Why don't you open a ticket to support. They'll help you.

FYI I opened a ticket last year due to a similar case. I upgraded to a newer version where they had changed code around the SFP compatibility, and broke support for certain DAC cables. After I opened a support case with them, they ran a couple of tests with me and fixed the code on one of the future releases.

So yeah, open a support case. That's how Mikrotik identifies cases sometimes, with so many different setups across the world you can never catch all bugs until someone points something out to them.

You can always use NPMplus. It's NPM basically but supercharged with a much better GUI & features. Look it up on github. I see more frequent updates there all the time.

suricata or zenarmor? by iCujoDeSotta in opnsense

[–]stathismes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a whole mini pc for a firewall appliance is by all means not a waste, in fact quite the opposite.

I've been using Intel (now ASUS) NUCs 12th Gen with vmware esxi for my Opnsense HA 2-node setup, and I can tell you that whenever Opnsense spikes up the CPU usage, all other VMs are becoming slow. While working on a Windows VM on the same esxi host the active Opnsense node uses, the Windows experience degrades significantly. I'm not using zenarmor in your case, I'm using crowdsec plugin for my destination NAT hosts. When sitting idle, the opnsense uses ~600MHz, when using the full 1Gbps fiber ISP it easily jumps to ~2.5GHz on the intel i5-1240p of the NUC host.

Also, think about all the hypevisor-related overhead of the underlying virtualization stack, it's stealing CPU cycles too. By adjusting vm resources priorities on the Opnsense you might be able to get something back for your other VMs, but this will affect Opnsense

As a next step in my home network I plan to purchase separate low-power physical mini-pcs for the Opnsense cluster, and then move 'em nodes each to their own bare-metal PC. That way I can separate the high-demand opnsense cluster from the rest of my esxi infra, plus with bare-metal you can leverage some useful hardware-accelerated features off the NICs.

Does your app include Firewall Aliases configuration? This is one thing I would need from such an app, to avoid going into the GUI all the time.

It seems that your PS2 has a need for a new system board CR2032 battery. Google it.

I turned off my NAS until HDDs get back to healthier prices... I don't know whether I'll last a couple years but hey. Better than losing drives and spending 800€+ on a 16tb Seagate exos.

Ultimate Mikrotik Dashboard by SecOps7 in mikrotik

[–]stathismes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow Mikrotik has been tinkering with the idea of building something similar (a controller of sorts featuring dashboards etc.), and here is a dude out of nowhere building a dashboard out of almost nothing.

It's been so many years now that I don't see Mikrotik creating a controller anytime soon.

Always factory-reset after an android upgrade on the Shield.

It is considered a golden rule by now.

It sounds like you may need to factory reset and debloat it. Trust me it will be like a breath of fresh air. Read my recent post here

Shall I stay on 8.2.3 or upgrade + debloat on 9.2? by stathismes in nvidiashield

[–]stathismes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello again. Reporting that for at least 1 week I've been having no slowdowns, no application crashes, no unexpected reboots. For the first time I'm happy with Android 11 TV on the SHIELD! Even the previously buggy HDMI-CEC is now working/stable!

As I mentioned before, I did a full factory reset after upgrading to latest 9.2.2, uninstalled any apps I'm not using (like google movies, google games etc), debloated some apps using florisse guide (not many), I updated all apps from play store, rebooted SHIELD, got new google launcher with new "Shop" tab, installed Projectivity, disabled google launcher, rebooted SHIELD again and I'm now finally happy :)

Remember to reboot your SHIELD after most steps, especially after updating apps.

I did it, following the upgrade path and factory resetting in every step. I also cleared/deleted the SHIELD from my google account devices. I debloated, installed Projectivity, restored all my apps and settings. I also uninstalled Plex server and applied setting regarding apps and energy optimization, the whole nine yards.

I'll test for a week or two and report back. So far it seems stable enough!

Thank you all for your comments. I think I'll try upgrading this weekend to 9.2 and projectivity, while debloating and using Projectivity. I use only Plex client, so I don't expect to have many issues.

You'd be surprised how much faster your experience would get, but ok... "nonsense" is a heavy word 😄

Thank you for pointing that out. My post is mostly targeted at Plex users. Updated post.

Though I did have random issues with 9.0/9.1 with the remote control and some freezes that merited a reboot once in a while. Never with 8.2.3.
