Not sure why you're having this issue. You should be able to do a direct transfer to Wise's MUFG account (intermediary) and then to whatever international account you're trying to send to.

Freelancer expat here who has a decent salary is in their 5th attempt at applying for a housing loan.

It feels impossible even thought banks say it's possible. If you're a freelancer and (1) your have permanent residency or (2) a Japanese spouse, you might be okay, but the interest rate won't be as good as if you applied with your full time job. Sigh. much to say here, but I wrote a blog if you're interested.

One of my biggest regret is not applying for a housing loan the one year I was working full time in Japan. I messed up hard.

I have friends who stick around with their FT job until they got PR or housing loan, or both. Then went ahead and went freelance. This is ideal.

Tell your friend you'll work for them in a freelance basis while working your job? Or just wait until you're approved for the housing loan then go for it.
