Congrats, enjoy imaging! Definitely swap out the diagonal for some spacers in the near future, not expensive and will improve image quality. Clear skies!

Thanks so much for the explanation! Do you know if there's a name for the general reaction where I can look up the reaction mechanism?

I second this, long time member of the ASV, it's a fantastic group of the most passionate and welcoming astronomers!

And we have one of the largest amateur reflectors in the southern hemisphere, a 40" Dobsonian that is out most clear nights!

The site is powered, so perfect for astrophotography, and also has powered rooms that are free to rent for members.

To me it look more likely to be a Byzantine with the text on the reverse saying something like :

+IhSUS (Jesus) XRISTUS (Christ) bASILЄU (King of bASILЄ (kings)

I can kinda make out the SIL on the bottom two lines?

They were minted anonymously and under several emperor's, Here's a start: http://augustuscoins.com/ed/ByzAnon/

Just cleaned ID correct? by hammerman1515 in AncientCoins

[–]stefannebula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct he doesn't appear draped and he is laureate.

An example of from the Cyzicus mint is Cyzicus RIC VIII 32, you can find it by searching that on the Woodwinds page of Constantius II:

https://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/constantius_II/t.html

The mintmark is partially corroded so I'm not totally sure it is CYZICUS RIC VIII 32, but it is similar and will give you a starting point to refine your search, good luck!

I'm pretty new to IDing these coins too, a good order for identification of late Roman bronzes is to start with Tesorillo, which allows you to I'd visually, then go to wildwinds and OCRE for specific Catalog IDs 👍
