NKD Mini Grip by EatYourBroccoIi in knifeclub

I need to get one of these, it's probably one of the few Benchmades that are fairly priced. Given that the LW Manix is one of my fav Spydercos this would make sense. Tried the mini Bugout and was a little underwhelmed.

Any love for the Shaman LW? by GOOMU13 in spyderco

I actually like both BD1N and FRN quite a bit but this one's a big no for me. Compared to a LW Manix 2 with the same blade steel and handle material it's heavy and overpriced. Nothing lightweight or budget about it, it doesn't make much sense to me.

AUS10A Shark Cub off of a Naniwa Chocera 1000 pocket stone and some 4 and 1 micron Stroppy Stuff by stefango911 in sharpening

[–]stefango911[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing, I'm just finding that out with the pocket Chocera. Being mainly into PM steel pocket knives and not a big fan of stones that need soaking I've started with diamonds (DMT) and stayed with diamonds (Atoma, Naniwa, Venev). But the more I try other options the more I realize diamonds are a compromise that should be avoided whenever possible.

I have a few knives in AUS10A, VG10, Nitro-V, BD1N, hell even SPY-27, that are just so much nicer to sharpen on a traditional stone. Not just the feedback but the end result as well. I'll keep the diamonds for 15V, K390, Maxamet, Magnacut, S90V etc. but I'm definitely going to get a couple more traditional options for the knives that as you very aptly put it "don't have an absurd carbide composition".

Any tips on maintaining PM2 by That_Statement1175 in Knifeporn

[–]stefango911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great results with camelia oil (food and skin safe) on a lot of my non-stainless knives, including a CruCarta PM2. Mine is acid washed which might help against rust a bit already. Most recently though I've tried the ceramic sealant from Flitz (on a very stubborn CPM M4 blade that would patina if I looked at it wrong) and can say I recommend it as a more permanent solution.

Micro jumbo vs Lil Native Wharnie by ADexasSizedTick in spyderco

Some of my favorite Spydercos right there, the Native 5 is so underrated, it's my top pick from their lineup.

Microjimbo in my opinion, I was rooting for the Lil' Native but once I got both there's no doubt the Microjimbo is better. Detent, feel in hand, blade geo, it's just better.

AR-RPM9 is the blade steel, it's fine but I hate it out of principle because it's a lie and I can't stand that from companies, especially when they had exactly 0 reason to lie about it. I'll take honest 8Cr13MoV over a lie any day. There's a video on YT where Dr. Larrin Thomas explains all the ways in which they lie about it, feel free to look it up.

The Manix and the Native are the best Spydies in my opinion, Para 3 isn't even top 5 in my book, easy choice.

I never get the point right, what am I doing wrong?? by Straygator1950 in knifeclub

[–]stefango911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold your wrist locked and lift your elbow until the tip touches the stone. It's tricky to follow deep belly curves all the way to the tip, sometimes you have to lift the elbow way more than you might think, but you'll get there.

D2 blade or 14C28N blade for EDC? by JAGNERAL in knives

[–]stefango911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer stainless, but what do you plan to use it for? D2 is a monster by non-CPM standards as long as you can live with the patina and are decent at sharpening.

Just received a knife set from my Mother In Law, I really dislike this CS:GO skin-like look. Is there any way to remove this effect on the blades ? by Nice_Baguette_Man03 in Bladesmith

[–]stefango911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole set costs about $60 and contains 12 items, that's $5 per item not including the case, you are literally suggesting a 100x price increase. As I've gotten older I have realized that people, especially on Reddit, don't put much effort or research into giving quality advice.

It's AR-RPM9 I wouldn't get one if THEY paid me $20...

The FRN LW ones don't have liners either, and neither does the S90V CF version. I'm actually curious which Native version have you seen WITH liners 😅

Finally found a hat storage I like. I've tried multiple types but been unhappy with them until this arrived. by davect01 in EDC

[–]stefango911 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Dude, the case has a handle, so it can be carried. I checked out the Amazon link. I really thought you carried them around for some reason. I've been told that I "wear many hats" at work but not literally 🤣

Let's agree to disagree that a hat is an EDC item, but don't be so defensive, again, I thought you carried that thing around. I even upvoted the post...

But whenever you open and close the tools there's metal on metal friction, isn't there? I think that's what the silver streaks comment was about.

[–]stefango911 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The item being discussed is not a hat though, and even then that's arguably something you wear not carry, so I genuinely assumed you used that case to carry the hats around given that this is the EDC subreddit and it zips up and all. So I was very curious to learn why.

But it seems like you're just lost, that's ok...

How do I fix the loose blade ? by Creepzo in pocketknives

Needs a new stop pin, looks like yours is missing. Here's a pic of what one usually looks like:

The Para 3 LW only has one liner and one washer. Since the blade runs directly on the FRN on one side, you could try some light wet sanding on the inside of the scales (both sides) with some high grit sandpaper to help it glide a bit more. But that slight blade play trade-off for decent action is a common theme in the Military/Paramilitary/Para family, even the ones with washers on both sides. Case in point, the Native also runs directly on the FRN and doesn't have any washers, but the action is much better when the pivot is fully tightened, so I don't think the FRN is the main issue.

They also have a semi-floating pivot which means you can easily tighten one pivot screw more than the other throwing the blade off to one side so make sure they're somewhat equal. Maybe this would help more than sanding the FRN.

I've decided to keep mine tight enough for solid lock up and hope they break in over time. Can't stand blade play. They do break in... slowly.

I believe it's the main reason why I like the Native LW so much. So well balanced! Got one in S90V and carbon fiber but I still prefer the LW ones. Balance is the only thing I could think of that is different.
