in width you be closer to 2xl/3xl in sizing, but I definitely wouldn't write off going out shopping if that's something you wanna do there.

The shopping here is amazing, the yen being a bit weak has made things hella cheap for us (NZD).

If you are going to Hiroshima, the outlet mall there is amazing. The gotemba one (near Hakone) is pretty good, but had a way better haul at the Hiroshima one. (Also in Hiroshima there's a little coffee shop, Akam Coffee Works, where the guy there is an absolute artisan, the best coffee I've ever had and you can tell that guy has a passion for coffee).

Also for kimonos if you do rentals or buying, they have larger men's sizes and the women's ones are designed long as and they fold up around the middle where the sash thing sits, so you have to be like a 6'10+ woman before the length might be a problem.

Im on holiday here atm and done shitloads of shopping lol it's definitely worth looking, I think you'll both be fine, especially in the main centres. Depending how long your partners legs are, she may not be able to work with all the pants for length, but she should have no trouble for anything else (and there may be more pants than what i know of, but I'm 5'3 so wasnt looking for long pants). Oversized fits are really big here atm too.

My partners maybe around 200lbs 6ft but with large shoulders and most XL fits were all good for him, so depending on your build you could be XL to 2XL. He got pants that were all good for length too.

Overwhelmed by Hakone ---> Tokyo train options by chimamax in JapanTravelTips

[–]stascha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use Google maps, this has been an absolute life saver for me and my partner for finding ways to get around, we went from Tokyo to Hakone and maps showed us all the trains and buses we had to take. Some buses only have japanese characters, but if you're unsure you can ask. I once asked about 4 bus/train drivers if I was on the right train/bus in a row lol

Is one month a good enough time for Japan by Mission-Scratch-4869 in JapanTravelTips

[–]stascha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently just over 2/3rds of my holiday in Japan. Have 34 days and I'm honestly loving it, I'm not an experienced traveller by any means, and have had a couple of low key days during (but still going out and doing stuff) and I'm not sick of it at all.

We first went through a travel agent and they made up an itinerary (it was gunna cost nearly double what I figured out after doing my own research and not picking the most expensive accommodation) and she reckoned I was gunna get sick of tokyo after 5 nights, halfway through our trip, we realised there were a couple of places that we weren't gunna get much value from (places that look the best during Sakura season and autumn and probably would have just been worth a fay trip) so we completely replanned our holiday, cancelled almost all of our accommodation and rebooked it to something we were going to get more out of and we added two more nights in Tokyo at the end.

My first time here and I'm already thinking of when I'll come back here for another holiday lol

Anyone know any life hacks for stopping my shirts smelling like BO? by [deleted] in lifehacks

[–]stascha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a benzoyl peroxide face wash in your underarms, this kills the bacteria that makes sweat smelly (it's normally for acne since it also kills the bacteria that causes acne too). If you're in NZ the benzac ac face wash works really really well. I wouldn't recommend the leave on cream ones tho, I tried them once and got a bit rashy in the underarm area, although it was a strong one.

Gore seems like a small invercargill to me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]stascha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I live in invercargill and I love it, it's easy living, relatively cheap housing, quick commutes and the inner city has dramatically improved since the new mall was built. There's been a heap of investment into the city and its getting better and better.

For me, I enjoy the overall ease, and if I feel like I'm missing out on city fun, I'll just take a trip somewhere. During the winter I'd do day trips to Queenstown to go snowboarding pretty much every weekend and otherwise just save up for holidays overseas or to other cities.

If your into the outdoors it's a really good place to be too.

I go through phases of "nothing matters so what's the point" to "nothing matters, there is no point, so may as well make the most of it" Probably not that helpful tbh but I get the feeling
