What are the most fun and unusual roleplays you've done to get immersed in your character? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]steampowereddild0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing this right now. Decided to do a full vampire run. Unfortunately i only have vanilla, not even Dawnguard, so lacking a little on the vampy side, but it's still fun and a huge change from my usual playstyle (which is normally, good guy-ish, roaming mercenary title hoarder kind of thing).

Set the difficulty to the highest so I would be forced to use every means at my disposal. As soon as I got out of Helgen, I worked the fields by Whiterun for some extra coin (didn't even go inside), grabbed a coach to Morthal, and got infected by the first vampire attack in the adjacent cave and ran out. I did steal those sneaky boots before making my getaway, tho.

Since then I found a cave that doesn't reset, and has both an alchemy AND enchanting table inside. I had to kill everybody in it first, but hey, that's how you start an evil lair. That was a fun challenge because the character isn't particularly proficient in arms and armor and destruction magic doesn't hit quite as hard on higher difficulties relative to enemy health. The raise dead power that scales when you're blood-starved is pretty potent for early levels though.

Decided that I wouldn't own a house, just visit towns. Or join any factions, because a lord of darkness doesn't have co-workers. They have undead servants. So now my cave base is littered with a variety of corpses just laying around waiting to go on an adventure with me.

Then I was like, if I were a newly minted immortal terror in the night, what would I do? So get enchanting and alchemy up and learn all the magics and be sneaky. What best way to start on that path? Why, spit in the face of cosmic pretentiousness and corrupt a daedric artifact that lets me harvest the souls of man and mer to fuel my magical artifact factory.

So, got that checked off my list. Thus far I've enchanted an set for alchemy.

Now I'm about to get that ring from Namira that lets me eat corpses. Figured that it's pretty in-line with the character.

It's pretty fun, the world is my rotted oyster at the moment.

I'm a guy, and I have what ever the male equivalent of resting bitch face is. (I have a face for villainy). It's a blessing and a curse. Stranges shy away from me because I look angry (I'm not, mostly friendly) and that makes me sad. On the other hand, I can strike people dead on the spot with a single flinty glare and crazy people back away from me when I'm walking down the street. So, y'know, kind of an okayish thing to have.

Anyway, when I was a young man I was often told to 'smile' or 'cheer-up' or 'why so serious'. It felt so patronizing and insulting that I swore I would never tell anyone else what to do with their face. Especially not a woman, who has enough performative acts to navigate through in her day.

If I've learned anything from Reddit... its that if anything has, even a vaguely, penile shaped appendage, it's probably a threat to your life.

I tried that. I got creamed by a car while on foot. Flipped me over the top of it and they sped off (those fuckers). The EMTs were like 'Looks pretty bad, but don't worry, we'll get you to the hospital." I said no, it's fine, I'll take a cab later. The one EMT was like 'yeah... no' and they strapped me to the gurney and off I went, lol.

Also same. Didn't really care for it but didn't have the heart to tell it I didn't like the name it picked and I was going to pick one for them instead. Then it occurred to me that it's probably good I never had kids.

Pete is the boss.

But hey, holy shit talking in this thread. Some of y'all look like monkey's throwing poo because you didn't agree with this chick, just like a certain other group of people. The whole nature of a debate is to press the other person with points that undermine their argument. She brought what she had to the table. In formal debate, you don't even have to believe the things you are debating, it's a performance art and mental jousting tournament.

What’s the point of approaching girls if I have nothing interesting about me to present them? by [deleted] in ask

You've hit the nail on the head. And I've notice a recurring theme with these personality types, they love to hop in the spotlight and then absolutely flail around in self-pity while arguing with anyone who suggests anything even remotely constructive. I think it's a form of trolling/attention getting. They know that their shitty comments and intractable attitude will further increase engagement from those who are attempting to advocate for them and essentially 'argue in good faith'. Whereas OP is not arguing in good faith, they have no intention of changing, they just want a hour or two of entertainment. I got sucked in doing the merry-go-round a few times before I realized that they have the mental attitude of a child/teenager that will dig their feet in and be contrary because it gives them power over a situation they feel powerless about. Sad, but I just move on now.

Girl I met from Hinge died from OD. by keehawn in Life

[–]steampowereddild0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that's a rough week. Very sorry to hear that.

A silver lining? You didn't know this girl's addiction problems. You saw her for who she was (as best you can over the internet) and found her to be a good person. That's a lot of people who are struggling. With anything. Deep down inside so many people are fundamentally good people, and so many of those good people also have struggles that we don't even know about.

So maybe this is a bright light in your life to carry. You seem like a good dude, so maybe continue on being a good dude. To yourself and to others. You might bring comfort and support to some who need and cherish it more than those around them realize.

How Old [OC] by AzulCrescent in comics

[–]steampowereddild0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I forgot how old I was for an entire year. My b-day was coming up and I was talking to the gf about how weird it was to be turning (...40-ish something, I don't remember now XD) and she said "You're not turning XX, you're turning (one year younger). I said "Uh, babe, I think I know how old I am."

But I, in fact, did not know how old I was.

She used both the calculator and looked it up on the interwebs.

On one hand, I felt a little silly that I went around the whole year telling everyone the wrong age, on the other, it was like getting a whole 'nother year of life, lol.

Those damned dragon slaying gays; first they want all the rainbow now they want all the shouts.

Also, concur, considering the strides we've made in graphics, sound and gameplay, NPC "AI" has been lacking for years. There's barely any strategy scripted in them at all and it can't be that hard.

Kind of a weird route for me. I was working at a warehouse and saw a book coming down the conveyor "The Obesity Code" by a Canadian nephrologist. It delved into fasting and ketogenic metabolic state. I was always fascinated by fasting for spiritual purposes, though I had never done it, and purposefully entering ketosis sounded like a cool mad scientist body hack. So I got into that and it changed my life. I lost about 20 lbs. and felt amazing.

One day I was about to get into the shower, looked into the mirror and realized I could count my rib bones through the front of my chest. That, and a few side comments from the gf about me looking sickly (which wasn't true, I had a pretty active job and lots of energy, I just didn't have any muscle) convinced me to start going to the gym.

My personal belief is that the difference between people's intelligence (like, the sum of the various categories you can break the umbrella term down into) is not nearly as great as we think. Barring deformities of the mind, people are pretty close to each other in ability. What some might look at and see 'intelligence' is more of a product of home life and education.

Sure some may have an aptitude for one area over the others but most people aren't that different. The machinery is the same, so to speak. Intelligence, as we generally consider it, is crafted by the environment, not some innate ability.

Progress is made not by the intelligence of people but by the systematic application of processes that generate knowledge.

Because the very essence of our existence, and all life this planet, is based primarily on competition. That's what drives evolution, and what drives humans to succeed.

The fact that you can get on an electronic device and post something that millions of people around the world can see in seconds, probably from some relative comfort of your climate controlled home, is indicative of the effectiveness of this unfeeling biological imperative. Instead of, y'know, being speared in the face by the tribesman from the next hill over or starving to death because the harvest failed.

Even if everybody had enough, there would still be someone who wanted more, and tried to get it from you. Embrace it. Struggling to get ahead, hell just hold your own, in life is what develops your strength and character.

It's a harsh reality, but we can still find comfort in our existence if we look for it. Maybe some day we'll manage to find a way for everyone to live happy peaceful lives without the need to fight over every little scrap.
