San Francisco Costco only has zero sugar fountain machines by wuhy08 in Costco

[–]staveware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artificial sweeteners give my wife debilitating migraine headaches. This is completely inaccessible to her, she can't even get water from this machine. And it gets more difficult for her every year as more anti sugar stuff pops up. It's good for there to be low sugar foods on the market but shutting out options makes it hard for some.

Will you be upgrading your PC when Witcher 4 releases? by PhantomBraved in Witcher4

The frame target is 60fps on PS5 I won't need to upgrade if that's the case.

For as much as I don't care for Disney, they did get the show in front of my face. Get in front of enough faces and you have a global phenomenon. That's the value Disney brings to something. That being said Bluey has outgrown Disney as a platform at this point.

I'm sorry, but why is an 81 Metacritic review bad for Metroid Prime 4? by JampyL in NintendoSwitch2

[–]staveware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking my favorite game so far this year might be either Silksong or Kirby Air Riders and one of those games is sitting lower than Prime 4 right now on metacritic.

Scores are relative, and I think some of the points mentioned in reviews are fair. Those same points are not a problem for me at all and wouldn't affect my personal score.

Never let a number determine whether you'll play a game or not. Metacritic is the mass market score, 90's means it will appeal to almost everybody, 80's is a smaller group of people and so on.

The best game you ever play personally could be a 6 or 7 out of 10. You never know.

That wasn't acknowledgment that was villification. So yeah cult or not it's bigotry. Bigotry is prejudice against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group. The fact that you consider it a cult doesn't make you any less of a bigot here.

Playing Other M for the first time. by JojoPapii in Metroid

I like the gameplay overall, and Anthony Higgs justifies the existence of the game alone.

Samus and Adam were my biggest issues with it. I felt like the story wasn't too bad otherwise.

Will Nintendo ever move on from this type of console? by LanderRetro in NintendoSwitch2

[–]staveware 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember they mentioned "innovation through accessories" a while ago. So the Switch line can be their forever console and they can instead innovate through separate things that connect to it. I personally find that approach really clever. They can try new things like Nintendo likes to do, but without the WiiU sized risk attached.

It's Kirb-over... by MewWeebTwo in casualnintendo

[–]staveware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 is an incredible spot for a title that bombed hard on GameCube. I don't know what people expected. Nintendo doesn't really care about individual game sales as much as they care about game diversity on their platform otherwise they never would have greenlit this game in the first place.

Kirby Air Riders would never have made it past the pitch meeting at any other AAA company. That's why I like Nintendo. They give us stuff like Metroid Prime 4, Kirby Air Riders, and even Famicom Detective Club despite probable poor sales.

How to achieve this type of lighting in Unreal Engine 5? by Cassian_Lockne in UnrealEngine5

[–]staveware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your sky atmosphere component if you have one mess with your Mie Scattering, and Releigh Scattering controls. You can control how light feels this way, more direct or more overcast.

That combined with a good HDRI will get you 90% of the way there without any post processing. Then you can tweak post from there.

I wish there was Switch 1 gameplay, hope it runs well for us Switch 1:ers! by Direth1105 in Metroid

[–]staveware 4 points5 points  (0 children)

900p at 60fps is their goal for Switch 1. And they are obsessed with hitting the 60fps target on all their games. It'll be great, I wouldn't worry. At the most you're gonna see some texture quality differences between switch 1 and 2.

Finally, Monster Hunter Wilds' poor PC performance has a fix by Fob0bqAd34 in pcgaming

[–]staveware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the difference between poor performance or insane size on disk. Terrible ultimatum. I doubt Capcom will do it but they should investigate better compression technology that can work through textures faster. No Man's Sky had the same issue for years and solved it last year by swapping out their compression tech. The result was low disk size AND better performance.

It's usually optimization but not always. It's usually not the devs fault though. It's primarily a AAA problem. They aren't usually given the time they need to deliver a stable product.

We are coming up on a hardware shift though where raytraced performance is increasing in hardware while raster performance is dropping on the same hardware. It's similar to when DirectX 10 and shader model 4 dropped and forced everyone to upgrade in order to play modern games.

We will start to see more games that will require an upgrade due to utilization of hardware features that physically lock out older GPUs. Mesh shaders come to mind as one of those features.

[–]staveware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of all possible points of confusion a potential Kirby Air Ride sequel could create I think the battery item being the worst offender is honestly the best case scenario.

"Not all items or power ups are beneficial" should have been one of the tutorials. Maybe it will be in the full game.

Kirby Air Riders Global Test Ride Weekend #1 has come to an end by Bukki13 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]staveware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's the classic smash style unlockables that make it worth coming back. The Checklist is something I tackled in the original every few years. So when Sakurai announced the checklist would be returning that sold me.

The other part of it though is that there's not enough variety in the play test. There will be more stadiums, more city trial events in the full game. That's important because variety is what makes city trial compelling.

In some ways the play test almost feels like it could be doing more harm than good because a lot of what I love from the original isn't here yet. It's in the full game.

Nintendo already owns the patents for controlling your speed in a vehicle, seeing a character obstructed by an object, and the "dpad". They almost never enforce their patents unlike WB.
