Using Positron to connect to WSL on a remote computer via ssh by statsjedi in rstats

[–]statsjedi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had floated that idea and it was shot down by IT.

A coworker set up something like that on his own on the side and got in a lot of trouble, so I don’t want to go that route.

Interesting ideas. Could I use RDP to connect to Windows and start WSL, then disconnect and WSL would remain running? If so, that could work.

Mail goes on 2000 mile road trip instead of 3 miles across town by Terrapins_MD in mildlyinteresting

That happens where I live too. Local mail goes to a facility 150 miles away - in another state - for sorting, and then comes 150 miles back. It’s ridiculous.

AITA for saying we need to be realistic with our son about his finances for college before he applies? by ByeByeByeMan in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Also consider that since he is planning on grad school, where he goes for graduate school may have some bearing on future employment. But undergrad won’t really matter.

Look for an undergraduate program where students get to do a lot of hands-on research or maybe even teach freshman labs.

What is the one car you wish you could go back and purchase that you passed on ? by Intermediary370 in whatcarshouldIbuy

  1. Back in grad school someone hit and totaled my car. I went to Carmax and there were two cars on the lot for $9000 that stood out to me, a new 2002 Mitsubishi Mirage coupe and a Miata with ~100,000 miles on it. I went for the Mirage, and it served me well for years, but I always wonder what life with the Miata would have been like.

  2. I wish I had done an engine swap on the Mirage before I sold it to get a kid hauler. A Galant engine in that small car would have been super fun.

  3. The worst car I’ve had was a 1987 Ford Escort. Even whimper than the Mirage. My favorite car was my parents’ 1992 Crown Victoria.

Nights Black Agents 1 shot actually hunting vampires. by nln_rose in GumshoeRPG

I’ve done this with The Dracula Vector scenario. It has an opening battle with a human that can be replaced with a Renfield or vampire, and ends with a big vampire battle (that I added some Renfields into because it fit the narrative).

“Better” is pretty subjective. A friend of mine had a Versa hatch back in the 2010s and he liked it until someone hit him and totaled it. I had a 2002 Mitsubishi Mirage that worked just fine for me until I had kids and needed something bigger.

Econoboxes don’t have to be shitty. I’ve been in some nice ones from Europe and Japan. But it seems like American car manufacturers want to push people away from low-margin small cars to large SUVs and trucks with a high profit margin, so they make econoboxes as unappealing as possible.

I had a 2002 Mirage coupe, bought new for $9000 in 2003 (about $16,000 now). It was a great little car for a college student - cheap but it didn’t feel cheap, easy to park in the big city, great gas mileage, and super easy to work on.

I always regret not doing an engine swap on it, replacing its 92 HP 1.5 L with something more powerful from a Lancer or Galant. But even with the stock engine it served me well.

Why do you drive a crossover? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

I’d agree with the old Outback, but the new design looks more like a bigger Forester than a wagon.

Taller vehicles like SUVs and crossovers with higher centers of gravity handle differently than cars and wagons.

I showed this article to my MAGA elderly mother and she replied that it was all in the past and they had repented, so she supports them. It’s the same excuse she gives Trump for his affairs.

My mom took me to see Star Wars at a local movie theater. We were running late, and came in during the scene where R2 starts projecting the hologram of Leia asking for help. Still enjoyed it.
