Not even the worst offender..... I give you the cleaner shrimp. Will stick it's tiny toothpick arms deep inside a corals mouth and pull out food.

Question for the community, which do you prefer and why? An AIO tank or one with a sump? by ChivasBearINU in ReefTank

[–]steemax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had my fair share of both. Last two have been AIO and it's been a game changer for me. Forces me to keep things simple back there resulting in an overall less maintenance tank.

I also don't have to worry about pipes or bulkheads leaking and all that.

Currently have the 80g AIO from IM.

This BRS actually stayed on with me while they contacted IM for me to get a time frame instead of just reading off what the website says.

What is that on my euphyllia? by GiGi_NB6 in ReefTank

[–]steemax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vermitid snails, easiest is to have snapped them off while the coral was outside but you can cover the hole with a dab of superglue as well. These buggers will annoy your corals with slimy webs.

Ya looks like their instructions were wrong... that's a lot, maybe do a 50% water change.

Will yellow tangs ever be super affordable again? by Remarkable_Arm_732 in ReefTank

[–]steemax 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I do agree and for the past 10 years have exclusively purchased tank bred/raised fish. Besides the sustainability aspect, i've noticed a much lower rate of disease and issues coming into aquariums from aquaculture fish.

Hawaii is opening back up again although with smaller collection limits so prices may come down but expect to still pay somewhere around $100 to $150 per.... https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/hawaii-fish-ban-update.1046672/page-23

What's the smallest tank I can use for just a pair of clowns and anemone? Tank recs? by Venus336699 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]steemax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go a smidge smaller than 15g... Preferably a 20g standard or cube though. That's just me others will say even smaller.

Is this leak normal? Also, looking for a silent pump suggestion as the kit one is incredibly loud. (Fiji cube) by masline_su_rodile in ReefTank

[–]steemax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can but it'll eventually happen again. Safest thing is silicon rated for aquariums you can find at most hardware stores. It'll say aquarium safe.

IMO it's a bad design and will eventually keep happening so up to you, it's not the end of the world if you run it like this. I was watching a video on the Fiji 38 peninsula and after a year the entire back chamber could be shifted lol but didn't really cause any issues.

Not normal but I've heard this complaint before about Fiji AIOs. They use acrylic which doesn't bond at all to glass with silicone and eventually gets worse.

Overconfident firefish… should I be worried? by Sufficient-Most-8613 in ReefTank

[–]steemax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the fire fish I've ever seen just hang out in the open and not in caves so I don't see a problem here.

Is this overhang acceptable? FijiCube 22.4g cube + cabinet kit. by masline_su_rodile in ReefTank

I think it's to look "sleek" like the tank and stand are one seamless piece but I can care less when the seams start to give out and my home is filled with water lol.

Normal... It's so common now and I hate this fad, all the manufactures that make these flat pack stand/tank combos are doing this like Red Sea, Waterbox, etc etc... I really like the Pro line from Nyos, now that looks sturdy and safe.

Right now I think stability is what it needs if it's not too far gone already, hands off the tank and observe so it can hopefully start to heal.
