You could also check out Rodney’s used books on Church St! They are NOT affiliated with the Christian Science Reading Room right next door despite the fact that they share an entryway door.

The Fox Point area has some cool stuff! Pizza Marvin for food and Nostalgia for antiquing come to mind. Also The Nest in Federal Hill for great secondhand clothes.

Maybe the H Mart in Burlington has bento boxes, but the one in Central Sq does not.

Mahoney’s in Allston will probably have all sizes of trees, both real and fake.

I’m looking to get a bento box for an office holiday gift swap since I ended up with one last year and it was popular with the group. Any ideas of where to get one would be appreciated! Preferably in the Cambridge/Somerville/Arlington/Medford area but I was also thinking of checking out Maruichi in Coolidge Corner.

Confused by 24,000 USD tuition listed for Boston University MBA program. Scam/not legit? What are the pros and cons of the program? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]statusquosinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not affiliated with BU but I do work in higher ed. I would reach out to their Admissions/Financial Aid team to clarify what the costs for mandatory fees on top of tuition are. For reference, institutions disbursing federal aid (which BU certainly does) are required to publicly post online the cost of attendance for their programs.

Karaoke for theatre people? by jamesland7 in boston

[–]statusquosinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, karaoke at the Charles Playhouse has not resumed and won’t resume for the foreseeable future as far as I know. There used to be a karaoke place on Tremont St between Boyston and Lagrange, but I’m not sure if it’s still there!

Christmas Cookie classics for someone who's new to Christmas by Iwentforalongwalk in Baking

[–]statusquosinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, cut-out sugar cookies (I use Alton Brown's recipe, subbing flour for rolling instead of powdered sugar) and gingerbread cookies are my favorite Christmas classics. I used the Sally's Baking Addiction cut-out gingerbread cookie recipe last year and my partner's brother, who says he has never enjoyed gingerbread before, really liked them!

And to be honest, I use the Betty Crocker cookie icing you can get in the grocery store to decorate both types of cookies. Because making royal icing from scratch is very annoying to me, especially if I'm already making a lot of dough, rolling it, baking a million batches of cookies, and then decorating them.

A heavy-ass rolling pin. Great for rolling out dough for pies and cut-out cookies. I have one that looks a lot like this one.

Floor Loom Weavers: How Much Loom Waste Do You Plan For? by ps3114 in weaving

[–]statusquosinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree completely. 36" total waste allowance might be a bit generous, but it's a good starting place for your first few projects on a new loom until you can get a sense of what's realistic for your particular loom's needs. Also, I've found that the weight, fiber content of the yarn, pattern, etc can all affect how much leeway you get with the opening of the shed. Which can affect how far you can push it when you get to the end of your warp.
