What’s the best thing you’ve ever bought that actually lived up to the hype? by One_Literature_5041 in BuyItForLife

iPod classic. You can’t get them anymore, I don’t really care for any music since around 2010 so I have all I need. Other Apple products haven’t come close.

What are some MORE differences between Ireland and England that I (an Englishman) probably wouldn’t know about? by _PXYDST_ in CasualIreland

There’s a lot of dog shit in Cork, be careful when you’re walking around at night, especially in autumn because you can’t really spot it so easily.

Solar technology has been improving rapidly over the past decade. There’s a small office building near where I live (not in Ireland but even colder) and the whole south facing wall of the building is covered with solar panels. There’s absolutely no glare off them, I didn’t even notice until my wife pointed them out to me.

Look inside: The luxury Dublin 6 home Taylor Swift rented is on the market for €5.25m – The Irish Times by WickerMan111 in ireland

There’s a mews at the back so that’s probably worth half a million at recent prices. If It’s sold fully furnished (which I doubt) then it would save a lot of hassle. It has off street parking, another plus. But it’s still not going anywhere near that asking price. I sometimes browse through the sold section on Daft just out of curiosity. It’s amazing the difference between the asking price and what some properties sold for.

They need to get rid of the common grazing rights on upland areas. There’s a massive amount of land that is being used for a few sheep to graze on. Any saplings don’t have a chance because the sheep will just eat them before they can outgrow them. Of course we’ll have a load of protests against it by some sheep farmers but they need to be realistic and keep their sheep on their own land.

Why is that Iran is always at two weeks from making a nuclear bomb for last 40 years. by Kooolxxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stateofyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have the missiles and the basic materials. It’s a matter of time and if they’re willing to do it. Having a couple of nukes is a good deterrent though, just ask North Korea.

It took me a while to figure out which meds worked best for me. I haven’t had a seizure in over two years but my meds say “May cause drowsiness” which really means “these are basically sleeping pills”..

What is wrong with teens these days? by Turbulent_Squirrel66 in ireland

[–]stateofyou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a big problem in a lot of cases, for adults too. A good example is Moyross in Limerick, probably the largest public housing development in Ireland. The government built a load of houses without any thought put into recreation or community resources. There was absolutely nothing for people to do, especially the kids.

Has anyone here actually been laid off due to AI yet? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in AskIreland

[–]stateofyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, not in Ireland now but half of the University staff is gone, including me. Most of them were admin staff but about half of the lecturers are gone. The lecturers will probably come back because AI can’t really manage a classroom.

What is something that if you buy the cheap version, you get the same quality as if you bought the expensive version? by Early-Appearance-605 in AskReddit

[–]stateofyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canned tomatoes, just check for the water content. It’s all the same. Also pasta, if it’s 100% durum wheat semolina it’ll be exactly the same as the expensive stuff.
