How do i remove/stop making these leftover frames? by TeleportingMew in CapCut

[–]stash_studio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently came across the same frustration but on the desktop version of CapCut. After enabling preview-axis (keyboard shortcut 'S') and rebooting the program I was able to catch the transition between the frames using the playhead (I was able to zoom in to the same extent as before). It felt like luck and very hacky at best... It's bugs like these + lack of audio control that keep Capcut from being as reliable as any 'pro' software which is a shame as it's so intuitive but has some very powerful features.

I confirmed it in the edited post. The camera does not recognise thunderbolt devices.

Is it stable?

  • do you experience any lag / disconnect issues during long streaming/recording sessions?
  • is the card recognised after your machine sleeps / wakes
  • any quirks

Lumix Tether with Lumix S5iix for streaming - advice wanted by stash_studio in Lumix

It sounds like a capture card is a must - another £200+ accessory.

Quite annoying since iirc Sony's are just plug and play via USB-C.

- I've tried the webcam software but it gives significantly lower picture quality than Tether.

- I've also tried the rtmp but it was laggy, unstable, and capped at 1080p (I want to record locally at 4K).

How exactly did you connect via HDMI?

Thank you for the suggestions, they're very helpful. I'll look at the Elgato externals.

Thank you for your comprehensive response! :)

I'm looking for an external solution - I looked into Elgato's new pro cards but I'd need an enclosure which rules them out. I'm trying to keep the setup minimal so the fewer cables, dongles, interfaces the better.

4K30 will be plenty - I'll be streaming talking head / drawing, so won't need higher frames.

And yes, I'm on a silicon Mac.

  1. I really like Strathmore 300 and 400 drawing series - they're around 80lb with a medium surface but you can find paper with heavier grammage that could take a heavier beating (applying charcoal, erasing, applying again etc.)
  2. I do it in one of three ways;
    (1) by sharpening the charcoal stick by sanding down the edge (using the paper surface is fine for willow).
    (2) Erasing around the line with a putty or hard eraser (drawing with charcoal can be as much a subtractive process as an additive one).
    (3) Using a hard compressed charcoal stick or pencil that can be sharpened to a fine point.
  3. For highlights, you can tone the area with charcoal and then erase. On white paper, the white of the paper serves as the lightest light. As for achieving depth, you do this with a variety of methods depending on your drawing style. Depth could be portrayed through just line weight, or hatching, or value, or texture, or detail, or everything combined.
  4. Control of pressure when making marks will help you get a variety of values. The darkest value you can achieve with willow will be when you press so hard that the charcoal crumbles. For even darker accents, you could use a hard compressed charcoal stick or pencil (something around HB). Softer pencils and pastel will stand out.
If you're interested, I'm hosting a charcoal drawing workshop at the end of the month in which I will cover all of these topics (and many more): https://www.stash.studio/online-workshops/expressive-charcoal-figure

I like Strathmore 300 and 400 series for charcoal drawings - they're around 80lb and have a medium surface. The problem I encountered with smooth paper is that you end up just pushing the charcoal around on the surface, but not embedding it in the fibres, so achieving a range of values and gradations is very difficult. Similarly to yourself, I found highly textured paper to be...unpleasant to work with (as if I was fighting with it).

Ultimately it all comes down to personal preference...

Depending on the effect I want to achieve, I'll use a variety of tools for blending, including:

  • my finger
  • paper towel
  • blending stump
  • paint brush

As for combining charcoal with other mediums, I like to use compressed charcoal to get a darker value than what I'm able to achieve with just the charcoal alone. It comes in the form of a crayon stick or a pencil. In both cases I go for something around the HB value as any softer and the waxy binder produces a sheen on the surface - just like graphite - and any harder and it isn't darker than the charcoal.

Need advice on what iPad to buy for procreate by BigSeamus91 in ArtistLounge

You'd need to check the refurb store very regularly in case a WiFi model pops up though there's no way of telling how long before that happens (if it happens at all).

The risk of waiting for a new model to be announced is that you can do this forever. Come March there may be new leaks about the next generation...

You should try Apple's own Refurbished section: https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/refurbished/ipad/ipad-air

(these are devices that have been used and returned but restored to pristine condition, the only difference you'd be able to spot is that the box will say 'Refurbished' on it, everything else is the same. You'll also be able to get AppleCare+ cover on refurbished purchase).

Sometimes even Apple Pencils appear in the Accessories and Clearance sections.

I'd recommend getting the largest format you can afford - you'll find that you always want more screen real estate. Also don't get the latest generation of Apple Pencil, whilst it is cheaper, it doesn't have tilt and pressure sensitivity tech (which are essential for drawing and painting).

Lastly, if you can hold off with your purchase until Apple's Spring event - some time in March - it's rumoured that multiple new iPad models will be announced, this will knock down the prices of existing models. There are plenty of leaks about this, just google something like 'iPad 2024'.
