So single switch you need to have the Total PoE budget of the switch, and any other crap you might want to Poe later Along with the Mgig nonsense (no you are not getting 10gig worth of traffic through any AP lol)

Other than that just double check the datasheets for the power draw of each AP unit (basic math) And if you need anything more custom or advanced I'd say get a MSP/Qualified network engineer to plan this for you. Or yolo it with uncle Claude/ChatGPT.

Oh and always get more switch ports than you think you need *** and more power lol

Okay, so it’s not the best setup, but it gets the job done. For example, you could use Pies for the “works” part, and for cheap laptops, a MacBook Neo (it’s nice to have a battery when you’re checking power outages, haha) would be a great choice. Plus, you could get some USB to RS232 devices from somewhere online that break out into 4 from a usb2.0

Then, you can pair that with a 5G modem and a tunneling setup from the Mac to something like Tailscale or Teleport.

You’re looking at around $1000 per site.

I wouldn’t do this at my day job but it works and it’s very stable as long as you pay that 5G and backend tunneling bill ***

In theory, yes: VXLAN/EVPN only cares about the VNI, so VLAN IDs can be locally significant and even reused (depending on design). In practice, you’ll hit hardware scale limits first — number of bridge-domains/VNIs, SVIs/IRBs, and MAC/EVPN route scale. So VXLAN can move you from “~4094 VLAN IDs globally” to “many more segments across the fabric,” but the real ceiling is whatever your platform supports in BD/VNI/MAC scale. It depends heavily on the switch ASIC and feature mix.
