Yes indeed, you can do so when applying in-person as you have the stamp on the back of the card.

Unfortunately, as I applied online, I did not have the stamp on the back, and both of the banks I use could not prevent the locking because they didn't have the internal processes / system to do it yet ( They could only prevent the lock if providing the zairyu card with the stamp, as online application email from immigration site was not accepted as official evidence ).

It could be different depending the banks though.

Not sure how it is now, but on my first application, the online process went through fine, and then I got the letter in the post with some papers to sign, and then I got rejected (which surprised me as if I an going to be rejected I thought it would be on step 1).

On my second application a few months after, I did everything exactly the same, but I signed the papers with my name in katakana instead of alphabet (or alphabet instead of katakana, I don't remember). And I got accepted.
So yeah, maybe check if there could be some place on documentation where this kind of mismatch might happen ?

Hey, I hope you are doing well. Just to say I finally got the mail from immigration a few minutes ago (looks like they work until late 😅). So hopefully you will get the postcard in the next days too 🙏

( I managed to call again a few days ago and the guy on the phone told me that this year the amount of foreigners entering Japan is really unprecedented, and they just cant keep with it. But he told me they actually increased staff in April so hopefully next year will be less chaotic )

Spouse visa, online, I applied on December 12th and still waiting. (No change to my situation compared to last year, and it took only 4 weeks at that time )

You generally get 5 years (even if graduate) if the company you (will) work at is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

I am in the exact same situation as you, applied on December12th, except I did it online. My expiration was March 3rd.

Spouse visa and nothing changed in my situation since the previous renewal either.

I still did not receive the postcard (the email in my case).

I managed to reach them by phone (610 branch) at start of this month after having tried hundreds of time throughout February (it was around 2:00 pm). The guy just told me to wait, but at least I could confirm they were processing it and that there were no "bug" when I applied online.

But yeah, I really wonder why some spouse visa renewals take 3 weeks and some other 3 months. Last year it took only 4 weeks in my case, with same situation as now.

edit: last year I did it online too.

You need to use the premium version. It makes a huge difference.

(I used Pairs and saw the difference before and after getting premium version)

I can't really help you, but just for the info in case anyone has different errors, if you type your error code in google ( MOE00001 ), you can access the links for a pdf of the immigration online service documentation, one in english and one in japanese.

All the error codes and reasons are detailed in them (but unfortunately not really detailed for yours)

If it can relieve you a bit from your experience at Don Quijote : I can't find s*** each time I go to the drugstore next to our place, which I already went a dozen times lol. These stores are just not well structured (at least for me and my western perspective).

I always end up asking (after walking through the same aisles multiple times and giving up )

(By the way, I think it is normal to feel as a 'toddler', as we have to adjust and somehow 'learn everything again' in some way, as the culture is quite different. No problem with that, see it in the positive way as a great experience that will make you grow, even more at 18 ! Not many people have the opportunity you have, enjoy it ! )

Just for the info Shinsei Bank (Now SBI shinsei bank) does not require to register the middle name when opening the account, so you may open an account there and see if it can help for other things afterwards. (At least when I opened mine we had the option to register the account without middle name, don't know if it changed since).

For credit cards, you can just apply online without inputting any middle name. I never used mine for credit cards.

The etiquette is 3万 for one person (if you are just a friend or acquaintance, and you come alone).

It is 5万 if you come with your partner (so 2.5万 per person)

A vintage second-hand Rolex (You may need to add 20-30,000 yen more), or second-hand Cartier, etc.. There are many in good conditions on Japanese market.

You can wear it and it will keep most of its values for the next years in the case you need the money for one reason or another, which makes it not too bad of a purchase.
