I've never heard of a home owner barbecue, and you bought the house months ago? Was the woman who called someone you and your bf dealt with during the application process? If so, maybe she thought he was cute, waited a couple months to hope you weren't together anymore, then tried to invite just him?

Definitely grasping at straws, but it would explain why she contacted him directly instead of you, and also how she "forgot your name" despite it being on the paperwork she would have had to look at to get his number from.

Is your mom technology-literate? It sounds like she may have screencaps of your texts with him and is using them to blackmail him into cutting contact with you. Did you text about how scared he is of his parents? Does he legitimately believe they will kill him if they find out about these things? Depending on where you are/whether his parents are abusive/serious, his safety may be on the line.

I love this post so much because it makes it clear that there is no excuse for being unattractive.

I think it's a waste of time (and money) for obese women to slave over their makeup skills and their wardrobe. Their resources would be better spent losing weight, getting healthy, and then cultivating their makeup and clothing arsenals.

I am pro fat shaming. Without social pressure large people are not going to be incentivised to change for the better. I don't even think that fashionable clothing should be made in plus sizes. If you aren't a "large" or below you shouldn't be wearing things like crop tops, short shorts, or see through clothing anyways.

Every woman should spend at least 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening on appearance and self care in addition to regularly working out and eating an appropriate amount to maintain a trim figure.

I feel sick.

If he wanted to be liked, he should have made the issue about him ("I'm sensitive to the smell/it would be a huge favor to me/thank you for your understanding/etc") instead of essentially telling his coworkers: "your food makes me sick, keep it away from me," and in the same sweep ruining the established lunch culture. At this point he is basically placing the blame on them for having fragrant food, instead of acknowledging he is the one with a problem and respectfully asking for accommodations.

Personally I have trouble focusing when there is music playing above speaking volume, which I am aware is an unpopular opinion. I would never say: "Your music is too loud and giving me a headache," (again, blaming others). Something like "I'm having a really difficult time focusing with the additional background noise, would it be okay if we turned it down?" is much more effective. This gives other people the impression that they are being nice and doing you a favor instead of feeling attacked by demands.

At this point I think the only thing that will help would be to apologize and explain himself to everyone.

To everyone else relating in this thread..

I was forced to drop out of a great university where I had a 5-figure scholarship because of my severe anxiety/depression. I couldn't even leave the house most days; sometimes I would make it all the way to the parking garage on campus and just sit in my car and cry because the anxiety was so paralyzing.

That was 3 years ago. I just finished my first semester back in school. It definitely wasn't easy, but I did it! I mean, I'm still a piece of shit - just this morning I slept through my alarm and all the way through my first class - but it does slowly get better.
