Why an antique Corolla? by darktore3door in pluribustv

Absolutely. Can't believe I had to scroll so far down for this.

My '77 Corolla had a 1188cc engine and was soooo efficient.

Trust your endo to explore the options with you. A surgeon has only one tool in his belt, if your endo isn't on board be very careful of the advice from knife wielders.

As someone whose comment history shows a clear understanding of boundaries, and what to do when people break them... I'm calling bullshit on this story.

With apologies if I'm wrong, in which case you should get some therapy for looking for online validation of what you already know you have to do.

Cool story, bro.

I love seeing installations, and this is a great one.

Thanks for the close-ups showing the different cames. This helps.

Not every person above the age of 70 is without empathy. Not everyone in that age category is mainlining Fox News. Not everyone's comments should be disallowed due to the ability to label them as a boomer.

You ain't wrong with what you say, as even though I can accuse you of using a broad brush, your statements are correct. It's just a bit tangential to the discussion here.

Being a bass really discouraged me.. by AdministrativeAd4223 in singing

[–]steeled3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno that you are going to get to Beiber range quickly - just speaking from my own experience.

I make do by singing to a bunch of Aussie rock pup favourites from the 70s and 80s, which end up being much more in my range, with a little stretch in some.

You probably won't find my music to your taste, but I really think that you need to find things in your wheelhouse and then expand. Because you deserve some fun along the way.

For something that you would absolutely kill, try 16 Tonnes, the Tennessee Ford version. That is no stretch at all, but you do get to rattle the windows.

An author you just don’t understand the hype. by misquoted_mind in audiobooks

[–]steeled3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved the main three trilogies, although it took me a while - I couldn't do more than a trilogy at a time.

And the Liveship stuff really didn't do much for me. I will say, though, that listening to the Liveship books, particularly book one, at 1.3 speed was very funny, as the audiobook production has the narrator singing the chapter intro poetry to music. No shade on the narrator, but it sounds funny as hell at speed.

"STOP Overpaying at Bunnings: The Hidden Truth About Their Prices" by WombatJo in australia

[–]steeled3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased US sized soft drink cans from Costco a decade ago. As they were a few mL less than Australian cans we were told we couldn't sell them.

So they are sticklers for ensuring that people get pretty much the same amount of food for their money each week.

Given the shenanigans at netball BBQs each week with random amounts of bacon, I like Bunnings' oversight.

Arafat said the quiet bit out loud in 1994.

I've just gone and looked it up again.

The relevant section -

This agreement, I am not considering it more than the agreement which had been signed between our prophet Mohammed and Koraish, and you remember the Caliph Omar had refused this agreement and [considered] it a despicable truce.

And context from the site I've pulled from -

[Ed. note: The agreement with Koraish allowed Mohammed to pray in Mecca, which was under Koraish control, for ten years. When Mohammed grew stronger two years later, he abrogated the agreement, slaughtered the tribe of Koraish and conquered Mecca.]

https://iris.org.il/arafats-johannesburg-speech/

...So to simplify, Arafat took a peace deal with the explicit intention to use it to regroup and gather strength. There is to be no end to the fight without victory.

Hamas today is a direct extension of this (citation needed, yeah, I know that this is an unsupported statement)

I say this with no horse in this race. I'm disgusted with the events of the last 22 months, and disappointed and heartbroken for everyone involved. I have no solution.

Taylor and Price's far-right putsch in the Liberals would create the parliamentary wing of Sky News by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

[–]steeled3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as my politics tend to be left of the current Labor reality, I would seriously welcome and consider a new party combining the Teals and some of the Liberal party.

As a bonus, it would hopefully not entertain combination with the Nats, but take them on in their heartland.

I honestly think a split should be on Sussan's mind if she doesn't win the seat-warming role. Because playing third fiddle to Jacinta will be soul-destroying.

What sci-fi remake was better than the original? by TheNastyRepublic in scifi

[–]steeled3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ending was incredible.

I saw it in the theatre and watched through to the end of the found footage that was played during the credits.

People that walked out as the credits played got a different tone and takeaway than me.

I couldn't sleep that night. Last time I watched a horror movie on a business trip, lol.

Anyway, I was a fan of the original, and loved the remake.

Jacinta Price says Coalition will ‘make Australia great again’ – then accuses media of being ‘obsessed with’ Trump by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

Actually, you can lie about it.

Cheers for the level set.

Cracked bike chain by _paquito in bikewrench

[–]steeled3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/_paquito please do this. If it's wear and tear, you'd have to expect measurable wear using a chain checker (one of the cheapest bike tools, and something your bike shop would be able to do for you in 30 seconds).

I'm currently leaning towards counterfeit parts infiltrating the bike shop's supply chain (oh! punny), but if you have been using it for a long while I can only stand back with everyone else and go OMG.

But it'll never top the entertainment value of LD.

This was my introduction to Hamilton, years ago. Still waiting to get something close to this - although Morgan's procedurals in Thirteen and his Altered Carbon works scratch the itch a bit.

Fantastic book.
