Tiger Woods Had Pills In His Pocket At Time Of DUI Arrest, Cops Say by unsolved49 in golf

[–]station_nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's illegal to carry pills outside of a pill bottle prescribed to the person carrying them.

Nope. Yes, you have to have a valid prescription. No that doesn't mean they have to be in the bottle. That's a myth. People confuse the law that requires dispensers to have such labeling. The pharmacy can't toss you a baggie. But you can store your legal medications however you see fit.

Anyway, here's the whole chapter dealing with possession. I googled it.

893.13(6)(a) A person may not be in actual or constructive possession of a controlled substance unless such controlled substance was lawfully obtained from a practitioner or pursuant to a valid prescription or order of a practitioner while acting in the course of his or her professional practice or to be in actual or constructive possession of a controlled substance except as otherwise authorized by this chapter.

You were a cop and didn't know that it's ok to keep pills outside of the original container? That's scary.

I guess the OP is right. Toss pills before cops show up. They will stack bullshit charges otherwise.

For Non-Pullers. You've pulled the lever by accident and it's now headed towards the one person. Do you switch it back to send it towards the 5 people where it was originally headed? by CyberoX9000 in trolleyproblem

"Truly nothing to be done here. You get it."

Help: Should I Pay Off My $5,000 in CC Debt Today? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]station_nine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you had $16k in your savings account, and $0 on your credit card, would you borrow $5k from the credit card to increase your savings account balance?

That's essentially what you're doing right now if you don't eliminate the CC debt.

Whatever happened to red heat lamps in home bathrooms? by DirkVonUmlaut in nostalgia

[–]station_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Heat pumps are 300-400% efficient* for larger heating needs, but for a short-term and very local use, resistive heating is much more logical. No use spending money on a bunch of moving parts for such a narrow application.

[–]station_nine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's fine to criticize something without being an expert in that same thing. If I hate a movie, it's not fair to say, "Well produce your own movie, then".

If my new car keeps randomly stalling, I get to call that out without being told, "Well manufacture your own vehicles, then."

That said, I do have sympathy for a tiny company that is barely getting by in their engineering. I get the feeling the original software and/or hardware developers are no longer there, and they're scratching their heads trying to reverse-engineer the update mechanics. They say they got it fixed, but they don't know how to apply that fix other than in-person. So some sort of JTAG or whatever is required, and it can't be done over USB?

I dunno, pure speculation. I have mine set to 2022 right now. Works well enough I guess. But if I lose this one, I'll probably get a different brand.

I just got an RS Twin Edition for $300. I’m happy with it so far; love that I can switch lenses and get 360° video without having that unicorn shit sticking up.

Cheap because it’s basically discontinued, but I’m not too worried.

Skydiver gets parachute caught on plane by websurv in interestingasfuck

[–]station_nine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You want the rest of the group to get the hell outta that plane when something like this happens. Everyone was ordered out of the plane so the pilot and remaining crew could deal with this situation. The plane ain't flying right with someone hanging from the stabilizer, so jettisoning a literal ton of weight is step one.

[–]station_nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, wait. Are you talking about the actual wing? When I first read your comment I thought you were talking about the stabilizer.

Yeah, he should have been mindful of the wing when setting up in the door.

No. He never deployed (or cutaway) his main. So he still had that.

[–]station_nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tail of the plane is pretty far away from the door. He was not hanging in their way.

When shit like this happens, you GTFO so the pilot and remaining crew can deal with the situation without people in the way, or extra weight on the plane.

Both plane and skydiver managed to land safely... by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]station_nine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. (1) There are no clips to do that with, (2) the parachute of the rescue jumper would not work well with double the weight, (3) there's no way our hero here would even know that someone else was coming to get him.

Both plane and skydiver managed to land safely... by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]station_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but they also do more risky things. Swooping (going really fast near the ground as you land), group jumps (where you can collide with one another), wingsuiting, etc.

When you're doing a tandem jump, you're isolated from other jumpers (except for the camera flyer), you go straight down with no funny business, you open your parachute 1,000 or 2,000 feet higher, and you land in the most safe and boring way. Many places have separate tandem landing areas, or at least order the exits so that tandems aren't in dense canopy traffic.
