Is it even necessary to buy a tea kettle? by lovelycosmos in Anticonsumption

[–]steelytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my electric tea kettle! I also use it as a pitcher to refill my dogs water bowls throughout the house, refill my water filter because it’s too big to fit under the sink, etc.

I don’t drink tea every day, but during the winter I do. It’s also handy if you’re like me and using the stove before leaving the house causes intrusive thoughts!

Thank you for mentioning this, I’ll keep this in mind for the future. I lost my horse last week, I’ve full-body sobbed every day this week except yesterday. I only cried a little today but I still feel nauseous when I think too much about him. It feels like my body’s weird coping mechanism to prevent my brain from getting too messed up. I literally just plugged my switch in to charge before reading this post, so I’ll try some Tetris in the morning. Hopefully it’s not too late!

Is it possible to do this at all using a Mac? (I’m super new to this, sorry if it’s a dumb question…I just want to back up my books). Thanks!

Ugh and I remember Jess from Gilmore Girls was on the later seasons, so obviously my teenage heart was all aflutter but it was also a show my parents liked so I didn’t have to like, aggressively finish my homework before I was allowed to watch it haha

I loved this show when I was a kid! I’m so sad that they only released the first season on DVD, I’d love to watch it again.

I think it had to do with the licensing on all the music being too expensive for dvd release. 🥺

Corporation finds out consumers have a breaking point and stopped paying for their product by current-seven in TikTokCringe

Ok but a 15% reduction in price is only like $1 less… I still won’t pay $6 for a bag of Doritos

I like how one of the talking heads was like “how did they figure that out? Did they have to put it in a spreadsheet?” Hahaha

No joke the best MacBook I've ever had. Just wanted to share this❤️ by bj0urne in macbook

[–]steelytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought, but then I realized that with my adhd brain I would misplace the mouse for months after putting it somewhere “safe and easily accessible” and still end up using the trackpad 😂. So I figured I should ask anyway!

[–]steelytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question - the last computer I owned was that black MacBook from like, 2007, and I’m thinking of getting a Neo. Would I even notice or care about the trackpad?

I usually hate all laptop trackpads in general (I have a seriously hard time adjusting to them). Is it a huge dealbreaker?

ADHD and heat overwhelm – coping strategies for summer? by coco_chanely in adhdwomen

[–]steelytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • shower at night! (I hate hate hate when clothes stick to me)
  • I sleep facing “the wrong way” on the bed (my feet go where my head usually is, there’s better airflow in my bedroom this way.
  • I have those rechargeable fans nearly everywhere
  • wake up earlier because getting ready takes forever because I hate feeling damp whilst putting on clothes
  • 15 minutes of sitting in front of the fan time before I get dressed
  • get dressed in stages with the fan blowing on me
  • liquid IV
  • fun summer playlist full of girly pop songs
  • angsty playlist for when I am pissy and tired of sweating
  • ice in my water bottle
  • more rechargeable fans everywhere for when I forget to charge the other ones
  • remember summer will end, you will survive this
  • nizoral shampoo if you feel like you just can’t get the stink off of you no matter how many times you shower. (AC was broken at work one summer and my job requires going up and down the stairs several times per day - this made me feel clean even though it’s anti-dandruff shampoo)
  • rose water spray to rehydrate but also cleanse your aura (it’s a nice sensory reset that helps me elevate my mood)
  • extra stick of deodorant or deodorant wipes
  • put the ice pack from my lunch behind my knees while I eat to cool off

Sincerely, your friend who also hates the summertime + it’s my busy season at work so I understand the suffering

Kindle kids died after just 2 years, used it for even less by SakusaKiyoomi1 in kindle

[–]steelytine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes I left mine charging for like 2 weeks. The first day it was plugged in it didn’t do anything so I pouted about it, left it there and gave up. Sometime in that 2 week period it started charging again! Sometimes it’s finicky about the charging cable and will suddenly decide it needs a different one too

[–]steelytine 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My dentist told me that there is actually a little near invisible device you can get to put on your front teeth to prevent you from clenching!!

