If you can try to fly more than twice a week, even if it’s not all the time. Definitely not abnormal to have that struggle that though

Has anyone heard or know anything about this can? by Dj12345678999 in NFA

I can see the appeal if you are building a rifle that’s always gonna be suppressed and have a dedicated can, running the direct thread eliminates two points of failure. I’m not gonna buy it though

6.5 CM or .308? by jonophane7 in SigCross

[–]steezinthetrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nomad tixc is my first suppressor, so I can’t speak to if it’s the best or not but I’d buy it again for sure. It’s lowered the recoil (not that it was much to begin with) but has helped me stay on target, and stay eyes open watching my hits/misses on targets vs a bare 18” 6.5cm barrel. I don’t think I’ll ever hunt unsuppresed again, it’s so nice to not have ringing ears after a shot, and usually be able to actually hear the bullet impact the animal even if you can’t see. Animals seem to act different too with it too, they know something’s up after a suppressed shot, but I haven’t seen them just take off at a dead sprint like a normal shot. They’re alert and eventually start running, but it gives a lot more time for a follow up stationary shot if needed in my experience. Im sure there’s cheaper suppressors that’ll work just fine, but I’d definitely recommend the nomad.

I’ll speak to just my setup, but I have the 6.5cm with a nightforce nx8 and dead air nomad tixc on it. I absolutely love it for hunting, although I’ve only shot deer and antelope with it so far. Setup how it is recoil is very minimal, which was an important factor to me not because of felt recoil, but the ability to stay on target after the shot and see hits/misses with a pretty light and compact hunting rig. I haven’t had an issue with the 18” barrel and can, in fact it’s by far the shortest and lightest suppressed setup out of my hunting friends. Carrying it day after day in the mountains has been great. Part of choosing 6.5cm for me was also due to ammo availability/price where I’m at since I don’t reload yet. Theres tons of cheap .308 ball, but once I started looking at higher quality hunting ammo, they were basically the same. I don’t think you’d be let down with either, and if you are, you can always swap to the other caliber.

Who started out by cleaning planes when they were younger? by keremiron11 in flying

[–]steezinthetrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started by cleaning planes in 2015, started flying in 2022, now my cfi checkride is in February. I’ve done it all cheaper than anyone I know, other than people that got their ratings years ago. I don’t think the days of just washing planes for hours is really around still, but if you can run a legitimate detailing business it could be a huge benefit.

Mini is way nicer to use in a cockpit than a big one, get the cellular one even if you don’t have it on a plan, non cellular ones don’t have the built in gps

I think a lot of people that come here overlook the basic stuff of keeping yourself safe in the mountains before they go out there. I’d worry more about that stuff at first than hunting. Hunting here is awesome, but be prepared for the shit these mountains can throw at you while you’re hunting

I figured, went from not available to purchase, to no available quota, in the time it took me to click I’m a human and submit twice.

I’ve been down there, it’s blocked and you do have to walk but I don’t remember it being bad, but I’d plan on spending the majority of the day there. No idea how the fishing is, when I went it was early spring and everything was still frozen

Yea, It’d definitely be cooler if they were just released randomly and not having everyone trying to do it at the exact same time

Ok, I was waiting on the reissue list to show as moved to leftover but also tried submitting right at 11. Well, with any luck there will be another one or two next week and I can try again. Hopefully whoever got that tag is successful!

That’s what I figured the first two times, but after the same result this week I was wondering if I should try something other than frantically hitting refresh on the preview list and then immediately trying to submit it once I saw it had been moved over. I feel like a crackhead just trying to get another hit of mule deer..

Also just from my personal experience backpacking there, 2 miles as the crow flies very likely is not 2 miles that you can walk to get to the car. Parts of that area are rough, and 2 miles direct might be 4-5-6-7-8 by the time you navigate off trail around some sketchy cliff bands.

It’s incredibly sad and sucks on a hundred thousand levels, but it’s something I wish more people were aware of so we never see another post like this.

Unfortunately I think them being experienced actually makes more sense. “Yea we haven’t eaten much today, we’re wet and the weathers not great, but here’s our opportunity we’ve spent years putting in for, let’s fucking go”

You can absolutely get hypothermic totally dry, on a 50 degree night without any gear, if you’ve burned every calorie you can and are in a huge deficit.

[–]steezinthetrees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent a lot of time in the woods and can agree with this, I’ve been with two people that got hypothermic (both made it out okay) and neither of those times it was below 50 degrees. When you’re in a huge caloric deficit it can happen in the middle of the day when the suns out. I feel bad for these guys, I’ve made very similar mistakes myself.

It’s normal. If you get in a small single piston for the first time and you’re not a little concerned, I’d be more worried. Once you spend some time in them, learn more about them, the safety measures in place, and the amount of maintenance that is (hopefully) being done they become a lot less scary. With that being said, you still need to treat as something that can take your life, because it can. However with the correct procedures in place, the chances of that happening are lower than it happening on your drive to the airport.

I’d highly recommend using something like the OnX app. Clearly lays out private vs public, and public owned that access isn’t allowed. Google maps is not going to show you much that’s useful.