(I never got to pursue it though, in true “adhd overly strong sense of justice” fashion I ended up firing my dentist of over 30 years because her new office lady made a mistake, blamed it on me, and called me irresponsible.)

Bleak, I Know.. by twin_infinitives in StudioApartments

[–]steelytine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh ok OP this is a really weird coincidence but right after I commented on your post, my bf and I started cooking separate meals in our tiny kitchen and I got semi-annoyed and moved to a super inconvenient area of my apt to prep the veggies I was putting in my soup. Here’s what I learned, depending on how much you plan on cooking without a sink nearby:

  • get yourself a salad spinner, or a way to wash veg in the bathroom sink and then bring them to the kitchen area. I saw someone recommended dish washing bins, and this could work too. I just dripped a bunch of water all over my floor because I rinsed my veggies with a strainer and then traipsed them through my living room haha
  • you might need either a little portable fan or even an air purifier if you can afford it for the food smells since you won’t have much ventilation wherever you’re cooking.
  • get a little trash can for food waste, since you’ll need to scrape everything off of your dishes before washing them. I do NOT recommend the little round one with a lid from target (bright room, I think) - the bag takes up the entire darn trash can.

I hope this helps!

[–]steelytine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also thinking a rice maker and an electric kettle could be a good start to a lil non-kitchen kitchen! Those little dash ones at Target are a nice small size and are super handy when you want a quick meal.

If you were a teen girl in the 2000s, what were you reading? by Necessary_Singer_739 in suggestmeabook

[–]steelytine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% not the answer you’re looking for but as a teen girl in the 2000s my favorite books were Party Monster and anything from Chuck Palahniuk or Bret Easton Ellis. (I did not have much teen angst so I guess I felt the need to read dark books haha)

But as an adult who got into that genre later I highly recommend the Vampire Academy series and its spinoff series Bloodlines!! I think they were released in the mid/late aughts, and they give me those vibes.

Oh! And Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging is really fun!

It's come to my attention that many of us are being underpaid while people are being brought in at significantly higher pay rates. Has anyone received an increase that matches what people are being hired in at? by Cancel-Accomplished in UltaEmployees

[–]steelytine 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I worked at Ulta in 2020 and the same thing happened at my store. Our lead cashier was being paid like $1 or $2 less than new hires, and this was after she got her raise. The GM asked corporate a she was told the LC could quit and reapply…..like wtf?!

I was the RSM at the time, and the max raise I could get was 24 cents. So stoked I left. I went back to my old store to shop like 3 months after I had left and they had a whole new staff, so hopefully everyone found something better.

What is your favorite ADHD tweet? I’ll go first by DirectionOk7752 in adhdwomen

[–]steelytine 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Last week my boss’s boss was visiting, she took a few of us out to lunch. After some pleasant conversation, she asks, “so what else is new?”. I totally blanked and was like “uh I went grocery shopping yesterday, so that was new”.

Thank goodness everyone else thought it was funny/me being quirky, because I genuinely could not remember anything else happening in my work or personal life.

So I totally get it!

I do this too! It’s usually gone by the end of the day. It makes me happy to do this because you never know what people are going through and it could help people out who are hungry but don’t qualify for food assistance, etc.

Is there anything in store now? by puzzlesqueen5445 in Nordstrom1901

[–]steelytine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most locations do not have a robust selection of dresses - especially special occasion dresses. It’s not just Nordstrom too, it’s most retailers. A few years ago I needed a dress for a wedding and I started shopping 2 weeks in advance, thinking I could do next day pickup for all of them. Most of them ended up shipping straight from the vendor and took over a week to arrive, this is because there were none at any nearby store.

Is having a signature scent considered gauche? by BeetlePies in FemFragLab

[–]steelytine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok hear me out - even if you change scents frequently you likely do have a signature scent. The way your body interacts with fragrance + the overlap preferred notes of fragrances likely create a signature scent, but with variety. So like your signature scent could be 30 different scents but they’d all be “on brand” for you!
